If you use a tax deferred vehicle for your savings then you need to pay your taxes because you had a choice - you don’t have to use a 401k if you don’t want to. As a 15 year financial professional - the avg American would do better skipping a tax deferred 401k AND the match and using a non-qualified Roth or annuity to not pay taxes in retirement and by the way, not be subject to RMDs which is one of the biggest problems for seniors.

The amount of tax dollars we squander in this country is absolutely criminal. If you take a trillion dollars in taxes from us annually and squander 200 billion of it, then that means you're taxing us 200 billion too much. Our youngest son makes good money, but since everything went up, he is renting a house with a friend. He wants to buy a house but everything has gone up so much. He just can't.

I had to work 2 jobs to pay my rent in the 80s. It pushed me to get a better education so I could get a better paying job. Parents/grandparents didn't have the income to enable me to live off them.
