I wanna say, for anyone who watched this and is feeling insecure about their Spanish speaking skills, as a native Spanish speaker I want to remind you that Latinidad is not about language. All Latinos don’t speak Spanish.
Haitians are Latinos they speak Creole.
Brazilians are Latinos they speak Portuguese.
Much of South America indigenous and they speak dozens of languages.
So if you don’t speak Spanish because you forgot it or you were never taught: you are not any less Latino. I wish this had been articulated in the discussion but regardless I wanted to give you this reminder. You are 100% you and that is enough.
Thank you Springhill for giving our community this much needed space. This was beautiful. I’ll be rewatching often.

Thank You for that !!! I am of Haitian and Cuban decent (1st generation) and regardless I feel like I have to constantly prove my self. I am a jack of all trades a master of none...a work in progress still learning. My brain thinks in french/Creole when I am speaking Spanish and vise versa. But I try !!!I had to learn I am enough although society does not make me feel that way

They’re both, ethnicity and race are different. Latino is an ethnicity, not a race. Thus they’re Black Latinos also known as Afro-Latino. But I love that more people are recognizing the beauty in the diversity of so many amazing cultures and people in our society.

Great conversation. For anyone that believes in "twin flames," Laz Alonso is mine. I learned this years ago and he confirmed it. One thing that I will never stop encouraging him to do is be in more spaces on more platforms like this. I appreciate both sides of him. I fully accept both sides of him and I'm unapologetic about it. This is his truth and it is worth sharing with the world, just like everyone else. His journey has been so amazing that hopefully, he'll write and publish a book on it one day. Many would get a lot out of it.

Enjoyed this content thoroughly. I have a Cuban friend I went to school with in South Africa. And I was so happy for him that he found love and started a family in my country. I really hope he makes sure that his daughter learns Spanish fluently. Coz if he doesn't, I know damn sure her abuela will 😆

This was so inspiring to see and hear I wanted this back in 2000. Because this hurt me and put me back when I was young and I wouldn’t tell my kids that yes your dad is half Latino and black and growing up was a struggle for me tell I saw Laz Alonso was in to fast & furious and actually saw him speak Spanish and interviews to understand that he’s not just black he’s Latino so I want to thank him

There is a difference between Latino and Hispanic. Everyone on this show is Hispanic from Latin America. Whereas Latinos encompasses all countries in Latin America. Any country whose language is derived from Latin such as Spanish, French, Portuguese are included.
