It really is, Jacob, and I'm so glad you interpret these changes as 'improvements' to the original mix! Decisions like these are difficult in the moment. You hear a song one way for so long that it becomes difficult to determine whether something needs changing to make it better or whether the desire to change it just comes from being bored with having heard it for so long. But in the aftermath of decisions like that, I really do love the song more now, and I hope listeners generally will agree--whether they notice the changes or not.
I keep thinking the masters won’t sound much different than the demos, but I’ve been pleasantly surprised by the subtle changes in the instrumentation and the vocals :)
@@mattykenobi8313 Yeah man, I wasn't happy with the lack of energy in the original drums, so Andrew re-recorded them with more punchiness. Also, you'll notice I recomposed the second verse to give more of a spatial, rhythmic feel to the piano and drums. More interesting in my opinion. Lastly, I think the addition of the violin lead in the intro/interlude/and outro was key to making this mix pop. That violin lead is one of my favorite melodic strands on the album and it weaves back around later on (as you'll soon hear haha)
Nice! Thanks for spelling it out more :) My ears can hear all that, but I’m less apt at putting it into words. I’m particularly fond of drums on tracks/albums. I grew up around an older brother who’s a drummer, so that’s the first thing my ears notice when listening to a song. I can’t wait to hear the full album!
