As a former Navy Radioman, I always admired the U.S. Navy Corpsman. Any sailor in their right mind always respected and protected the "Doc", the responsibility they had on a Navy ship was incredible...so love you brothers...
Totally agreed with the secret handshake comment. HM1(SW/FMF) Retired 3 years ago. The most fulfilling part is bumping into a Marine in public in hometown, USA and instantly sharing that bond. I would say the most challenging part is the balance and fight between Blue and Green Side facilities.. ie Amphib. Ships with both staff or working greenside and dealing with hospital staff in the performance of your job. Lastly, the death of YOUR Marines. Yeah, that's the kicker.... :( Learn to never armchair quarterback your performance afterward...
This is pretty spot on. Great video. Current Corpsman here. Was with greenside and now blue and absolutely hate it. Can't wait to go back with the grunts.
interesting story, when I was on my 30 silent retreat, I had a old Jesuit priest, great man, humble, patient , very prayerful, I told him I was in the Navy and he said "oh you were, me too, WWII, not many of my buddies made it, I was aboard ship, a Corpsman"......really powerful experience, bonded after that...good sea stories, while tragic but super eye opening and humbled me.
I was a corpsman for 4 years and 13 months with 1/5 during the Vietnam War. One of the marines told me that I was "gay" when I thought that "gay" meant happy. He said that they all knew that I was gay and they liked me the way that I was. Sounds so crazy in 1966-67. I got teased lovingly like them tossing their hand grenades on my cot and telling me to take them to the ammo bunker as they knew that I was afraid of being around explosives. I must have done something right as I knew the marines really liked me and watched out for me all the time. I didn't like the war (obviously) but loved the marines.
Yeah man, I'm on the route of enlistment right now, but the navy isn't accepting atm for some reason. But I will only swear in if its as a corpsman my recruiter wans me to do reserve. I want to go FMF or respiratory therapist tech. If not any of those I just would love to be a corspman nothing more nothing less. Good video brah!
Hey @JTsuits, you told us about the EOD Spec Ops run-ins, but what about SEALS or SWCC. If you could, can you get a former SEAL or SWCC on your channel, just to ask questions like before and after the Navy for them. If not interview one in private and just be the median to tell their story or something. But questions like typical day for them. Do they have time to go to college (because they train A LOT) and so on. I looked through your channel and couldn't really find anything pertaining to Special Forces in general other than AskJT#1. I could have missed it though. Thanks!!
I went to school at Balboa in 71'and graduated Honor Man.I was sought out by several C school instructors and went to EENT ( otorhinolaryngology and maxilla facial
Policy just changed for picking orders. If you aren't top 10% then you aren't picking orders at all. You can still make your dream sheet, but it's been left up to the detailers now to fill the billets that they have open. This may or may not include FMTB just in route or actually going to a unit.
Adam Jensen thank you sir I appreciate the information. Leaving soon and I want to go greenside so ima put in that work to make sure I can pick those orders. again, appreciate it
Surgery and worked at NRMC Oakland. At the end of my enlistment I was hired by my Captain as his personal OR tech as it was his end of enlistment also. Long story short bust ass in Corps School opportunities will open up. Also when I was in A school with a 98.87 average I stood no duty and went home every night.
+Apple O if you really want it tell your recruiter you're willing to wait until a spot opens up. I got lucky cause I had HM as my first option on my wish list at MEPS and luckily someone just opted out of HM. I went into MEPS with the mindset that I wasn't gonna get HM.
My dad served 21 years as a navy corpsman and my dad said in the field with the marines was the best time he ever felt he was important the navy side of the military don't respect there corpsman and it sad I'm 36 with 2 kids and my dad is trying to hide ibis cancer from us but I'm so proud to say I'm a corpsman son and a part of any person in the military
First, I wanna say I love your videos, learning so much, so thanks!! I am deciding between the navy and the coast guard!! My first question what happens and what is the first year like in the navy and or coast guard? Also what do you know about quartermasters and boatswains in the navy and or coast guard?? Thanks
@jtsuits can you please ask the corpsman about SARC what kind of stuff they did and if their promotion was any different then the conventional corpsman.
Sorry correct me if I'm wrong.. the part where you're talking about choosing a job/field? After A school or C school for a navy corpsman... is that we're you choose where you want to go field wise? Or you just get orders and that's that? I'm looking into corpsman or navy nurse... big difference in decision I feel.. thanks for the video!
+linkinpark312981 depends on if you are for sure wanting a specific job. depends on if you have other mos you're interested in and there could be a boot that drops out of BT. it's actually fairly common
I signed my contract on June 1st and was originally suppose to leave in December but I asked if I could leave as soon as possible so they were able to move me up to August 23rd. My recruiter said it's usually 4-6 months.
I was dropped off in the dessert with 7 boxes of medical records that I had to be responsible for not to mention of treating all kinds of Gun shot wounds and burns
K. Holmes from what i see marines really take care of their corpman.Theyre usually friendlie and more respectful towards corpman...this is me as a civilian(for now) saying
Can a female be a Navy Corpsman Green-side combat medic? I’ve tried to do research on this, but I haven’t had any luck finding any solid information. Thank you for your time and am looking forward to your response!
For the navy I was planning to goto reserves right out of high school and do boot camp the summer I finish school then goto college and do A school when the first collage break happens but I have had 2 recruiters tell me different things that yea I can do THT other said I can't need A school right after boot camp
if you do choose a c school can you still go greenside? like for example if you choose surgical tech. or cardiovascular can you still go with the marines?
Hey, I recently signed about 3 weeks ago and I really wanted AM, but they didn't have it, so I ended up getting AC. But my question is am I able to go LSE as an AC?
Hey JT I know navy SEALs have advanced medical training but to get to that trade school do you have to go into BUD/S as a Corpman or is BUD/S the A school?
So I heard in bootcamp you have to float face down for 5 minutes how is that possible? im planning on joining and the longest I can go is 1:40. maybe im misunderstanding
It's called the prone float you slide in a 12 ft pool and then they say "your 5 minute prone begins now" you push of the wall and the just float.... I worked on it because it was 80 of us in my division and 20 people got push back because of it and only 5 made it back
great i needed this because i leave either October or December. right now it's December and i'm going in as an navy coreman i'm really looking forward to being an navy coreman. omits things first so my cousin is recruited by the marines and all they do is talk shit about the navy which i get offended because don't coreman take care of them? i don't understand unless its their nature because i have two older cousins in the marines and they so calm and chill and said the navy coreman are the best because they make sure they are taken care of. i just wanna know what's the best way to start off as an E3 coreman in the navy who brain i need to pick who i need to hang around the most?

the Navy Corpsman are legendary ..........
23 year as Navy Corpsman, 17 years sea duty and 6 years on shore duty/schools. I spent time on both sides and I would go green without a hesitation.
Jeff Jones Can you choose which side you want to be? I want to be blueside HM.
What's fmtb?
As a former Navy Radioman, I always admired the U.S. Navy Corpsman. Any sailor in their right mind always respected and protected the "Doc", the responsibility they had on a Navy ship was incredible...so love you brothers...

Aviation Corpsman VA-93 1971-1975 USS Midway HM2 after 4 years and got out, loved it my opinion best job in the Navy!

Hardest part of being a corpsman.....advancement quotas.
hey Justin keep up the work man and keep doing what ur doing
Hey @JTsuits, you told us about the EOD Spec Ops run-ins, but what about SEALS or SWCC. Brook Van arum what did you get on your asvab and was it open when you went to meps or did you have to wait for it to open up

Adam Jensen how big is the class?

Hardest part was going back to the Navy after 3 years in the Corps.
YES JT you listened! I now know wt i didn't know :p
:)
+JTsuits I graduated bootcamp early July. Thank you for your videos , I'm in corpsman school in for Sam Houston right now
Sup JT! Off topic question: Since you left honorable discharge, are you able to go back on base and/or use the commissary?
Good video. Can you talk about what is in a greenside Corpsman's medical bag?
I just oathed in yesterday MOS ACT. Shi feb 28th
First, I wanna say I love your videos, learning so much, so thanks!! I am deciding between the navy and the coast guard!! My first question what happens and what is the first year like in the navy and or coast guard? Also what do you know about quartermasters and boatswains in the navy and or coast guard?? Thanks
Wow I didn't know cor school got switched from great lakes to San Antonio
@jtsuits can you please ask the corpsman about SARC what kind of stuff they did and if their promotion was any different then the conventional corpsman.
Sorry correct me if I'm wrong.. the part where you're talking about choosing a job/field? After A school or C school for a navy corpsman... is that we're you choose where you want to go field wise? Or you just get orders and that's that? I'm looking into corpsman or navy nurse... big difference in decision I feel.. thanks for the video!
how long does it take to usually get deployed to boot camp after you sign up?
Depends on your job and how much the navy needs you. Could be anywhere from 2 weeks to a year
+linkinpark312981 depends on if you are for sure wanting a specific job. depends on if you have other mos you're interested in and there could be a boot that drops out of BT. it's actually fairly common
a year? holy crap. say for example you want to join spec ops field. does that take long?
+Richurro not too long. just depends on specific things. spec ops has drop outs more and more.
I signed my contract on June 1st and was originally suppose to leave in December but I asked if I could leave as soon as possible so they were able to move me up to August 23rd. My recruiter said it's usually 4-6 months.
I'm same with nails😷 some people cant stand nails in chalk board but moving my knee cap and nail removals 😷😷 nope
so what is the transition from military to civil . what jobs can they get once they are done with their time at the military ??
Standard medical jobs. Nothing of significance without further college classes . Phlebotomy, records, etc
I was dropped off in the dessert with 7 boxes of medical records that I had to be responsible for not to mention of treating all kinds of Gun shot wounds and burns
as a current green side grunt corpsman...i'd pick being with my marines over being blue side every time.
K. Holmes to each their own, nothing wrong with that!
John Maldonado aye bro can u do both green and blue and on average how long are u on grednside? Thx again for your service and response!
Would doing an EMT corse and working as in emt help your chances of being a corpsman
No it won't
For the navy I was planning to goto reserves right out of high school and do boot camp the summer I finish school then goto college and do A school when the first collage break happens but I have had 2 recruiters tell me different things that yea I can do THT other said I can't need A school right after boot camp

Hey, I recently signed about 3 weeks ago and I really wanted AM, but they didn't have it, so I ended up getting AC. But my question is am I able to go LSE as an AC?
my friend went from Marines to Corpsman. Guess he thought the navy was cooler XD
My wish list but they took the whole class to go with marines
Im new to the navy stuff. Are coreman medical sailors?
Shit, If I can't just choose corpseman, I guess I'll be jumping out of helicopters as a job.
Hey JT I know navy SEALs have advanced medical training but to get to that trade school do you have to go into BUD/S as a Corpman or is BUD/S the A school?
Alton akabigpoppa you go into buds after your A school. Your already a corpsman when you go to buds.
So I heard in bootcamp you have to float face down for 5 minutes how is that possible? im planning on joining and the longest I can go is 1:40. maybe im misunderstanding

Sgt.Bubblegum ha ! 5 min face down.... that's funny!
Green side makes the man!
do you ever miss being in? ever think about going back in?
Hey JT Suits can you smoke while working as seaman or do you have to take smoke breaks
smoke breaks in the fan tail or some other designated space.
and you should do a video about boatswain mates
thats one tough rating.......mentally and physically.
nice, im in as an AT and was wondering cross rating to corpsman
great i needed this because i leave either October or December. right now it's December and i'm going in as an navy coreman i'm really looking forward to being an navy coreman. omits things first so my cousin is recruited by the marines and all they do is talk shit about the navy which i get offended because don't coreman take care of them? i don't understand unless its their nature because i have two older cousins in the marines and they so calm and chill and said the navy coreman are the best because they make sure they are taken care of. i just wanna know what's the best way to start off as an E3 coreman in the navy who brain i need to pick who i need to hang around the most?
DrMaNkiD what did you get on your asvab, was it open at meps or did you have to wait for it

bam fam!
bambino
+JTsuits i stay #1
Can u do a video on seabees
I'm not sure what I want to do I have 3 dream jobs marines.navy core men or marines
Mcloven 03 what are interested in? Do you want to be artillery or combat, or are you more interested in acting as a medic for the marines, because Navy corpsmen are sent to work with the marines as medics if you go green side
I'm DEPing in next week
So can I goto boot camp senior year summer of high school then A school freshman year of college
Dont go to GREEN side with a Blue side attitude. Its not looked on too good.
What should I expect right out of A school?
I was a Corpsman on both sides. And on blueside its more political. who you know. Green side is less but more about what you can do.
Can you make a boatswains mate video
aye aye captain!
if you actually have a decent asvab score I advise you tell your recruiter IMMEDIATELY to submit a Dep Action Request to change your rate. If it gets denied he can always keep submitting them but if they keep getting denied and your ship date is getting close I suggest you speak to a different branch like the air force and see if they're willing to work with you and if any branch is willing to work with you I suggest you leave navy DEP. As a bm you will be doing nothing but manual labor and will not learn a trade or anything to help you as a civilian. All you will be doing is swapping the deck and chipping paint. best of luck
Adolf Hitler Right on point,it's a rate for those who score low on Asvab. Someone from my recruiter's office is a BM1 on year 16 so that tells you the promo rate is quite slow likely overmanned. Thing is if your score is low and you look at what the other branches have to offer,Air Force and Coastie may offer better way of life for that score, however Coastie is difficult to enter and retention there is quite sketchy.
How hard is it to become a corpsman? I have obtained my x-ray certification but I do not have the money to go to college and I want to make it my career. I'm aware medical jobs are not the easiest to get but any feedback will be appreciated!!
Pecos Fulfer I would like to know what the work load is on corpsman, and what I mean is will I be taking x-ray all day or a variety of other medical jobs ? I've heard that corpsman do multiple task witch I don't mind but I want as much experience , as I want it to be my career. And lastly do corpsman pick green side or blue side or is it assighned?
Infinite Rumination I'm not in the military, still civilian but I take x-ray through limited scope witch is basic x-rays
Did you ever find any info.?
+JtSuits what's the asvab score needed to guarantee the corpsman rate?
I want to say you have to get 147 on it. I scored a 52 but got the scores in the right area for the job but like he said its hard to even get the job because they are all ways so many people that want it. when I went they didn't have it but I said check one more time and it showed up so even if you get the score there is no guarantee.
Illya Smith what sub-sections did you score high on I got a 52 as well and scored the best on admin and general (air force breaks it down)
Taylor Hobbs Yea I can verify that I scored a 56 on the asvab and I got the rate, the petty officer that administered my contract said that I was actually overqualified for HM.
Christian O what was your line score for HM?
How long are you out on the ship ?? #ASKTJ
His comment about being called a medic or a corpsman is true....I tend to tell people I was a medic just to simplify the fact that many dont know what the fuck a Corpsman is....but its a bit embarrassing to have someone say "Oh your army"? hahahaha 22 years retired
I scored a 279... Guess I'll have to be a grunt
Do Navy corpsman ever work with the Army?
Yes, they go TAD depending on their NEC/MOS.
lol....they work the Devil Dogs........day in and day out.....
I was 8404 8406 corpsmen
crap well as long as I'm in the navy
whats the asvab score to be a corpsman
Juan Jr 50 or higher
I was at the edge then, scored an exact 50
Operational all the way... green/blue... doesn't matter... Hospital Duty is horrible. Politics and bake sales galore... If I could have, I would have stayed oeprational forever.
Hey jt
hey buddyyy
You can no longer pick orders as a corpsman out of A school haha. I'm a corpsman myself
so its just needs of the navy now ?
JTsuits holy shit you replied to me. Yeah they passed it like 4 months ago. Basically only the top three person out of the 100-150 person class can choose orders where they want to go . So basically yeah it's just the needs of the navy . I was the last class that got to choose the orders where we went . Biggest fan my dude
