For refernce, a perfect score for the marines for pullups on the PFT (Physical fitness test) is 8 - 12 for females (depends on age) and 20 - 23 for males (also depends on age)
During covid lockdowns when they closed gyms I started doing push ups throughout the day whenever I would get a glass of water or walk out of my chair when working I would do 25-50 reps depending on how fresh I felt and then get like at least 200 push ups a day. During the lunch breaks and in the evening I would do some random pull up scheme and was able to go between 15-20 strict form slow and controlled no cheating at 100 kg / 225 lbs. Would like to test out for one of those marine tests once since my condition has improved a lot as well since then!
I'm 73. Vietnam vet. I do 4 sets of 10 when I go to the gym as part of my workout. Also jog daily. It's important to keep working your body not just when you are young.
A while back I was with this girl I really liked and we went to a military festival and sort of a date. We had a great time handling the equipment, learning about service, and climbing into vehicles together. The Navy was holding a pull-up contest at the festival and the girl I was with was interested. I was more interested in the other stuff and suggested we keep checking out the area, but she insisted and pulled me over where people were jumping up and repping it out. I think the record was around 20 that day. She jumped up to the bar and couldn't do one without the help of an officer. After she hopped down I told her it was fun and that we should go look around. But she really wanted to see how many I could do. I wasn't too interested, but again, she pulled me toward the bar. However, she thought I was just a skinny white boy and had no idea I was an athlete that grew up doing a whole lot of calisthenics. I finally relented and hopped up and once I started, she and the officers were surprised by how I glided my chest to the bar. We had to count or reps out loud and at around 15 reps, a lot of other people started to take notice and at 20 a small crowd had began forming. When I got to 25, the crowd had grown pretty big and the people had began counting for me. I hit 29 and then fell into a dead hang at the bar. I was pretty fatigued, but the sixty-or-so people in the crowd looked at me with hopeful eyes. Gazing back at them I dramatically called out. "I'm beat. I can't do anymore... but I'm gonna do one more!" And squeezing my lats, my chest made it to the bar and the crowd actually cheered. The girl I was with was wide-eyed. She couldn't believe what had just happened. I couldn't really, either. And of course, the officers swarmed me afterwards. haha This was a super cool experience. I'm really grateful it happened. Seeing these contests almost always makes me think back to that moment.
holy shit bro seeing those girls get so many at the end is so inspiring especially because their upper bodies aren't that big compared to what i would have thought i'd need to get to for that. i hope i can be that strong one day
How about military personnel VS. People doing burgers, rope climbing, behind the neck pull-up up...with 2 people holding a bar above their heads, then someone has to do a behind the neck pull up & then hang from the back of their neck from the bar. Regardless of if someone's on HD or PD & has Type 1 Diabetes. after both have trained and are ready to demonstrate what they are going to do. Including having rules like: * No matter WHAT...Do unto others as you'd have them do unto you!!!
Or people doing Burpees, Rope Climbing w/out using their feet to assist them with climbing up the rope. Having 2 people hold a bar over their heads as someone does a behind the neck pull-up then hangs from the back of their neck. Even though the person has Type 1 Diabetes, ESRD, has done HD & PD.
I’m 205 lbs and can get about 15 pull ups (last PFT but probably more now). I can always get a few less in boots and utes. It adds more weight than you’d think.
Awesome. I' m an Officer Specialist in the German Armed Forces/-Army. I appreciate the Marine Guys and you very (Also all fof your Service Members, Police, EMT, and all First Responders, ...) much. Good Job and maybe I see you on one of my TRAVELS in the US... .
@@en2p187 I’m almost 5’9 idk what you’re doing wrong, but what I did was negatives. Like I’d jump up to the bar, and go down slowly. I’d usually do 12 reps, and 3 to sometimes seven 7 sets. Occasionally I’d do rows also. Right now I do 3 sets of chin-ups, 3 sets of pull-ups, and then 3 sets of neutral pull-ups to failure on each set. So you could try that. Also, pull-ups take time. It took me about 2 months of inconsistent trading to get to 1. I train more consistently now
they all have BAD FORM and didn't do the PULL UPS PROPERLY ! it was horrible watching , ONLY ONE GUY had perfect FORM and was doing the PULL UPS correctly

Not to brag, but I have been doing pull-ups for 40 years. My record is 57 in one set. Now that I am 65 I can only do 53. Still, not bad for an old man.
It was a very long time ago but I'm sure 14 pullups was the male entry into Australian Defence Force, at least when I did it in '97 (I think female was 7) I could be wrong though, it was a lifetime ago.

I need to begin training so I'll eventually be able to do archer pull ups, behind the neck pull-ups then hang from the back of my neck on a pull-up bar. That's either being held up overhead by 2 people or that's not held up by 2 people.
Cheap technique using the rocking. You want to see pure stretch locking out at the bottom and not using momentum. Im surprised as a civilian I can smoke most of them with a purer form.
