JESSEM MAST-R-LIFT II ROUTER LIFT INSTALL // WOODWORKING // HOW TO // DIY

- In this video I am replacing my old router lift and plate with a brand new JessEm Mast-R-Lift II router lift. The old lift had many issues and the plate was cheaply made. Since the directions only came with how to install the lift into a Jessem router table, I thought it would be helpful for others out there who might be interested in this lift. Or installing any other lift for that matter!

I always judge a woodworker by how many clamps they have. You sir have my respect.
LOL if only! Thanks man
Good video and I appreciate the tip about cutting melamine 1/8-inch on each side to prevent tear out.
Glad it helped!
You’re a woodworking wizard 🙌🏼 The melamine trick is one I’m saving for sure and the router table looks 👌🏼
Thank you TK! I really appreciate your support! As always!
Always score your material. Applying painters tape or anything of that nature also helps. Great job, and awesome shop.
Great Job! Looks WAY better than my first video 😂👍🏻
Thanks JD! Hopefully I can keep them getting better!
That melamine tip is a slick one! I paused the video to leave this comment, now I’m gonna press play for some more insight
Awesome! Glad it could help! Thank you for watching!

Great video Mike and that router lift is 🔥🔥🔥! Look forward to the next video man!
Thank you Shane! It should be out next Thursday. i'll put it together this weekend.
Great video. Really enjoy your no-nonsense approach.
Thanks so much!
Lots of great info in here. I love how you made the lip for the plate to sit in. Look forward to more content
Thank you, Scott I will get more out as fast as I can!
Hey Mike, I found the tip of adding the scrap plywood as a template brilliant! Saved me tons of time and frustration. Thanks for sharing.
That's awesome! When I first figured it out I kind of had a eureka moment. I've used it a lot since then. Glad it helped!
Best video out there. Used your tip about the double sided tape and worked like a charm. Thanks
I'm glad I could help!
Another awesome video, Brother! Great instructions and tips and tricks
Thanks bro! Thanks for the push to get on here!
Brilliant jig. Simplicity itself. Bravo
Thank you. There's no reason to overcomplicate things!
Awesome router lift man!
Thanks Bao! It really is great! I love that things.

Great job Mike on the lift table and the first video!
That you, Mike!
Thats a great Router lift. I really should upgrade mine too. This got me inspired. Nice work brother!
Thank you, Pete! You're a great friend dude!
Nicely done video, Mike - succinct and to the point.
Thanks for watching! Greatly appreciated.
i bought the same lift but mine has 3/4” radius corners on it.
when they t cones to installing these lifts, it would be much much easier if JessEm made the top with a 1/4” radius because everyone has 1/2” diameter router bits.
the method you used by temporarily attacking boards around the edges and using a 1/2” diameter bit is a no-brainer.
i don’t understand why they make it difficult for us sometimes.
i have to say that the JessEm lift is really high quality.
Definitely a great lift!
Found you from mountainsideworkshop! Glad he posted. Look forward to following you and your RUclips videos! Thanks for the cool ideas!
Awesome! Shane is the man! I will do my best to make this channel fun and helpful! Thank you for the sub!
Great video, Mike! Also good tip on cutting the melamine.
Thanks bro! It honestly works great! I like the painters tape method but this is just faster. And cheaper. Like me.
@@CoffeyCustomBuilds Have to agree, this was a great little tip thrown in!
Clean edits bud!! Digging this set up, this is something I want to do soon
Thanks Tyler! Reach out if you need any help for sure!
Great video & editing Mike🔥❗️
Thanks Greg!! I appreciate the kind words man!
Great video and this will help when I get my lift kit for my bench. I have signed up and am following you on all media. Keep up the great work.
Wow you are awesome! Thank you for the support!
I hit that subscribe button, keep up the awesome work bud!
You are the man James!! Thank you!
Great info man! I'll have to look into it.
You wont be disappointed!
Clever how you made a template. Good thinking 👍
Sometimes I'm not as dumb as other times. Thanks Radek!
Great info bro!
Thanks for watching man!
Dude this video is epic. Great editing 👌 love that lift too. I thought I commented on this already but don’t see my comment, weird
It's hard to comment before you watch it lol thanks bro!
Nice and detailed video! What I don't understand is the purpose of the screw on the router tightening mechanism. What for it is being used and when it should be readjusted (you have done that in your video at 4:53). Thank you, stay safe!
That screw helps tighten the clamps around the body of the router as far as I remember. It's almost been a year.
@@CoffeyCustomBuilds You're right. Looks like it does not allow clamps to become loose.
Looks great! Definitely could have used that Melamine advice about a year ago.
It's a good tip! Quicker and cheaper than the painters tape trick!
This is exactly what I've been looking for! What was that pin that you had in the test run at the end that was next to the router bit. Some sort of guide pin?
Its a starter pin. A safety feature.
Am fed up with my benchtop router table, adjustability is horrible. So I've already decided I want the Master lift 2, but the full table /lift/fence combo is a wallet buster.
But if I can buy a sheet of melamine and just the lift/fence it starts looking much more affordable.
My only concern is the adjustment screws going directly into the routed out melamine? Are these going to hold adjustment?
Also liked your method for measuring/cutting the mounting hole, great idea. New sub!
Thanks for the sub! And you can certainly make your own table.
Nice vid. I just ordered the mast r lift II as well. My table top was originally set for the rocker 8 1/4 plate but the mast r lift is a 9 1/4 plate so I need to make my opening bigger. I noticed that the Mast R Lift has 10 leveling screws. I didn't see you place anything in the lip for the leveling screws. Did you not do that or forgot to add it to the video?
I didn't do it.
What you didn't buy the 50.00 template? Made your own better yet nice job.
🤣🤣
Thank you for your video! How did you know to use a 1/2 bit to match the rounded corners? I want to make sure I have the right bit for the lesser priced Jessem before I buy it. Thanks!
I held the bit to the corner to match the diameter.
@@CoffeyCustomBuilds thank you!
Does this make it harder to change bits?
Thanks. Can you share the size of the router table top? It seems like a great size!
Absolutely. I made this 18"x36"
Thanks for this video - getting ready to pull the trigger on this lift myself! Question for you? Can the plate handle a large raised panel bit? What is the diameter of the opening without a ring insert? Thanks!
Thank you for watching. The opening without the plate is 3-9/16". For what it's worth I love this lift and am very happy with it.
Cool
Thanks!
Nice video. Where did you get that power switch that you've attached to it?
I'm almost certain I got that from Amazon. Here's the link: amzn.to/3ilAFwN
Thanks for the instructions, do you care about the gap you have in the corners from using that 1/2" template bit?
Nope. I didn't want to buy the bit for it especially since this isn't the final home of this lift. I will be building this into the wing of my table saw some time this year. Also, it has cause exactly zero issues with the gap. It's purely cosmetic.
Coffey Custom Builds Great video! When are you doing the table saw insert video? I have a Jessem lift and once I have some time, I will be building the router table insert on my Rigid TS3650. Still deciding on surface material....leaning toward Baltic Birch, but the melamine surface you made here has me intrigued. How did you avoid chip out on the router cutout? Also, on your insert build, how will you tackle the 1 1/2 “ round edges of the lift for a snug look? Thanks for your time.
Did you install leveling screws or some other method?
I put bots underneath.
Great video! How did you decide to do a 1/2" lip to hold the plate? Would you do it wider if you had it do to over? Thanks!
I only had this for about a year but I never had an issue.
@@CoffeyCustomBuilds did you replace this with another lift brand?
Looks awesome, just curious why you went with a jessum over a different brand? I’ve been looking at a few and just can’t seem to make up my mind.
I did a bunch of research and just felt like the general consensus was that it was the best. I can't speak to that as I haven't tried all the rest but after two weeks I can say that I am very happy with my decision.
Jessem invented the router lift, they are Canadian made, solidly built, and just look beautiful!
Thank you for the video, I have a question. You didn't show the fit at the corners, how did you know what bit to use and that it would match the contour of the corners?
The fit in the corners wasn't perfect. The information exists online and I don't remember what size bit you need to obtain the perfect fit. However, it hasn't been an issue for me. There is a small amount of sawdust in there but it's not a big deal. The bit I would have needed to make it perfect would have been $20. I decided to forgo that and haven't regretted it.
The lift’s plate has about a 3/4” radius at the corners. You could start forming the inset with a 1-1/2” Forstner bit at each corner, down to the depth of the plate plus the 1/16” leveling gap at the bottom. Then complete the edges of the inset with the flush-trim router bit as in this video.
Or you can buy JessEm’s MDF template that has the corner curves in it. An extra $30 or so, but a real time saver.
that's a great solution!
Coffey Custom Builds Mike, you need a 3/4” OD guide bushing and a 1/2” flush-trim bit to use the JessEm template, because it has a 1/8” clearance all around.
Or a steady hand with a big Forstner bit, unless you have a deep drill press.
@@b1j thank you for the info, but the template is out of stock and I want to make my own. I'm trying to figure that now. thanks again.
What type of material is the table top and where do you buy it? I've been looking into quality plywood or kitchen counter top
It's melamine. You can get it from most home centers.
I came to downvote, but this video was too awesome. Next time sir...
I'm glad I was able to keep you from your base impulses lol Thanks Hung!
How did you match the radius of the larger corners of the lift with a 1/2” flush pattern bit?
I didn't. It wasn't an exact fit. But the gap was never an issue.
Does the Jess'em lift work with any router? I have a Ryobi corded router.
I don't know the entire list of compatible routers but their website will surely have it.
Good video. Your music makes it distracting to hear what you are saying in the introduction and conclusion.
Sorry about that. This is one of my first videos. I hadn't figured out how to properly edit these things.
Try just scoring the bottom of your melamine, then just raise blade and cut through. The top won't blow out because it is backed up by itself. The bottom is not.
Nice
Thanks for the video but trying to hear you over your music is dismal
Yeah it was one of my early videos. I was still learning how to edit. Sorry about that.
Great job and sweet editing Mike! Love the, on edge, diagonal, S M O O T H drop.
Thank you, Bob! If you haven't already it would really help if you subscribe.
