Wow! I have to try that. I've made a Camp bread in a small foil pie tin sat on a egg ring in a small 475ml pot with lid on Trangia Triangle stove. Have to flip it also. I like the baking paper idea. Thank you for sharing this.
Thanks for your videos - I think there great - very easy to follow and understand. Your very good at explaining and a pleasure to watch :) Can't wait to make some bannock bread!
I really enjoyed your video and will try this out this summer when I go back country camping here in Ontario, Canada. Just a bakers tip if you are worried about getting sticky hands or making hte dough dirty when flattening it you can use another piece of paper on top to press your hand against. So your hands don't get sticky. :) Thanks for a great channel and idea!
I just stumbled upon your videos. I think I have watched 3 now this morning. Very interesting and very tasty looking food. I own a Trangia, but have not used it yet. You have inspired me to get out and bake something with it. Thanks for you efforts. Keep cookin'.
anthony johnston About 5-8 minutes on each side and then browned to preference. about 15-20 minutes in all, but its hugely dependent on your pan thickness, heat source and bannock thickness. A good indicator on when to flip is seeing the edges of the bsnnock set.
Sometimes I freeze half of my bannock dough…oil dough lightly..wrap it in couple layers of Saran Wrap…and freeze…I think it would be an excellent idea to take the frozen dough on hike so you have less items to take!!! Btw, if there’s no oil/lard used in dough mixture, you can fry with more oil in fry pan, and vice versa if you did add oil in mixture when you made the dough!
Great video man thanks for sharing why not try adding a few pinches of Italian mixed herbs hmm tastes great also cube up some tin meat or my kids love chopped up hot dogs.hmm keep up the videos . question for you or a video idea ? If you was going to make a stew with meat veg and dumplings how would you do it and what's your favourite stew if you have one . thanks Atb jam.👍
What kind of cheese do you take? Does it keep well for a longer hiking trip? I know hard cheeses will keep well but they wouldn’t seem to work well as a filling for something like this.
That looked very good Really like the baking paper trick. It's just waxed paper, correct? I love packets of pizza dough. quick and easy. Not sure if you are familiar with biscuits and gravy across the pond, but if your are, how about a trying to make a stuffed bannock with sausage gravy and maybe an egg? Could be interesting and tasty, eh? Thanks for sharing and look forwards to more videos!
Cheezehead Chris Heya Chris, thanks for watching! Yes, its waxed paper, the kind of paper you line oven pans with. Love your suggestion of biscuits and gravy with an egg inside, will try that! 🤔😃👍
Robert McMillen heya Robert, thanks for watching. I think it was about 7 minutes each side. But it was on an alcohol stove in freezing temp so its hard to estimate a general time. I would say between 5-10 minutes depending on the heat, but generally when you start to smell bread baking its time to start checking. enjoy!
aiyanna peoples hey there aiyanna, thanks for watching! I think that would be perfect 😊 Some nice slices stuffed in there with the cheese would be yummy!
You make some of the best videos I have come across in a long time. You have excellent speaking voice, and are very knowledgeable about baking outdoors. Do you have a culinary back ground?? You have a new sub, I look forward to your upcoming videos and see your channel growing quickly. Keep up the good work.
Larry Long heya Larry, thanks a bunch for watching! Thats high praise and much appreciated :) I don't have a culinary background but I've enjoyed baking and analyzing recipes ever since my mother taught me how to bake my first muffin when I was a little boy. Cheerio!
Heya Pilgrim, as I mention in the video any instant pizza crust mix will work like a charm in this recipe, but there is also a recipe in the description. Cheers
not sure what you mean by flake as you can not get flaky dough with out folding in lots of fat, lard, butter etc... But if you mean a more stodgy dough then as you say light cake dough then you.
Looks very good. liked the use of the parchment paper. thanks for the tip!!
+Karl's Outdoor Adventures thanks for watching! Yeah, a little parchment paper goes a long way when preparing dough 😄

anthony johnston Thanks for watching! Hope you get a chance to. Would love to see the result 😃

Just discovered your channel. Wonderful stuff! Very well done. One question: what is the size of your pan for this recipe? Thanks!

Jam Thebushcraftman good suggestions, and thanks for watching! Will definitely try some chopped up hotdog next time. My kiddo's favorite as well 😄
What kind of cheese do you take? Does it keep well for a longer hiking trip? I know hard cheeses will keep well but they wouldn’t seem to work well as a filling for something like this.
Лео Сухов Usually its grated Gouda I get in small prepackaged bags. As long as the bag is unopened it keeps quite well in normal temp.
Going on a trip soon just watching videos again and getting ideas! Thanks. Hope all is well, haven't seen any new videos?? All the best my man.
Oxo stock cube, bit of flour mixed in, little water and you got you some gravy to dip your bannock in.
What pan did you use, looks thicker that normal ?
Damn...Scrambled O should take some Bannock tips..

It's what we would call parchment paper, in the US.
We call it wax paper
Great job brother God-bless Miles
Can you use Bannock to make a pie?
Great video, do you have an approximation of how much time you had it on each side with the aluminum foil on?
Robert McMillen heya Robert, thanks for watching. I think it was about 7 minutes each side. But it was on an alcohol stove in freezing temp so its hard to estimate a general time. Thank you :)
do you think summer sausage would pair well?
aiyanna peoples hey there aiyanna, thanks for watching! I think that would be perfect 😊 Some nice slices stuffed in there with the cheese would be yummy!
Great recipe, which pan is that?
How about adding ham, or bacon, or turkey with jalapeno peppers & onions?

not sure what you mean by flake as you can not get flaky dough with out folding in lots of fat, lard, butter etc... But if you mean a more stodgy dough then as you say light cake dough then you.
+Adventures with Frodo I meant a not fully hydrated shaggy dough. Thanks for watching!
I hear people making bannock isn't it just bread ....
I make bread or biscits .
I mix cheese and bacon etc.
So what is the difference.
