To me HE shell is one of the most important, The HE shell can almost penetrate any armor (but Low damage) not like the AP shell OR APCR shell there richochet.
If your tank is a high caliber tank such as 122mm and etc, HE is a good rounds to be loaded on a tank and can deal significant damage to the enemy tank. But when you have 75mm,90, anything that is lower than 100mm, dont bother to use HE unless that target have no armour at all. HE rounds effectiveness is depend on how big your guns is and what tier your tank is. AP is the most ideal rounds as most of the tank use it as the primary ammunition. (WG should be more creative by list it as APHE,APBC,or APFDS depend on a tank)
the 3 caliber rule sick a duck, it means that huge guns like the KV-2 152mm derp can pen the roof of any tank no matter how well it's angled (cuz there's no ricochet)

I am so annoyed I want to learn about projectile penetration but the first 31 videos the RUclips search thinks goes to 3 different video games and of those 24 are World of Tanks, a game I don't even like.
The is bullshit for kids (the game) nothing works exact in this game, for example i used T30 american TD on enemy Grille 15 german TD so i load HE amo couse it says it has 90 mm penetration power and do 700-1100 dmg and we know Grille has 30 mm max front armour. so i took the shoot direct frontal hit and did 300 dmg. And this is not the only exemple there is also RNG that makes you miss even from 4-5 m the sheel goes in to the ground or above the enemy even when you aim perfect. And premium tanks OP, and ....and ....and... this never end. The game is not fun it will make you nervous.
BeatMan You missed the grille and splashed most likely. For the RNG part, you can’t miss that close unless you didn’t aim or are using a KV2 or something like the KV2.
