Can’t the powers to be think of something else besides casinos?Texas enticed corporations by giving them tax breaks and other things to move there,but they could only hire people from Texas.

All I can say is if we are able to help our fellow American/human let’s do it, no matter how small it may seem to be. We need some God fearing people in our government as well.

Gotta help your self!!! I don’t care. I left for 8 years and come home with 75$. Less than a year I was making 50k a year had new car apartment completely self sustaining from day 1. No excuses. If your there. You don’t want better.

But property taxes in those poorest areas areas super high include water bills reason why everyone is walking away and city turning is a ghost town
Nobody lives there. But there’s a simple solution. If the lawmakers actually wanted these towns to do better, they would condense these neighborhoods into smaller areas. And build outward

Doesn't the county usually just repossess the property, kick the family out, and sell it if the owner doesn't pay the property tax? US citizens think they can own land/home, not like in China, but no one can own land/home in the US. You're just leasing it indefinitely from the county but they just brand, packaged and sold it as property tax. Even after 30 years and paid off the loan to the bank, when you stop paying the lease (property tax), you'll lose your home to the county.

i get this news angle but this is the same bullshit. imagine if laws were changed in these areas to force to the judicial and police systems to hire within their ranks. hire the people who actually live there. imagine building infrastructure that isn't car driven....maybe when we financially incentivize self sustaining communities, we will have them.
Good points. The Union Pacific goes through Chicago Heights , jus to the West. It used to run commuter service long ago (like pretty much every RR) but they ended it decades ago. and the politicians have been talking about bringing back commuter service to via Metra for literally decades, but no action
I think now, they would give the answer that commuting is dead.
But I think the bigger picture is, The political elite in Illinois don't know how to encourage, and otherwise just allow, an economy to happen. And, they are really confused about and have a big problem providing basic public services such as public safety nowadays. If they could figure those things out, Chicago and Cook County and the State would start growing again.
