- What a powerful & emotional day, one we will never forgot. Learning the experience of what happened on these beaches almost 80 years ago will stay with us. A must do if you are in this area of France.
My dad was on the D-day Landing 2nd world war, he lived till age 92, died 6 years ago, miss him very much, but was good he survived to get to that age. xx
Oh wow … this vlog must have bought back memories for you and even more emotional too knowing your father lived the experience… I can’t begin to imagine how you cope with the things he must have seen 😔
I’m a great believer that every school kid in Britain should visit he D day beaches .
Certainly wish we’d been before x
Lest we forget all those brave people who fought & died on the beaches & in both world wars to give us our freedom today, theirs so much history there in France, It sends shivers down your spine & very emotional when you see all the headstones laid out in rows, we visited a few years ago to explore the area
Spot on it’ll stay with us and we will definitely return brings everything into perspective x
Both grandfathers landed on D-Day at Gold; both survived, both wounded. Both scarred by it. Both fought to Berlin and then came home. People forget and that is human nature sadly. The freedoms they fought for are so easily given away. My grandfathers would be disgusted by Britain now and its 'leaders'. As it is thank you for this. I was there in the 90's and then onto the death camps and then Monte Casino and into Poland over six weeks.
It was a moving experience and ashamed I had no real idea about it all but it was an eye opener and you can’t help to think how did they carry on living their lives after this. The words at the beginning really bring it home on the pkaque. Yes and almost 80 years later we’re still killing each other the greatest threat to our planet is us x
So well said, thank you for the visit,
Wow, there is so much history here. And I agree the beaches are amazing but knowing what happened leaves a very eerie taste in your mouth 😮
Thank you showing x
Toured Normandy WW2 sites twice, you never forget the effect it has on you but still a beautiful place
Again totally agree it will remain with us always how we felt x
It’s a very humbleing place .
I even got emotional while looking at this vlog. Well done and thank you for sharing.
When we visited the American Cemetery an American family were having a graveside ceremony and they played the Last Post. We were in bits. Such a poignant experience. Pegasus Bridge is a good place to visit, it’s not far from Caen, and learn about Operation Tonga and the Horsa gliders.
The municipal site at Arromanches isn’t too bad, not as nice as Bayeux but a great location for the town.
It certainly was an eye opener loved the trip x
One of your best vids, shed a few tears and remember all who fell, enjoy the rest of your adventure 😢
Thank you x
That’s a good point Judy , I don’t think we ever pay for parking in Normandy or Brittany .
We looked but no machines so nice not have to pay and no limits to how long you stay
So much history there we felt the same when we went to pay our respects ..
See you in Lanzorote we fly in on 6th Jan 24 just booked 6 weeks ..
Simon & carrie
It stays with you … ok see you then x
Respect to our Brother and Sister in Arms Kings Own Royal Border Regiment ♦️🦁🇬🇧🙏🙏❤
Indeed x
This is modern history you feel like you can reach out & touch it .they risked their own lives so future generations would have freedom.i hope it wasn't all invain.respect to you both.
An eye opener for sure, wish we’d had more interest in visiting and learning sooner… we will never forgot it and hope to return again one day x
Great video my dad was in WW two and my G/D was in WW one
Very moving video thank you for sharing
Glad you enjoyed it x
What a cracking vlog yet again. You managed to handle a very sobering topic very well, I thought. Although Mark's face peering through the cardboard cut-out of the soldier did make me laughout loud!
We enjoyed learning about it but so sad will def go back again. Thanks x
Like you say, such beautiful beaches but so sad what has happened on them all those years ago.
So sad x
Been to them beaches many times, your walking in the footsteps of giants
It was very eerie but such a great experience x
I remember wrestling with my emotions on a summer's day when watching families playing and swimming on Omaha beach but in my head hearing the sounds of warfare and in my mindseye seeing the lives of so many young men cut down on the sand, very conflicting 😔
Yes agreed I couldn’t sunbathe there knowing what happened… sad as the beaches are beautiful x
We have been saying for years that we’ll do the Normandy beaches and more, Tricia would like to find her Uncles plaque. It’s impossible to imagine what it must have been like. Take care.
We’ve just been up to the commonwealth cemetery so he may there must be so emotional if you have family member there… they were all so young. Def recommend it x
😢❤
Your phone does lovely smooth footage. Looks like it was done on a gimbal at times! It gives the GoPros a run for their money.
No gimble we bought an all singing all dancing gimble and hardly use it.. I feel a right nutter using it .. I feel like everyone looks at you then and thinks what is that old woman doing 😂 if I just hold the phone up like everyone else no one takes any notice … but seriously it makes my hand ache it’s so heavy and it’s a pain carrying it about .. by the time you’ve attached the phone to it and got it set up the moments gone x
@@gypsysoulsjudymark.escapet7388 I’ve got a gimbal and hardly use it as it’s too heavy and I keep losing control of it and it thrashes about!
How do we ever thank those brave soldiers 😢, but it breaks my heart that this great country of ours is getting invaded again..
We cant but just remembering them and putting ourselves in their shoes and trying to imagine what it was like almost unimaginable is what we can do… I wish I’d learnt more about this when I was at school I knew a tiny bit but nowhere near what I should have done. It’s a shame it’s not part of the curriculum to visit and learn .. would it make a difference .. maybe I’m sure it would to me but again as you say we are still killing each other today even after this 🥲
@@gypsysoulsjudymark.escapet7388 visiting this place showing your respect and highlighting it in your Vlog helps the world never to forget, the sad part I honestly think most young would not care what these brave souls did.. thank you
I've not been following your vlogs for a while so can I ask why no caravan in Spain??
We live in the caravan as campsite wardens through summer so it’s nice for Mark to have a complete break from potty patrol hence winter in the Canaries in apartments with pool x
Ps it’s a grand cheaper doing the canaries than towing to Spain these days x
Thanks for that......and did you say the Pathfinder was converted to a campervan professionaly or has Mark done it? X
We did it very basic… kitchen fitted at back removable and caravan sofa cushions with memory foam mattress it’s really cosy and plenty of room. And a Vango hub awning attaches at back.. see vlogs last week at Bracelands campsite..Love a campervan but this is ideal for now x
