Enjoyed this! Several that I wasn’t aware of and need to watch. Definitely want to check some of the ones you mentioned at the end too…muscle shoals, wrecking crew, Nina Simone. Clearly I need to watch waiting for Sugar Man…
Enjoyed some of The Union - Elton John and Leon Russell working together (having not met for many years). Thanks for all your great videos. I'd love to know your top 5 piano led albums. I've loved Elton John's 'Songs from the West Coast' since it came out. My piano score of that album is tatty through frequent use over the years
Hey James, I think I might have watched that when it was released. I'm not a die hard Elton or Leon Russell fan, although I appreciate what they do, so maybe it wasn't a stand out for me. My top 'piano-led' albums - oooh, a tough question. 1. Bruce Hornsby - It's tough to pick one album. His earlier albums had such a big effect on me as a young piano player it's tough to choose between: The Way It Is, Scenes From The Southside, Harbour Lights, Spirit Trail and Here Come The Noisemakers. 2. Keith Jarrett - Again, it's tough to pick one so here's two pretty different albums of his: Tokyo '96 and The Melody At Night With You. 3. Ben Folds Five - Ben Folds Five and Whatever And Ever Amen. 4. A Great Big World - Is There Anybody Out There? - Bit left field but a great piano-led pop album 5. Randy Newman - Randy Newman Songbook Volume 1 and Dark Matter Let me know if you enjoy any of those!
@michaelkeithson Thanks! I like Bruce Hornsby. I tried playing the song 'The Way It Is'. I love the piano solo in that song. Although the notes aren't hard, I find getting the feel and expression right is. I'll check out the others, which I'm not familiar with. Apart from Randy Newman (I'm a huge fan). I like the humour and sarcasm of his lyrics and his uncomplicated, relaxed style. There's a song I love to play/sing,'Dayton Ohio 1903'. Harry Neilson did a fantastic cover of it. In one of my bands, we did 'Moma Told me not to come'
Love Sugar Man, definitely great watch. I'd like to suggest also watching Touch The Sound. Incredible documentary about a deaf, full-time professional percussionist.
@@michaelkeithsonIf you want and remember to, please let me know what you think about it. If not, no worries, but I live vicariously through the reactions that others have to this documentary. 😄
Bob Dylan 'Don't Look Back' and Martin Scorsese's epic Dylan doc 'No Direction Home'
Also the Elliott Smith doc 'Heaven Adores You'
Here in the US The Defiant ones was a HBO released Doc.
Moonage daydream, gimme shelter, The birth of cool, 1959 the year that changed jazz, Scratch.
Awesome! Cheers for the recommendations! 🙏
Please make another one of these

Thanks for watching Jon. Would love to know your thoughts once you've got round to watching some of them. Pretty sure you'll love all of them.
