I was born 1959 Houston Texas Mexican American I joined the US Navy at the age of 17 I served 6 years always out at sea and then on the road again I'm just glad that now approaching 61 years old I don't have to be on the road any more God is good to those that want to be good in their heart peace to every one!👍💪😎 Paul Garcia.
once there was time, when we were so free in heart, mind and spirit, we could travel in any and all musical directions... no limits or boundaries of thought an creativity... this fabulous song encapsulates that Spirit
Al Wilson was pure genius... musically, intelligence and as with most gifted people, introverted and socially awkward. Reminds me a lot of Sid of Pink Floyd. God puts these extraordinarily gifted people in front of us to enjoy for only a short time ... so enjoy their greatness.
I was born 1959 Houston Texas Mexican American my older cousins exposed me to good music starting at the age of 10 I joined the US Navy at the age of 17 I was always on the road for 6 years nice beautiful song Paul Garcia👍💪😎
J'écoute cette chanson depuis plus de 50 années et jamais, jamais, jamais je ne me lasse de l'écouter ! Je trouve même que plus le temps passe et plus mon plaisir est immense !!!
I didn't realize that Alan Wilson was a member of the "27" club. He died 2 weeks before Jimi and 4 weeks before Joplin. What a cool haunting voice he left us.
I worked at a McDonalds in the San Fernando Valley in 1967-68 and they would come in (before they were famous) and eat burgers inside the enclosure where they ordered instead of eating outside at a table (no inside seating yet at McD's at that time) They had a VW bus and had the cover of their first album taped in the window as an advertisement Later I met one of them at AA meeting in West LA and Bear would sometimes sing at the Topanga Corral where I used to go before sobriety, but I was never there when he was Great group and great sound
I was about 12 ... had older siblings ... basically a motorcycle family ....heard this song and hit the road at about 15 ....all over the country....got a trade ...62 years old now ....was a commercial fisherman ....high rise builder ....specialty concrete work ....came to Hawaii ...kicked ass ... retired now on acerage ...nobody fucks with me ...peace on earth ....little town...peace at last ....this song help me get here !!!!
This song is Alan Wilson at his best- a few years before madness planted its flag in Wilson`s great mind. As Hooker said, Wilson was one of the great harp players-right there with Little Walter. The tembura-with its mysticism-was Alan`s idea. And the vocals-pure Skip James. Hite, Vestine, Taylor and Fito were talented .But Wilson was in a class of his own-an example of Schopenhauer`s dictum: "Genius and madness are sure near allied-and thin is the partition that between them does divide."
love this song. the drone is so hypnotic, along with the harmonica, they should have made it a 20m track, covering one side of the album. never get tired of this.
Never forget walking into a mammoth, darkened cave-like bar in Boulder with friends in '68 after traveling from western PA to bring a bud who'd transferred to U of Colorado back east for Christmas break, and this Canned Heat classic was reverberating off the rock walls adding the mellowest touch to the coolest place i"d ever seen before or since.
ive always adored this intro ,,,what a very special voice this lovely guy as ,,,,This classic will live until eternity,,,, sadly we wont xxx the sound is so stunning xxlol
This song reminds me of my younger days in Chicago with one of my good friends i was his riding partner on his Harley we went everywhere that was in Chicago were my heart and memories will always be if you could only go vack in time would be nice life is short never know when your time is coming!!
LYRICS: Well, I'm so tired of crying But I'm out on the road again I'm on the road again Well, I'm so tired of crying But I'm out on the road again I'm on the road again I ain't got no woman Just to call my special friend You know the first time I traveled Out in the rain and snow In the rain and snow You know the first time I traveled Out in the rain and snow In the rain and snow I didn't have no payroll Not even no place to go And my dear mother left me When I was quite young When I was quite young And my dear mother left me When I was quite young When I was quite young She said, "Lord, have mercy On my wicked son." Take a hint from me, mama Please don't you cry no more Don't you cry no more Take a hint from me, mama Please don't you cry no more Don't you cry no more 'Cause it's soon one morning Down the road I'm going But I ain't going down That long old lonesome road All by myself But I ain't going down That long old lonesome road All by myself I can't carry you, baby Gonna carry somebody else
This song 'Defined' the 1960's...........I know, I was there and lived it!!!..................Local, So Cal guys!............I use to eat at Bobs, 'BIG BOY' and see "BIG BEAR", Bob Hite! there!............He picked up my tab one afternoon!..........They were Great!......RIP, Guys!!!
Thanks Haake for posting the whole song, the extended solo is oft left out. This version if you know nothing of Alan is the epitome of blues harp. Yes they had to double, triple etc. the harpsichord sound but the harp is so rich. And his vocals live on in commercials, on the radio an in our heads still to this day. The real deal!
When my friends and I first heard this back in the 60's we laughed because it was so different especially the vocals. It sounded like he was singing out of tune, like they picked somebody off the street to sing this song. It sounded great! I always picture a train engine when I hear the beginning and the end of the song, that drone sound. When I hear this tune now I'm amazed at how good it is.
I have a vision of myself driving my Citroen down a desert road in New Mexico with the sun going down, a tumbleweed passing on the side, with this song playing full-blast.
My band n I used to play there music, back in the day.i played the drums n still do..I also play the hermonica to this as well love canned heat..listen to it still ..
Blind Al was and is the best, his version of Skippy James vocal style is fantastic. Alan left to soon. This song is simple but like all great blues, works very very well.
If I were to be fortunate enough to get a radio job ever again, I would love to play this version, not the edited version, just like I did when I spent a couple of years at KSHE-95
On the Road Again est une chanson du groupe de musique américain Canned Heat parue le 21 janvier 1968 sur leur second album Boogie with Canned Head puis en single le 24 avril 1968 aux États-Unis, avec Boogie Music en face B.
Sipping an ice cold cane sugar 𝒞𝑜𝒸𝒶-𝒞𝑜𝓁𝒶 with tequila and lime; while *On The Road Again* is playing from an unlicensed Mexican radio station at a fuel stop convenience store, in a hot two road southern Arizona town in the middle of nowhere.
I think you and I must be the biggest Blind Owl fans out there--we are always posting things about him. I can't get over his death. That's probably not healthy, but I just keep grieving for him. I hope you're handling it better than I am. Cheers.
I was listening to a public radio station doing a fund raiser in about 2009. They were promoting a Ravi Shankar disc. They song they played had the exact intro and progressions of On the road again.
I'm a disabled veteran at 60 yrs of age in Boyle Heights ELA ... My walking song always ... Classic 😎🇺🇸
"Don't Forget To Boogie" Even in a Wheelchair, our Singer Bob "The Bear" Hite had to perform in a Wheelchair after accident with Metal Doors.
If you love this song my friend, we are soul brothers

man did we party to canned heat boogie in the early 70's. boy was that the time to live as a teenager :).
It's ironic that songs so full of sadness, pain and suffering give us such joy and happiness.
One of the greatest songs of all time. I want it played at my funeral!!
...YEH...!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.....THANKS....GRACIES...CONGRATULATIONS...___________________________-THE...FINEST...SONG..OF...ALL..TIME...AND...TIMES...______THANKS..._______________________@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@

LYRICS:
Well, I'm so tired of crying
But I'm out on the road again
I'm on the road again
Well, I'm so tired of crying
But I'm out on the road again
I'm on the road again
I ain't got no woman
Just to call my special friend
You know the first time I traveled
Out in the rain and snow
In the rain and snow
You know the first time I traveled
Out in the rain and snow
In the rain and snow
I didn't have no payroll
Not even no place to go
And my dear mother left me
When I was quite young
When I was quite young
And my dear mother left me
When I was quite young
When I was quite young
She said, "Lord, have mercy
On my wicked son."
Take a hint from me, mama
Please don't you cry no more
Don't you cry no more
Take a hint from me, mama
Please don't you cry no more
Don't you cry no more
'Cause it's soon one morning
Down the road I'm going
But I ain't going down
That long old lonesome road
All by myself
But I ain't going down
That long old lonesome road
All by myself
I can't carry you, baby
Gonna carry somebody else
