Peer doesn't retire at the end. He just takes a small break which with Miles taking over the day-to-day spider-maning. He is back in the suit by the post game.

Post-game is just a sandbox. Peter is defacto retired and Spider-Man may well involve Miles teaching his step-sister Cindy Moon (Silk) to use her powers. Edit: this game cucked him to fuck. Insomniac will definitely aim to sideline him again. Even if he does appear, he'll play second fiddle to both Miles and Cindy. Marvel has basically hated Peter for years at this point. Edit 2: the writers have confirmed in an article with Gizmodo that Miles is the main Spider-Man moving forward for the sequel
For me it's tough to say. The first one has a much better story in my opinion, but the second one I'd say has better gameplay and bossfights. The surprise factor of course also isn't really there, because it's a sequel.
I agree. The first game's story was a pretty cool and original take. Spider-Man 2 feels full of fan service by using Sandman, Venom, and Harry, but also suffers from Spider-Man 3 Syndrome by rushing the whole thing and not giving proper justice to any aspect of those story beats.
I don't remember much of the boss fights from and perhaps that can be seen as a detriment, but I hate that all the bosses in 2 pretty much play the exact same. Of the two bosses I remember from the first, Shocker and Doc Oc, they were both unique and asked a bit out of the player. All the bosses in 2 are essentially a game of patty cake where you parry all their attacks except when you can't. That itself wouldn't be so bad but bosses only have 1 or 2 strings which lead the battle to get repetitive before you even finish their first health bar.

I also felt like when compared the original Spider-Man 1 had a story that immersed you deeply into the characters involved. I feel like things move so fast in spiderman 2 that the payoff don't hit nearly as hard. I hate to say this left me dissatisfied especially since so much work went into improving aspects of the game. But I think you hit the nail on the head.
I think everyone played the game a little to fast. Not a big issue, but also pacing is an issue. Since everything moves SOO fast in this game, and since everyone played the game really quickly, it just moves even faster than maybe intended. I do believe there should be more side missions and more story missions not involved w/ the main story. Like random villains or stuff like that. And since there isn’t, everything just moves from plot point to plot point quick af

I wish Harry was Harry for longer besides doing nothing in act 2 and then just becoming venom once Peter took the symbiote off. It was only a few missions and venom didn’t feel like 1 character and motivations were odd. Maybe it was fast cause it was only venom and not any of the sinister 6 like last game? The biggest thing with Spider-Man 2 right now is that it doesn't have a good post game in comparison to Spider-Man Ps4 (which had all the enemy bases) and Spider-Man Miles Morales (which had total control over the crime activity). I'm expecting future updates may reintegrate these features down the line, a New game plus (which was something added later in the previous games after their releases), and DLC that can cover maybe both the Chameleon and Carnage subplots.
This is my main complaint. They’re adding new game plus which fixes this a bit but I’ve done everything except for a few Emily may missions and I’m just swinging around and stopping random crimes. Great side content but not a lot. So it’s in desperate need of DLC to really push that post game.
Yeah, the game lacks content thats for sure. I think they were with miles morales in mind and not spider man 1 when doing the content for that game lol Just one set of goons and bases is really a shame. You have all those new cool symbiote skills just to punch hunters? They had to keep the simbiots alive, which is very off the canon because they should all die (including the nests) to give us another enemies to fight post game But then even after killing all nests they still remain on game But for me the biggest problem is that the story is too short The first act is too long (in a first moment i DON’T THINK it is long, it is perfectly paced introducing harry agent venom and the hunters) but if you are giving us 15 missions of first act then give us at least more 30 missions in the game! We barely had the symbiote for 9 missions then lose it.. ok agent venom gives us the skills back but not bully lowenthal
I’d say the gameplay is definitely better, but the story didn’t hit as hard as the first game. Except for the Black Suit/Symbiote suit parts, that was freakin awesome! I also did like the wholesome moments like Spiderman sitting on the bench with the old man, or his pigeon buddy from the first game. Also the Harlem museum and the carnival were cool (sure i wouldn’t want the whole game to be like that, but i did like it a little.)
I felt that Spider-Man 2 had the best side missions in any video game, especially a super-hero game. Every one felt like care was put into it, and had a great payoff.

I feel like kraven was pretty fleshed out, the talon missions and hunter bases give you insight about all of kravens family hunting him because they want his position, come to find out they all died trying to kill him or killed each other, he was a man who was tired and sick, and wanted a quick death to a worthy opponent, I kinda felt sorry for him because it highlights the realism of death and the things it can do to a person.
I can only dream of how exciting and scarier it would be if the old peter model got the symbiote. The new one was menacing but the old face model would've been something else. He seems more serious. I think pc modders will do this in the future
The new model has more of 'bad boy' vibe which kind of fits him, although doesn't fit Peter overall. It definitely would have been a lot better since it was also more expressive. His eyes were so realistic, this one's eyes don't express anything at all which is why he looks so unnatural.
Story wise first game I feel was better. Kraven was done extremely well in 2 but black suit Peter and Venom both felt rushed. The first game had a lot more emotion as well. However, the gameplay was much better in SM 2.
One thing I love about this game, the Symbiote didn’t seem to have any negative effects before bonding with Peter. I don’t know if there’s much actual evidence for this, but it’s my headcannon that Venom wouldn’t of happened without Peter taking the Symbiote and bonding so much with it.
In my opinion gameplay wise its way better but storywise I much prefer the first game. The second game's story never hit as hard as the first game did with Otto's downfall and May's death. Harry's (almost) death didn't have anywhere near as much as an impact for me and I think that might be because of the amount of things this game has going on. Because the first game had less going on, it had more time to flesh out the characters and really made me feel for them more. The villains in Spider-man 2 were just weaker in my opinion. Kraven was boring unlike Mr Negative who was a fresh villain most spider-man fans were unaware of. Kraven doesn't have any personal connection to Spider-man which in my opinion makes the conflict less interesting while Mr Negative works with Aunt May which makes that story way more personal and therefore way more interesting for me. Even thoughTony Todd's performance as venom was so fucking good, I wasn't anywhere near as invested in where the story was going with him as I was with Doctor Octopus as I think there was more time spent on developing Peter's relationship with Otto as there was with Peter's relationship with Harry. Despite this there is still plenty of stuff with the second game I prefer to the first game. Like I loved how the second game explored Miles' anger at Li for taking his dad from him and actually explored this in a good amount of depth. They then let Miles come to know Li and start to understand his pain and even though Miles never forgives Li he lets go of his hatred and this whole arc is just done incredibly well. Not only does Miles let go of his hatred but he makes Li a better person. This is exactly the type of thing spider-man would do and it just shows how well the writers actually understand the character of spider-man. Both games highlight the sacrifices that come with being spider-man and although I think the first game does this better, I still think both of them definitely have their merits
Kraven’s depth comes from the fact that he wants to die on his feet to a true challenger, very Spartan like. Is it as impactful as him having a personal tie with Peter? No of course not, but not ever villain needs to. I like that all of Kraven’s motivations are all personal to himself and really tragic in a way. While I didn’t agree with his villainy I think it’s understandable as human beings to want to go out on our own terms. Plus I like how each villain had different motivations. Li and Doc Oc both just wanted Norman to pay, for different reasons sure, but same motivation none the less.
I agree with everything but Kraven I think Kraven was awesome BECAUSE he had no ties to Peter. You had to work to understand his motivations, just to find out he's a fucking psycho. He is actually purely bad. No sympathy at all. We need villains who are just bad. And he actually got what he wanted: A glorious death I definitely agree with Venom as Harry. I like Harry, but his fall was knowhere as impactful as Otto. Also, Harry as Venom is a huge mistake to me. Apart of Venom's character is that they both hate Peter. Eddie for having his career ruined by Peter, and Venom being like an angry EX who wants to get revenge for being dumped. They have a reason to team up Also the Symbiote Invasion was stupid, something like that should NOT be crammed into a third act. It needs whole game focus. Miles' arc with Lee was good, but that's it. The rest of his story sucks. And just takes away the time we could be adding more into Peter's Symbiote Arc. And I think the biggest waste is Peter's Symbiote Arc. It was nor onlt rushed, but according to the game only lasted for a few days? REALLY?! He should of had the Symbiote for 70-80% of the story. A longer story as well(Story was too short in my opinion) I'm just gonna say it, if they wanted to "Reinvent" Venom as they said, then they should of made Peter Venom Like you said about Otto being the main person to "Fall" in the first game, I think despite Harry being painted as the main one, Peter's Fall was the better of the 2. What if they made the entire story focus on Peter's Fall, and he does fall so hard he becomes Venom, turning from the lead protagonist into the lead antagonist of the game. They can aline that with Miles, but with Miles put all the focus on his revenge Arc instead of the boring filler that came with it. And instead of making Harry the villain, make him the moral compass like May was. Where despite his sickness, he would rather die saying goodbye and being the one to "save" Peter, than be a Symbiote monster

I know Peter didn’t retire but I’m a bit worried he won’t be playable for a while after this as the Avengers are canon to the insomniac universe but they haven’t helped at all and while it’s explained in the first game I don’t think they’d be gone for almost 2 years so they might give him the same treatment.
Tbh the 2018 story is just better, more personal and executes it’s plot twists better. Not saying SM 2 is bad, it’s a better game overall, just the story missed the mark, specifically in act 3 but other then that it’s my favourite game of all time. Gameplay, graphics and map are all very good and it deserves GoTY and I’m excited for Carnage(?) DLC.
My biggest issue with the story is that the first act is a little too long and drawn out compared to the second and third. It feels like we didn't get nearly enough Bully Lowenthal and maybe one more mission playing as Venom and a few more missions of screentime with him would've been nice. It all came and went pretty quickly IMO.

And I think everyone played the game to fast. Yeah pacing is an issue, but when everyone beats a game in a a few days, or a week or two, then pacing will be a lot faster cause the person beat the game pretty fast
I think it is better. It’s the perfect example of innovating where it counts and building from what you have already had in the first game. Just like with the Arkham games, they built on what was already there. New combat moves, the prototype weapons and new swinging shit plus obviously better graphics and more boss fights and a more complex story. Not to mention the character swapping mechanics and the new fast travel system. Upgrades where it counts
I think Spider-Man 2 is better than the first game in terms of gameplay, boss fights, cutscenes, and Yuri Lowenthal’s performance. As far as story? The first game was better in that regard.
The more I think about it Spider Man's 1 story is better overall because the characters were more developed. Of course we know who Harry is, but we don't know Insomniac Harry that well. There wasn't enough development with him to make me care. Tbh it developed MJ more than it did Harry when MJ is pretty developed already. But they did well considering they had to balance out two stories in the same game. The symbiote arc was my favorite but it felt just a bit too short.
There a complete dissonance. I'm not a big Spidey fan so I don't really know who Harry was. He's just Peter's and MJ's friend from way back. I don't really know what the three of them have been through together. And the game doesn't do a good job at establishing their bond. So when the cast gets sad about Harry's health... I found myself not caring because I personally don't care about him or have any emotional connection to him. I think the game just expects me to fill in the blanks and care. But I did not have the emotional investment in the slightest to care.
The gameplay, fluidity, being able to be both Peter and Miles, and the fact that the game focuses on the Symbiotes (my favorite comic book concept) all are things I think this game does better than the others. I do think the first game had an overall better story that hit me more emotionally than 2 did. 2 was close but the story for 1 is still my favorite.
Spiderman 2 was my first next gen experience and the first playstation game i've played since the ps2. I gotta say the load times and the fast travel shocked me, I didn't even realize that was possible yet.
Spiderman 2018 is a masterpiece superhero game, so is miles morales, and so is spiderman 2. I don’t think it’s a situation where 1 is better than the other. Insomniac has genuinely created all time level video games here
I actually liked that the big bosses had several health bars. It made them feel more epic than the last games, but it saves after each one so it wasn't too frustrating to die.
I've enjoyed both spiderman games and I'm looking forward to seeing where the next one takes us. One thing I liked about the second one was the chase section with black cat. And that portal jumping would be a great mechanic for some sort of spiderverse game, jumping between different new yorks would definitely make the game feel fresh and not another copy and paste with a fresh bit of paint.
In my opinion, compared to the previous games, the story is impressive, even the presence of venom and the symbiote suit, but it's not as good as the previous games, The gameplay, well, it got better in the sequel, infact, both miles and peter got new finishers, then peter could also use the symbiote suit which is the badass part of the game and miles could use his ultrasonic explosion (idk really how's it called) which is so OP that literally K.O the villains around him, in the game it also got revamped and it's kinda way better than miles morales, the exploration literally got way way better than the previous games, in marvel's spiderman 1 and miles morales, the map was kinda small and the swinging is slow, better not talk about marvel's avengers, the swinging is really really slow in that game, BUT, in marvel's spiderman 2 everything got better, the map got even more bigger than the previous games and the swinging is faster and decent like Spiderman web of shadows. One thing that i don't like about the sequel is that, the map in the previous games felt so rich, but the sequel's map kinda feels empty, like everything you visit, it's just the same as the previous city you visited in the game, the map is still good tho, you can have fun with pro swinging, worth it. But anyways, in my opinion MSM2 really surpassed the previous games, talking about graphic and physics, they're impressive to me, as someone who completed the game, when peter transforms into the symbiote it literally gives me chills, nothing anymore to say about the game, i repeat, it might be the game of the year but there are some issues that for real need to be improved by insomniac, infact, in this age the people are lazy to make games, so they're like this, if they continue like this, it might be that the next game might get more hate tho.
I love focused tighter stories. Which is why the first game and Miles Morales were better. While gameplay and set pieces have improved it's the story that makes it what it is. I was more emotionally invested with those games.
@spider-man500 i disagree. miles' story felt tighter and less bloated than this one. Still enjoyed SM2 though. Just had a stronger emotional connection to the characters in Miles' and Peter's standalone entries.

Its so cool while peter has the black suit when in the rage mode the controller like grows but as soon as you get the white suit it disappears, I haven't seen anyone talk about this either and I thought it was a cool detail.
Already got all the ps5 trophies, 100% the story once and doing my second play-through now, i loved it! I wish we had new game + and more suits, some of the suits for peter were shite
There's some weird problems that weren't an issue in the other 2 games, such as not being able to listen to previous JJ and Danika podcasts? Just some quirks all around and the combat can get overwhelming, I don't think the parry feels right and most often than not I dodge an enemy only to get hit by an attack from offscreen.

True, but that is important to Peters story. Then when he gets the symbiote he feels good like he's not lacking anymore. So yes them putting Peter down is sad but it makes for a great symbiote Peter :)
Far From Home didn't really work, but not because of the Europe setting. First game: The perfect Peter Parker story. Second game: Overall better experience, it has you very much engaged and builds up so well but doesn't land quite right. After Venom is introduced it kind of goes downhill with the exception of the Scream fight and Anti-Venom reveal. Logically it is very consistent, emotionally: it grabbed me from the beginning but it lost me a bit at the end.
Spiderman 1 Peter have alot of cool suit mods and abilities which in 2 have not I hope I can see in the Future that he retain some of the Gadget Techs and use in Future battle such as the Spider Drones Spider Arms and if possible he had Web Blossom which personally I considered as one of his strongest mods in terms of utility and crowd battle taking down multiple opponents at once
lived up to my expectations story wise. BUT it feels like insomniac took a cod approach to it. We for some reason didnt have mission select like in miles morales. No ng+ and so on. Like i feel that those should be there when i get the game rather than having to wait to have them updated into the game.
i feel like the original spiderman had a better scripted and executed story on average (i mean the mj missions were such a chore) but the all the broadening and improvement in the second game make it more fun to play
gameplay, story, and mechanics wise yes, current post game not so much, but just remember everyone: THe reason it seems like its bad is because 2020 was the beginning of the age where everyone started complaining about every single little detail about everything. Yes it started even before 2020, but back then the only thing complained about was actual stuff to complain about.

Hot take: I always will prefer Eddie Brock as venom. I enjoyed harry as venom, But Eddie Brock I enjoy him as like a rival and that there is actual connection between him and the symbionts.
Personally I loved the two games, they complement each other very well, everything that needed to be improved in the first one they did and the new additions, it's a treat without the work, too bad certain bugs and wokist propaganda but apart from that the game is excellent and one of the best of 2023. Ps: You should know it Peter never really stops he always comes back and anyway he doesn't really say it that he stops it definitively, he just takes a break. in the DLC we will undoubtedly incarnate Miles, we will have a Spider-Man Miles Morales 2 to develop Cindy Moon and a game dedicated to the latter and in the third Peter will return it is logical for me, we cannot do the Green Goblin without Peter is like making Robin and Joker fight.
I think the story in Spider Man remastered was better, but the fact that Venom took over New York just made Spider Man 2 better. Plus the fact you could play as him was unreal. If insomniac releases a carnage or chameleon dlc I will say that Spider Man 2 is 100% better

Does peter Parkey actually save anybody in this game? I’m pretty close to the end and as far as I can tell, he’s been nothing but a pain in everyone’s ass while Miles Sue is the definition of perfection 🤦♂️
They followed the same Secondary and Main Villain Thing they did in the original game, We thought Mr Negative was the main villain yet it was Dock Ock, which was an amazing plot twist, and now we thought Kraven but it ended up being Venom, which was known years ago.
I absolutely love this game, but it's lacking basic features both previous games had. There is no New Game +, no way to repeat missions, and less interesting enemy bases than before. Some fan-favorite suits are also not present in the game, and the game is VEEEEERY woke. They had "Arab" characters speak with Indian accents, which is kinda offensive, and some gay characters for absolutely no reason. Had they invested their time into fixing the glitches and adding all the missing features instead of the woke garbage, this game would have been a 10 for me. Too bad.
Generall, yeah. But the thing is lacks is that wow factor that the first game had. It's not really its fault as Insomniac just 100% nailed absolutely everything in the first game. So now the sequel is largely just a iterative update.
I prefer the original bc I only really care about OG Spider-Man. All of a sudden in the sequel Peter is constantly knocked out and weak and only Miles and Buffed MJ can save him. Also, Peter looks younger than Miles.
I feel like the Venom story was a little disappointing, what happened to Venom being an evil monster who wants to torment Peter and make his life hell and kill him? when did it become venom wanting to take over the world web of shadows style. I feel like due to venoms popularity people tend to forget he's main focus is Destroying Spiderman, i get with the story its about healing the world and what not but he didn't even want to kill peter he wanted him to Join him like huh? They could've made Venoms plot a lot more personal and go into more of harry being jealous of how norman treats peter better then he treats harry and feed into that and the symbiote hating him for getting the symbiote off him. Also Venom was not in the game no where long enough, Such an iconic character such a great Villain to only have him for 5 missions bit disappointing. Gameplay wise this game is much better then the original but the original story is a lot better and a lot more personal.
Tbh as good as the games are, Insomniac hasn’t followed the canon at all. I know some will argue it would be too hard that way, but your spider sense honestly shouldn’t be active during the fight with Venom. The symbiote should be weak to fire, but it isn’t. Most importantly, Venom should’ve been Eddie Brock. Why are we always having Harry forced on us as of late? He’s either the Goblin over Norman, or apparently now he’s Venom over Brock. I don’t get it, does anyone really like Harry? For me, in any universe, he’s almost always the most boring character in Spider-Man. Peter would never simply “walk away” from being Spider-Man. It’s not in his nature. “With great power” you know the rest. MJ from the comics was much more understanding of this. They still found the time to live their lives. In this series, she’s lowkey kind of unlikeable. Selfish, like she expects him to give everything up and forget other people’s safety just for her. I’ve seen numerous interpretations of the sinister 6, never saw Mister Negative in any of them until the Insomniac series. Now, if you’ve beaten this game, you’ll know they are introducing Silk (Cindy Moon). In the comics, she was bitten by the same spider as Peter, and is 3 years older than him. In this series, it looks like she will instead by part of Miles’s story arc, meaning she’s probably also a teenager, and probably not bitten by the same Spider as him. It’s working for them so far, the games are great. But they need to tread carefully. Their recent announcement that Miles is now the main guy has been met with a polarizing at best response. And sales numbers indicate what they’re doing isn’t smart at all. The 2018 game is the highest selling super hero game ever at 33 million. Miles Morales in 2020 only sold 6 million. A lot of people only view him as a cheap knock off of Peter, same age he was when he started, same origin story, same personality. Same powers, with the addition of some op electricity based powers that I personally think make his sections too easy. I get that they want diversity, but why not create an original and badass black character in that case? Or do a Black Panther game? Leave the already established and beloved Peter Parker Spider-Man character alone. Just my 2 cents. I’ve dragged this on long enough.

How about which one is has more political messaging? SM1 has pride flags, but SM2 has way more LGBT elements, but also a gun control narrative, the climate change conspiracy (it's not real lol), black worship, and more.
I really thought the fight with symbiote MJ was amazing. Having all of the deep-down personal feelings out during the fight really showed the realness behind maintaining a relationship with a superhero such as Peter who is constantly busy and can't maintain anything outside of the hero's occupation. MJ's words (albeit influenced by the symbiote) felt so real and were necessary for Peter to hear so that he can truly realize what impact this life has on the people around him.
In Gameplay, Side missions and suits in Spider-man 2 is an S Tier but the Story is an A tier at best, but for Spider-Man 1 Story is an S tier because it was more emotional with Doc Ock’s down fall and aunt may’s death but the gameplay is a B or A tier at best both of these games are amazing in their own way!
At least Insomniac learned from their mistakes and improved from its predecessors. Kraven, Doc Ock and Venom are top 3 best Insomniac Spider Man villains

The game play was definitely better, but I felt like the second half of the story was rushed. Plus with the over usage of fake outs was just getting a bit too much.
I know this would probably be a short video but I think would be awesome if you could compare every version of the canceled video game movie tie in of the cancelled Spider-Man 4 movie I completely understand both versions were never finished due to the cancellation of Spider-Man 4
Spiderman 2 made the gadgets very meh. I loved the game in general, i loved the story, the fighting, the traversal. All that was good. Gadgets were nerfed so much.
I love both games but Spider-Man 2 is a natural improvement for me, much like going from the first Sam Raimi spider man film to the second Sam Raimi film
To be quite honest this game is excelent. It is unfortunate that it couldnt really make the same jump in scope that Arkham Asylum made to Arkham City (I mean that would meen Spider Man could go all the way to Philadelphia and that would A be silly, B the game would be 500gb). The Ultimate difficulty is awesome I feel this one was much tougher than both 1 and MM. The only grype I have with this game are the boss battles. To get back to the Arkham games the boss batles in Asylum were objectively garbage and then we proceeded to get some of the best boss battles ever in the following 3 games with Freeze, Deathstroke (in orgins obv) and Manbat being some of the biggest standouts. And in now 3 Spider man games the boss battles just feel very same-ish (apart from Sandman, but come on its an intro level), you jump around using your mobility and make an opening using the environment/web/gadgets/or parry in this last game. They especially dropped the ball on the Miles - Symbiot Peter fight. I mean even on Ultimate he gets webbed up so easily and the entire fight felt very formulaic you jump around using your mobility and webs/the bell to create openings. Bruh you have the same mobility, you should not be able to do that. I think they should have made Symbiot peter be able to A predict some of your moves B track you down while swinging. Same goes for Venom, he canonicaly does not trigger your Spider sense, there were so many cool gameplay elements they could have made out of that. I just hope that by introducing a mobile flying character like Green Goblin in 3 they can make at least one creative one.
Spiderman 2 is a better game from a gameplay standpoint because of better traversal and comabt. but the story well its good both ways but the 2nd game shits soo much on peter that its funny xD
I think they sorta did Peter dirty in this game, he was always the one who needed saving, by Harry, by MJ and by Miles. Being the older more mature character, Peter’s emotions always seem to be tempered by everyone else in the game. Yes he has the symbiote (which screws with him) but mile’s conquers his demons and conflict with Lee on his own. In my opinion Miles is as just the greater and more controlled Spider-Man. I also know Miles has more powers, but Peter just felt like Spider-Man lite. Without the symbiotes powers, Miles was just better and more powerful in every way. Just as strong, faster with his venom strikes, same spider sense, venom strike ability, immunity to scorpions poison after a while, immune to electricity. Vs Peter who was just spiderman with robot spider legs so he didn’t just seem like total trash. I love miles and I love Peter. I’m always going to be a Peter Parker fan first as he was who I grew up with in the 90s. I just wish they had some equalizing factors where Peter didn’t seem like such a puss puss and wasn’t just so much weaker than Miles
Miles is such a boring Gary Stu character, he's super overpowered and better than Peter in every single way (on purpose mind you because propaganda and white people bad) the fact that this game is even made by the same company is shocking with how bad this one is compared to the first game.
I just like how Peter isn’t a total f**king weakling like he is in the second game and honestly, playing solely as Peter is much more engaging as switching between Peter and Miles :/
For me, Spider Man 2 Exceeded my expectations. the graphics were so realistic, the new suits and gadgets were really slick and clean, the story was a little zig-zagged but I was still in awe every time something happened. My only bad comment about it was the boss fights. they were awesome to go up against but the lizard and venom boss fight were just to hard on ultimate difficulty. I had to tone down the difficulty just to beat the lizard because he did so much damage to me in 1 second or before I even realized I was back in the fight/new phase. But other than that, this game was amazing to play and platinum and i cannot wait for SM3 to come out and see if it can do better than a game I already have as "the best spiderman game known to man" (my opinion)

Venom was badass in the game and Tony Todd’s voice really kills it. Even though his voice is much fitting for Eddie Brock Venom rather than Harry. But I wish Carnage was the main villain instead.
From a purely mechanical standpoint, yes, its better. But from a story/narrative perspective, no way, the first game is far better. The story in the second game is rather mediocre IMHO I mean all they had to do, was copy web of shadows and it would have been great but they sort of did, and mixed it in with some 90's spider-man cartoon with a few hints of Raimi's Spider-Man 3, and also MJ had plot armor so thick your could build a battleship hull with it. Not to mention they made Peter into an apologetic pussy.
Personally no. The story is worse, the graphics kinda look odd in some places so it's hard to say it was truly better, the gameplay is imo less fun. Honestly, it's at best about the same.

Peer doesn't retire at the end. He just takes a small break which with Miles taking over the day-to-day spider-maning. He is back in the suit by the post game.

Post-game is just a sandbox. Peter is defacto retired and Spider-Man may well involve Miles teaching his step-sister Cindy Moon (Silk) to use her powers.
Edit: this game cucked him to fuck. Insomniac will definitely aim to sideline him again. Even if he does appear, he'll play second fiddle to both Miles and Cindy. Marvel has basically hated Peter for years at this point.

For me it's tough to say. The first one has a much better story in my opinion, but the second one I'd say has better gameplay and bossfights. The surprise factor of course also isn't really there, because it's a sequel.

Spider-Man 2 feels full of fan service by using Sandman, Venom, and Harry, but also suffers from Spider-Man 3 Syndrome by rushing the whole thing and not giving proper justice to any aspect of those story beats.
I don't remember much of the boss fights from and perhaps that can be seen as a detriment, but I hate that all the bosses in 2 pretty much play the exact same. Of the two bosses I remember from the first, Shocker and Doc Oc, they were both unique and asked a bit out of the player. All the bosses in 2 are essentially a game of patty cake where you parry all their attacks except when you can't. That itself wouldn't be so bad but bosses only have 1 or 2 strings which lead the battle to get repetitive before you even finish their first health bar.
It’s like RGG Studio with Judgment and Lost Judgment, where the first game had a story that ties it all up while the second game had better gameplay.

I also felt like when compared the original Spider-Man 1 had a story that immersed you deeply into the characters involved. I feel like things move so fast in spiderman 2 that the payoff don't hit nearly as hard. I hate to say this left me dissatisfied especially since so much work went into improving aspects of the game. But I think you hit the nail on the head.
I think everyone played the game a little to fast. Not a big issue, but also pacing is an issue. Since everything moves SOO fast in this game, and since everyone played the game really quickly, it just moves even faster than maybe intended. I do believe there should be more side missions and more story missions not involved w/ the main story. Like random villains or stuff like that. And since there isn’t, everything just moves from plot point to plot point quick af

It was only a few missions and venom didn’t feel like 1 character and motivations were odd. Maybe it was fast cause it was only venom and not any of the sinister 6 like last game? The biggest thing with Spider-Man 2 right now is that it doesn't have a good post game in comparison to Spider-Man Ps4 (which had all the enemy bases) and Spider-Man Miles Morales (which had total control over the crime activity). I'm expecting future updates may reintegrate these features down the line, a New game plus (which was something added later in the previous games after their releases), and DLC that can cover maybe both the Chameleon and Carnage subplots.
This is my main complaint. They’re adding new game plus which fixes this a bit but I’ve done everything except for a few Emily may missions and I’m just swinging around and stopping random crimes. Great side content but not a lot. So it’s in desperate need of DLC to really push that post game.

The first act is too long (in a first moment i DON’T THINK it is long, it is perfectly paced introducing harry agent venom and the hunters) but if you are giving us 15 missions of first act then give us at least more 30 missions in the game! We barely had the symbiote for 9 missions then lose it.. ok agent venom gives us the skills back but not bully lowenthal

I’d say the gameplay is definitely better, but the story didn’t hit as hard as the first game. Except for the Black Suit/Symbiote suit parts, that was freakin awesome!
I also did like the wholesome moments like Spiderman sitting on the bench with the old man, or his pigeon buddy from the first game. Also the Harlem museum and the carnival were cool (sure i wouldn’t want the whole game to be like that, but i did like it a little.)

I felt that Spider-Man 2 had the best side missions in any video game, especially a super-hero game. Every one felt like care was put into it, and had a great payoff.

I feel like kraven was pretty fleshed out, the talon missions and hunter bases give you insight about all of kravens family hunting him because they want his position, come to find out they all died trying to kill him or killed each other, he was a man who was tired and sick, and wanted a quick death to a worthy opponent, I kinda felt sorry for him because it highlights the realism of death and the things it can do to a person.
I can only dream of how exciting and scarier it would be if the old peter model got the symbiote. The new one was menacing but the old face model would've been something else. He seems more serious. I think pc modders will do this in the future

It definitely would have been a lot better since it was also more expressive. His eyes were so realistic, this one's eyes don't express anything at all which is why he looks so unnatural.
Story wise first game I feel was better. Kraven was done extremely well in 2 but black suit Peter and Venom both felt rushed. The first game had a lot more emotion as well.
However, the gameplay was much better in SM 2.
One thing I love about this game, the Symbiote didn’t seem to have any negative effects before bonding with Peter. I don’t know if there’s much actual evidence for this, but it’s my headcannon that Venom wouldn’t of happened without Peter taking the Symbiote and bonding so much with it.

In my opinion gameplay wise its way better but storywise I much prefer the first game. The second game's story never hit as hard as the first game did with Otto's downfall and May's death. Harry's (almost) death didn't have anywhere near as much as an impact for me and I think that might be because of the amount of things this game has going on. Because the first game had less going on, it had more time to flesh out the characters and really made me feel for them more. The villains in Spider-man 2 were just weaker in my opinion. Kraven was boring unlike Mr Negative who was a fresh villain most spider-man fans were unaware of. Kraven doesn't have any personal connection to Spider-man which in my opinion makes the conflict less interesting while Mr Negative works with Aunt May which makes that story way more personal and therefore way more interesting for me. Even thoughTony Todd's performance as venom was so fucking good, I wasn't anywhere near as invested in where the story was going with him as I was with Doctor Octopus as I think there was more time spent on developing Peter's relationship with Otto as there was with Peter's relationship with Harry. Despite this there is still plenty of stuff with the second game I prefer to the first game. Like I loved how the second game explored Miles' anger at Li for taking his dad from him and actually explored this in a good amount of depth. They then let Miles come to know Li and start to understand his pain and even though Miles never forgives Li he lets go of his hatred and this whole arc is just done incredibly well. Not only does Miles let go of his hatred but he makes Li a better person. This is exactly the type of thing spider-man would do and it just shows how well the writers actually understand the character of spider-man. Both games highlight the sacrifices that come with being spider-man and although I think the first game does this better, I still think both of them definitely have their merits
Kraven’s depth comes from the fact that he wants to die on his feet to a true challenger, very Spartan like. Is it as impactful as him having a personal tie with Peter? No of course not, but not ever villain needs to. I like that all of Kraven’s motivations are all personal to himself and really tragic in a way. While I didn’t agree with his villainy I think it’s understandable as human beings to want to go out on our own terms. Plus I like how each villain had different motivations. Li and Doc Oc both just wanted Norman to pay, for different reasons sure, but same motivation none the less.

I think Kraven was awesome BECAUSE he had no ties to Peter. You had to work to understand his motivations, just to find out he's a fucking psycho. He is actually purely bad. No sympathy at all.

Like you said about Otto being the main person to "Fall" in the first game, I think despite Harry being painted as the main one, Peter's Fall was the better of the 2. What if they made the entire story focus on Peter's Fall, and he does fall so hard he becomes Venom, turning from the lead protagonist into the lead antagonist of the game.
They can aline that with Miles, but with Miles put all the focus on his revenge Arc instead of the boring filler that came with it.
And instead of making Harry the villain, make him the moral compass like May was. Where despite his sickness, he would rather die saying goodbye and being the one to "save" Peter, than be a Symbiote monster

I know Peter didn’t retire but I’m a bit worried he won’t be playable for a while after this as the Avengers are canon to the insomniac universe but they haven’t helped at all and while it’s explained in the first game I don’t think they’d be gone for almost 2 years so they might give him the same treatment.

Tbh the 2018 story is just better, more personal and executes it’s plot twists better. Not saying SM 2 is bad, it’s a better game overall, just the story missed the mark, specifically in act 3 but other then that it’s my favourite game of all time. Gameplay, graphics and map are all very good and it deserves GoTY and I’m excited for Carnage(?) DLC.
My biggest issue with the story is that the first act is a little too long and drawn out compared to the second and third. It feels like we didn't get nearly enough Bully Lowenthal and maybe one more mission playing as Venom and a few more missions of screentime with him would've been nice. It all came and went pretty quickly IMO.

I think it is better. It’s the perfect example of innovating where it counts and building from what you have already had in the first game. Just like with the Arkham games, they built on what was already there. New combat moves, the prototype weapons and new swinging shit plus obviously better graphics and more boss fights and a more complex story. Not to mention the character swapping mechanics and the new fast travel system. Upgrades where it counts

I think Spider-Man 2 is better than the first game in terms of gameplay, boss fights, cutscenes, and Yuri Lowenthal’s performance. As far as story? The first game was better in that regard.
The more I think about it Spider Man's 1 story is better overall because the characters were more developed. Of course we know who Harry is, but we don't know Insomniac Harry that well. There wasn't enough development with him to make me care. Tbh it developed MJ more than it did Harry when MJ is pretty developed already. But they did well considering they had to balance out two stories in the same game. The symbiote arc was my favorite but it felt just a bit too short.
There a complete dissonance. I'm not a big Spidey fan so I don't really know who Harry was. He's just Peter's and MJ's friend from way back. I don't really know what the three of them have been through together. And the game doesn't do a good job at establishing their bond. So when the cast gets sad about Harry's health... I found myself not caring because I personally don't care about him or have any emotional connection to him. I think the game just expects me to fill in the blanks and care. But I did not have the emotional investment in the slightest to care.
The gameplay, fluidity, being able to be both Peter and Miles, and the fact that the game focuses on the Symbiotes (my favorite comic book concept) all are things I think this game does better than the others.
I do think the first game had an overall better story that hit me more emotionally than 2 did. 2 was close but the story for 1 is still my favorite.
Spidey 2 is a great game. The biggest flaw is the confusing title & I didn't like the redesigned Pete, MJ, Miles (very minor complaints)
Spiderman 2 was my first next gen experience and the first playstation game i've played since the ps2. I gotta say the load times and the fast travel shocked me, I didn't even realize that was possible yet.
Spiderman 2018 is a masterpiece superhero game, so is miles morales, and so is spiderman 2. I don’t think it’s a situation where 1 is better than the other. Insomniac has genuinely created all time level video games here

I actually liked that the big bosses had several health bars. It made them feel more epic than the last games, but it saves after each one so it wasn't too frustrating to die.

I've enjoyed both spiderman games and I'm looking forward to seeing where the next one takes us. One thing I liked about the second one was the chase section with black cat. And that portal jumping would be a great mechanic for some sort of spiderverse game, jumping between different new yorks would definitely make the game feel fresh and not another copy and paste with a fresh bit of paint.

In my opinion, compared to the previous games, the story is impressive, even the presence of venom and the symbiote suit, but it's not as good as the previous games, The gameplay, well, it got better in the sequel, infact, both miles and peter got new finishers, then peter could also use the symbiote suit which is the badass part of the game and miles could use his ultrasonic explosion (idk really how's it called) which is so OP that literally K.O the villains around him, in the game it also got revamped and it's kinda way better than miles morales, the exploration literally got way way better than the previous games, in marvel's spiderman 1 and miles morales, the map was kinda small and the swinging is slow, better not talk about marvel's avengers, the swinging is really really slow in that game, BUT, in marvel's spiderman 2 everything got better, the map got even more bigger than the previous games and the swinging is faster and decent like Spiderman web of shadows. One thing that i don't like about the sequel is that, the map in the previous games felt so rich, but the sequel's map kinda feels empty, like everything you visit, it's just the same as the previous city you visited in the game, the map is still good tho, you can have fun with pro swinging, worth it. But anyways, in my opinion MSM2 really surpassed the previous games, talking about graphic and physics, they're impressive to me, as someone who completed the game, when peter transforms into the symbiote it literally gives me chills, nothing anymore to say about the game, i repeat, it might be the game of the year but there are some issues that for real need to be improved by insomniac, infact, in this age the people are lazy to make games, so they're like this, if they continue like this, it might be that the next game might get more hate tho.
I love focused tighter stories. Which is why the first game and Miles Morales were better. While gameplay and set pieces have improved it's the story that makes it what it is. I was more emotionally invested with those games.

Its so cool while peter has the black suit when in the rage mode the controller like grows but as soon as you get the white suit it disappears, I haven't seen anyone talk about this either and I thought it was a cool detail.

Already got all the ps5 trophies, 100% the story once and doing my second play-through now, i loved it! I wish we had new game + and more suits, some of the suits for peter were shite
There's some weird problems that weren't an issue in the other 2 games, such as not being able to listen to previous JJ and Danika podcasts? Just some quirks all around and the combat can get overwhelming, I don't think the parry feels right and most often than not I dodge an enemy only to get hit by an attack from offscreen.

True, but that is important to Peters story. Then when he gets the symbiote he feels good like he's not lacking anymore. So yes them putting Peter down is sad but it makes for a great symbiote Peter :)

First game: The perfect Peter Parker story.
Second game: Overall better experience, it has you very much engaged and builds up so well but doesn't land quite right. After Venom is introduced it kind of goes downhill with the exception of the Scream fight and Anti-Venom reveal. Logically it is very consistent, emotionally: it grabbed me from the beginning but it lost me a bit at the end.
Spiderman 1 Peter have alot of cool suit mods and abilities which in 2 have not
I hope I can see in the Future that he retain some of the Gadget Techs and use in Future battle such as the Spider Drones Spider Arms and if possible he had Web Blossom which personally I considered as one of his strongest mods in terms of utility and crowd battle taking down multiple opponents at once
lived up to my expectations story wise. BUT it feels like insomniac took a cod approach to it. We for some reason didnt have mission select like in miles morales. No ng+ and so on. Like i feel that those should be there when i get the game rather than having to wait to have them updated into the game.
i feel like the original spiderman had a better scripted and executed story on average (i mean the mj missions were such a chore) but the all the broadening and improvement in the second game make it more fun to play

gameplay, story, and mechanics wise yes, current post game not so much, but just remember everyone: THe reason it seems like its bad is because 2020 was the beginning of the age where everyone started complaining about every single little detail about everything. Personally I loved the two games, they complement each other very well, everything that needed to be improved in the first one they did and the new additions, it's a treat without the work, too bad certain bugs and wokist propaganda but apart from that the game is excellent and one of the best of 2023.

You should know it Peter never really stops he always comes back and anyway he doesn't really say it that he stops it definitively, he just takes a break. in the DLC we will undoubtedly incarnate Miles, we will have a Spider-Man Miles Morales 2 to develop Cindy Moon and a game dedicated to the latter and in the third Peter will return it is logical for me, we cannot do the Green Goblin without Peter is like making Robin and Joker fight.

I think the story in Spider Man remastered was better, but the fact that Venom took over New York just made Spider Man 2 better. Plus the fact you could play as him was unreal. If insomniac releases a carnage or chameleon dlc I will say that Spider Man 2 is 100% better

Does peter Parkey actually save anybody in this game? I’m pretty close to the end and as far as I can tell, he’s been nothing but a pain in everyone’s ass while Miles Sue is the definition of perfection 🤦♂️
They followed the same Secondary and Main Villain Thing they did in the original game, We thought Mr Negative was the main villain yet it was Dock Ock, which was an amazing plot twist, and now we thought Kraven but it ended up being Venom, which was known years ago.
I absolutely love this game, but it's lacking basic features both previous games had. There is no New Game +, no way to repeat missions, and less interesting enemy bases than before. Some fan-favorite suits are also not present in the game, and the game is VEEEEERY woke. They had "Arab" characters speak with Indian accents, which is kinda offensive, and some gay characters for absolutely no reason. Had they invested their time into fixing the glitches and adding all the missing features instead of the woke garbage, this game would have been a 10 for me. Too bad.
Generall, yeah. But the thing is lacks is that wow factor that the first game had. It's not really its fault as Insomniac just 100% nailed absolutely everything in the first game. So now the sequel is largely just a iterative update.
I prefer the original bc I only really care about OG Spider-Man. All of a sudden in the sequel Peter is constantly knocked out and weak and only Miles and Buffed MJ can save him. Also, Peter looks younger than Miles.
I feel like the Venom story was a little disappointing, what happened to Venom being an evil monster who wants to torment Peter and make his life hell and kill him? when did it become venom wanting to take over the world web of shadows style. I feel like due to venoms popularity people tend to forget he's main focus is Destroying Spiderman, i get with the story its about healing the world and what not but he didn't even want to kill peter he wanted him to Join him like huh? They could've made Venoms plot a lot more personal and go into more of harry being jealous of how norman treats peter better then he treats harry and feed into that and the symbiote hating him for getting the symbiote off him. Also Venom was not in the game no where long enough, Such an iconic character such a great Villain to only have him for 5 missions bit disappointing. Gameplay wise this game is much better then the original but the original story is a lot better and a lot more personal.
Tbh as good as the games are, Insomniac hasn’t followed the canon at all. I know some will argue it would be too hard that way, but your spider sense honestly shouldn’t be active during the fight with Venom. The symbiote should be weak to fire, but it isn’t. Most importantly, Venom should’ve been Eddie Brock. Why are we always having Harry forced on us as of late? He’s either the Goblin over Norman, or apparently now he’s Venom over Brock. I don’t get it, does anyone really like Harry? For me, in any universe, he’s almost always the most boring character in Spider-Man. Peter would never simply “walk away” from being Spider-Man. It’s not in his nature. “With great power” you know the rest. MJ from the comics was much more understanding of this. They still found the time to live their lives. In this series, she’s lowkey kind of unlikeable. Selfish, like she expects him to give everything up and forget other people’s safety just for her. I’ve seen numerous interpretations of the sinister 6, never saw Mister Negative in any of them until the Insomniac series. Now, if you’ve beaten this game, you’ll know they are introducing Silk (Cindy Moon). In the comics, she was bitten by the same spider as Peter, and is 3 years older than him. In this series, it looks like she will instead by part of Miles’s story arc, meaning she’s probably also a teenager, and probably not bitten by the same Spider as him. It’s working for them so far, the games are great. But they need to tread carefully. Their recent announcement that Miles is now the main guy has been met with a polarizing at best response. And sales numbers indicate what they’re doing isn’t smart at all. The 2018 game is the highest selling super hero game ever at 33 million. Miles Morales in 2020 only sold 6 million. A lot of people only view him as a cheap knock off of Peter, same age he was when he started, same origin story, same personality. Same powers, with the addition of some op electricity based powers that I personally think make his sections too easy. I get that they want diversity, but why not create an original and badass black character in that case? Or do a Black Panther game? Leave the already established and beloved Peter Parker Spider-Man character alone. Just my 2 cents. I’ve dragged this on long enough.

I really thought the fight with symbiote MJ was amazing. Having all of the deep-down personal feelings out during the fight really showed the realness behind maintaining a relationship with a superhero such as Peter who is constantly busy and can't maintain anything outside of the hero's occupation. MJ's words (albeit influenced by the symbiote) felt so real and were necessary for Peter to hear so that he can truly realize what impact this life has on the people around him.
Original: Better story but repetitive gameplay

In terms of general gameplay, bosses and set pieces it’s 2 but the original outclasses it in pretty much everything else.
In Gameplay, Side missions and suits in Spider-man 2 is an S Tier but the Story is an A tier at best, but for Spider-Man 1 Story is an S tier because it was more emotional with Doc Ock’s down fall and aunt may’s death but the gameplay is a B or A tier at best both of these games are amazing in their own way!
At least Insomniac learned from their mistakes and improved from its predecessors. Kraven, Doc Ock and Venom are top 3 best Insomniac Spider Man villains

Spiderman 2 made the gadgets very meh. I loved the game in general, i loved the story, the fighting, the traversal. All that was good. Gadgets were nerfed so much.
Yeah the gadgets and suit powers in the first games gave you more options when approaching combat/stealth.
I love both games but Spider-Man 2 is a natural improvement for me, much like going from the first Sam Raimi spider man film to the second Sam Raimi film

It definitely lives up to everyone expectations because Insomniac never disappoints
To be quite honest this game is excelent. It is unfortunate that it couldnt really make the same jump in scope that Arkham Asylum made to Arkham City (I mean that would meen Spider Man could go all the way to Philadelphia and that would A be silly, B the game would be 500gb). The Ultimate difficulty is awesome I feel this one was much tougher than both 1 and MM. The only grype I have with this game are the boss battles. To get back to the Arkham games the boss batles in Asylum were objectively garbage and then we proceeded to get some of the best boss battles ever in the following 3 games with Freeze, Deathstroke (in orgins obv) and Manbat being some of the biggest standouts. And in now 3 Spider man games the boss battles just feel very same-ish (apart from Sandman, but come on its an intro level), you jump around using your mobility and make an opening using the environment/web/gadgets/or parry in this last game. They especially dropped the ball on the Miles - Symbiot Peter fight. I mean even on Ultimate he gets webbed up so easily and the entire fight felt very formulaic you jump around using your mobility and webs/the bell to create openings. Bruh you have the same mobility, you should not be able to do that. I think they should have made Symbiot peter be able to A predict some of your moves B track you down while swinging. Same goes for Venom, he canonicaly does not trigger your Spider sense, there were so many cool gameplay elements they could have made out of that. I just hope that by introducing a mobile flying character like Green Goblin in 3 they can make at least one creative one.

I think they sorta did Peter dirty in this game, he was always the one who needed saving, by Harry, by MJ and by Miles. Being the older more mature character, Peter’s emotions always seem to be tempered by everyone else in the game. Yes he has the symbiote (which screws with him) but mile’s conquers his demons and conflict with Lee on his own. In my opinion Miles is as just the greater and more controlled Spider-Man. I also know Miles has more powers, but Peter just felt like Spider-Man lite. Without the symbiotes powers, Miles was just better and more powerful in every way. Just as strong, faster with his venom strikes, same spider sense, venom strike ability, immunity to scorpions poison after a while, immune to electricity. Vs Peter who was just spiderman with robot spider legs so he didn’t just seem like total trash. I love miles and I love Peter. I’m always going to be a Peter Parker fan first as he was who I grew up with in the 90s. I just wish they had some equalizing factors where Peter didn’t seem like such a puss puss and wasn’t just so much weaker than Miles
Miles is such a boring Gary Stu character, he's super overpowered and better than Peter in every single way (on purpose mind you because propaganda and white people bad) the fact that this game is even made by the same company is shocking with how bad this one is compared to the first game.

The whole "best Spiderman stories are when Peter Parker/Miles Morales and Spiderman's world collide" stopped being fun by Miles Morales.
I 100 percented spiderman 2 and it only took 138hrs.
For me, Spider Man 2 Exceeded my expectations. the graphics were so realistic, the new suits and gadgets were really slick and clean, the story was a little zig-zagged but I was still in awe every time something happened. My only bad comment about it was the boss fights. they were awesome to go up against but the lizard and venom boss fight were just to hard on ultimate difficulty. I had to tone down the difficulty just to beat the lizard because he did so much damage to me in 1 second or before I even realized I was back in the fight/new phase. But other than that, this game was amazing to play and platinum and i cannot wait for SM3 to come out and see if it can do better than a game I already have as "the best spiderman game known to man" (my opinion)

Though this might be an unpopular opinion, but I think the first part was a bit more realistic in general than the latest part.
Venom was badass in the game and Tony Todd’s voice really kills it. Even though his voice is much fitting for Eddie Brock Venom rather than Harry. But I wish Carnage was the main villain instead.
From a purely mechanical standpoint, yes, its better. But from a story/narrative perspective, no way, the first game is far better. The story in the second game is rather mediocre IMHO I mean all they had to do, was copy web of shadows and it would have been great but they sort of did, and mixed it in with some 90's spider-man cartoon with a few hints of Raimi's Spider-Man 3, and also MJ had plot armor so thick your could build a battleship hull with it. Not to mention they made Peter into an apologetic pussy.
