- "These Dreams" is a song by American rock band Heart from their 1985 self-titled eighth studio album Heart. It was released as a single in 1986 from their 1985 self-titled album.
It was the first song by the band to become a #1 hit on the Billboard Hot 100. The song also became Heart's first (and, to date, only) #1 song on the US Adult Contemporary chart and peaked at #62 on the UK Singles Chart; however, a re-issue released in 1988 (re-released due in large part to the smash success of "Alone" there) reached #8.
In 1985 Martin Page (who co-wrote several other pop hits, including "We Built This City" and "King of Wishful Thinking") and Bernie Taupin (longtime collaborator of Elton John) wrote the music and lyrics to the song now known as "These Dreams".
I cry every time I listen to this. It's such an intense song and takes everyone on their own journey. For me it triggers memories of those I've lost, lives lived, good times and loves that never were. Crazy Beautiful
I totally agreed with you!!! The 80s gave me the best memories I ever had sharing some good times and bad times with my neighborhood buddies. Each of us had scooters and all you need it was about $2.50 to fill the gas tank all ride all day long listening to Glam Metal. How I wish to find a magic lamp and go back to the 80s and lived those years again and get stuck forever in the 80s! BTW, Nancy was my favorite!
BEAUTIFUL SONG AND WONDERFUL TIMES 1986 THE BEST MUSIC FROM 80 THANKS GREAT MEMORIES
This song puts me in a really weird state of mind. I can’t describe it. It’s like I’m longing for some lost state or time in my existence.
So True
@Jon Love That’s funny how we both feel the same way.
Exactly the same. Weird, isn't it?
Saudade.
Same
One of my favorite song from Heart. Simply timeless classic.
The 80s was one of the best decades. Nothing compares to 80s. So many classic hits.
I just happen to agree with you Terrie if Doc's time machine weren't destroyed by that I'd go back to the 1980's right now!!😜❤🙌
The 70s were a Recovery of the 60s. There were a lot of good tunes in the 70s, but the 80s were Fantastic! 😊
The 80s were good but the 90s blew the doors open!
80’s will never die
Ummmm, yeah, the music was fantastic, but do you remember our awful fashion and hair? lol
Just learned tonight that the singer (Nancy Wilson) had a cold at recording time. Excellent performance under the circumstances.
I was born in the late fall of 1978. This Beautiful, Brilliant, Classic, Excellent, Fantastic Song These Dreams is one of my favorite songs of all time!
Thank you, Clay.
@RafaelVianajudoviana You're welcome.
This song makes you think that you can have good dreams, happy ones. They say this is a romantic song, but really it's a happy one.
“Searching for the time on a watch with no hands”
Classic line!!!
I search for the time on a watch without no hands
Absolutely Timeless!!!!
Makes me think of everyone that I know that has passed on. I love you very very much. Tears are streaming as I type.
Classic lyric,
"I walk without a cut, through a stained glass wall."
Praying for all of our lost freinds tonight... Yours too!
I FEEL YOUR PAIN NOEL
ITS ALRIGHT TODAY
I feel you sister I'm just coming out of a serious... Well to me anyway... 2 year relationship
I know how you feel 😞
Dreams is what we all have as a child
A smooth song that makes me you believe you can have beautiful dreams.
[Verse 1]
Spare a little candle, save some light for me
Figures up ahead moving in the trees
White skin in linen, perfume on my wrist
And the full moon that hangs over these dreams in the mist
[Verse 2]
Darkness on the edge, shadows where I stand (Shadows where I stand)
I search for the time on a watch with no hands
I want to see you clearly, come closer than this (All that I remember)
But all I remember are the dreams in the mist
[Chorus]
These dreams go on when I close my eyes
Every second of the night, I live another life
These dreams that sleep when it’s cold outside
Every moment I’m awake, the further I’m away (The further I’m away)
[Verse 3]
Is it cloak-and-dagger? Could it be spring or fall?
I walk without a cut through a stained-glass wall (Weaker in my eyesight)
Weaker in my eyesight, the candle in my grip (Words that have no form)
And words that have no form are falling from my lips
[Chorus]
These dreams go on when I close my eyes
Every second of the night, I live another life
These dreams that sleep when it’s cold outside
Every moment I’m awake, the further I’m away (The further I’m away)
[Bridge]
There’s something out there I can’t resist
I need to hide away from the pain
There’s something out there I can’t resist
[Verse 4]
The sweetest song is silence that I’ve ever heard (Feet don’t touch the earth)
Funny how your feet in dreams never touch the earth
In a wood full of princes, freedom is a kiss (The prince hides his face)
But the prince hides his face from dreams in the mist
[Chorus]
These dreams go on when I close my eyes
Every second of the night, I live another life
These dreams that sleep when it’s cold outside
Every moment I’m awake, the further I’m away
These dreams go on when I close my eyes (Every single se-)
Every second of the night, I live another life
These dreams that sleep when it’s cold outside
Every moment I’m awake, the further I’m away…
This song is pure magic
Spare a little candle
Save some light for me
Figures up ahead
Moving in the trees
White skin in linen
Perfume on my wrist
And the full moon that hangs over
These dreams in the mist
Darkness on the edge
Shadows where I stand
I search for the time
On a watch with no hands
I want to see you clearly
Come closer than this
But all I remember
Are the dreams in the mist
These dreams go on when I close my eyes
Every second of the night I live another life
These dreams that sleep when it's cold outside
Every moment I'm awake the further I'm away
Is it cloak 'n' dagger
Could it be spring or fall
I walk without a cut
Through a stained glass wall
Weaker in my eyesight
The candle in my grip
And words that have no form
Are falling from my lips
These dreams go on when I close my eyes
Every second of the night I live another life
These dreams that sleep when it's cold outside
Every moment I'm awake the further I'm away
There's something out there
I can't resist
I need to hide away from the pain
There's something out there
I can't resist
The sweetest song is silence
That I've ever heard
Funny how your feet
In dreams never touch the earth
In a wood full of princes
Freedom is a kiss
But the prince hides his face
From dreams in the mist
These dreams go on when I close my eyes
Every second of the night I live another life
These dreams that sleep when it's cold outside
Every moment I'm awake the further I'm away
These dreams go on when I close my eyes
Every second of the night I live another life
These dreams that sleep when it's cold outside
Every moment I'm awake the further I'm away
I was never a big Heart fan, but I have to admit that this song is da bomb!
I was so fortunate, to have grown up in this decade : so many memories, and this is a great song, Clay!
Bernie, you got everywhere. And stayed in the shadows. I bow to you sir. Great song.
your feet never touch the earth- thank you
Amazing, beautiful, and timeless.
You got that right!
Such a beautiful song, and it never gets old! I like this song to kind of help balance me, and get me back on the straight and narrow, when I'm having a rough time.
Happy Spring 2024!
It turns on my nostalgia too much. So I have to listen to the live versions to get back to reality
Beautiful. beings back my high school memories of growing up in Brentwood Ny Long Island. The best times of my life.
Legendary band. A timeline from the mid 70's to the late 80's. True artists all around...
Classic, timeless, beautiful song by Heart.❤️ Never gets old! Love the lyrics, the overall tune & how they harmonize.

In this song, the Yamaha DX7 ROM-3A patch "Marimba" was heard.
Thank you, Bernie Taupin
for your "lyrical genius" in
writing this "thought
provoking" song!
"These Dreams"
is a mosaic tapistry,
line for line and is
Absoulutly
BRILLIENT simply...
BRILLIENT!!
I'm going to pay Heart
to play this at my
funeral.
Actually, it was written by Martin Page, who often collaborated with Bernie for lyrics but not on this one. See Professor of Rock item on this song
Greatest times that never will come back😭
Classic killer track by a great rock n roll band ❤
There are numerous 80s songs that have stood the test of time, and then there are those that are forever etched in the sands of time …… and this is one of them! (along with Starship’s Nothing’s Gonna Stop Us Now, Foreigner’s I Want To Know What Love Is, Mr. Mister’s Broken Wings, and Cheap Trick’s The Flame … just to name a few) ♥️😌
Starship sara is so much better than nothing gonna stop us now.
@@RosalindBurridge-dg6cy YES, another great 80s song from that group, no doubt! 👍❤
Their best song ever..
Yes !!!
It reminds me of my childhood,am 37 but I remember it like yesterday
I first heard this when I was in rehab and the people I interacted with while there. We would sit in the dayroom and talk about our dreams the night before. Miss those days!
i am having the line funny how your feet in dreams never touch the earth put on my gravestone.i still get shivers listening to this song since i 1st heard it in the late 80,s.
Rare to hear actual good quality songs on mainstream Top 40s radio these days. They say music has simply evolved beyond older aesthetic and style, but that doesn't mean it's evolved for the better. Late 70s, 80s, and early 90s was the musical sweet-spot!
Yea I can't stand that excuse that the only reason we prefer this generation of music is because we happened to be born in it. These songs are objectively better than anything you'll hear today. Not to say there's not good music from today... but pound for pound, song for song, newer music doesn't stack up.
And the proof I use for that is the longevity of this music, and how many decades it's managed to not just stay relevant, but how long it's dominated the airwaves, and how many stations still pander solely to 60s, 70s, 80s & 90s songs.
This didn't happen to the same degree for the same length of time with 20s, 30s, 40s music.... and even tho I'm not psychic, I'll wager that it won't happen with 00s & 10s music, either.
If the world makes it another 30-40 years, and FM radio is still a thing, more stations will be devoted to this time period of music over what's been produced in the past 20 years.
Maybe I underestimate people's nostalgia for horrible music, but I just can't see young people from today seeking out Lady Gag(a) songs 50 years from now. And with how music & the world in general are going, I don't see any new golden ages of music on the horizon. There will (hopefully) always be new good songs coming out from time to time, but we'll never see another concentration of timeless epicness like in the 70s-80s. It's just not gonna happen.
And I think that a lot of the young people who grew up with a 70s-80s influence from their parents/ grandparents, or just a natural affinity for this generation of music (which you see a lot of with young people), will end up skipping their generation of music for the most part and going back to this period in time.
I may be wrong, but I just don't see how anybody, if given the choice, would choose this latest generation of music over the ones that preceded it.
In this song, the Yamaha DX7 ROM-1A patch "Tub Bells" was heard.
In the 80's specifically in 1985 y 1986 high school time, I used to feel like a champion with my Walkman and listening to this song and even more when I used to run in marathons
A great timeless song 🌹🎼❤️
A real classic from heart ❤
I love 80s music. This crap they put out today is beyond me.
What a tune.
A classic from heart 😂😂😂😂
Amazing beautiful melody intro
In this song, the Roland TR-808 was heard.
I love you, Nancy.😢
From the first time I ever heard its opening lines I always thought there was something Streisand-ish about this song (à la 'Woman In Love' - in fact I thought it WAS Barbra till Heart got to the chorus). I'm very surprised she hasn't covered it.
Such a unique song! I like it!
Thanks for uploading this classic.
Who’s listening in 2021 ?
This is their "Stairway to Heaven"...
😎
I thought the same thing!
May God bless you and your family!
STILL LOVE THIS IN 2021
I will die with this song in my soul forever....
In this song, the LinnDrum was heard.

Best quality sound
The intro is chilling. And this version is the best.
@ GREAT HIT !!!, ............................I LOVE IT. ♥️
Listening while looking at images of Maxfield Parrish paintings. It fits SO well.
Clay, this LP version’s sonics sound great! The CD version of this iconic album is too treble heavy sounding.
Appreciate your hard work on these music treasures!
Muy Buena Canción. Saludos desde Chile. 👋🇨🇱
This is/was the way!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!😍😛😋😮💨😮💨😮💨
Que voz maravilhosa,Nancy Wilson .❤❤
That was just so cool...
Supermarket music from the 80s and driving on the interstate music! Lol.
Just imagine this timeless classic casually buried as Track 4 on this disc.
Everything is dreams in the mist. Do you remember your dreams?
I have an extra ticket for Hairball in Evansville.. anyone want to go free?
thanks
Ever since I saw the "Family Guy" episode where they did "Jack and the Beanstalk," where Peter has Heart singing, "These Beans," to the tune of "These Dreams," I can't listen to this song with laughing! Thanks for the upload! 👍
LMAO XD I LOVE it!
I just watched it now on Adult Swim before going to bed and it brought me here lol.
Brilliant! 😊

I'm never giving u up.
I LOVE THIS SONG. AND IM BLACK
Why is it a pattern that on youtube, the better the sound quality is .. the less viewed it'll be .. the worse the quality, the more viewed it will be. Just the same, the better quality of a song will get less views, the worse quality of a song, will get more views. Maybe this is the secret to life and why we live in an effed up backwards world. We just need to practice the opposite of everything we do so things make sense.
I don't understand that either. LOL
@@clayculverdfw In my experience, it's because the lower-quality videos are older. Because of that, they garner more views over the years, thus putting it on top of the search algorithm.
@@albalog2449 You've got a great point there. I agree.
muito Linda esta musica
I needed them to stop.
Better than the rubbish of today 😂😂😂😂
my fave
THE first Time they give Nancy lead, she TAKES Heart, Dreams AND the album straight to Number one...was NOBODY ANALYSING ? l'm just Saying...
She had had other leads before, but it was certainly the first time they released a song sung by her as a single. And she had to fight it because the management didn't want her to sing it. After the success, management told Nancy: "whatever we say, next time, you do the opposite."😃
@@joyk555 That's Soooooo Funny ..
Life is really a dream and when we wake up we will see all of our love ones and have a big laugh that we ever thought we were different and separated from God.
👍📹(Ron Nevison🤞put me her heart these dreams😭What about Love I never found)?
B R I L L I A N T
I will never understand why they felt the need to edit this for the single version. I mean it is not that much shorter than the album version. 4 minutes and 15 seconds was about right for a mid 80s ballad.
Instalike...listen...favs...enjoy...Alone Lp version plz...thx...
Fun fact: this song was offered to Stevie Nicks, who rejected it.
♥♥♥
DONNALEE ❤
so many shady shady covers colors of love ! no phone.
I thought this song played in a movie in the 80's but can't remember what movie

Bernie Taupin wrote the words, I Think! :)
