We bought 100 shares of NCL in April 2020 for $8.40 per share. Used the benefit for the first time in Feb 2022 ($100 OBC) and will use it again in September. Definitely working for us!

Carnival doesn't pay stockholder OBC if you use a rate code to book your cruise. You know, those rate codes they advertise their fares at on their website as lowest price. So beware, unless you pay double what they advertise their fares at (essentially) they won't pay out.

For Carnival, you must own 100 shares of the stock for at least 30 days before the benefit kicks in. I’ve never seen it this cheap.

The stock market is concerned Carnival may not be able to make some interest payments and may have to raise more money (or declare bankruptcy for restructuring which makes the stock worth zero).

Tony- You should mention the Veterans benefit with Princess. If you are a Vet, active duty or other service, you are able to get up to $250 OBC on longer cruises. You need to submit a copy of your DD-214 to Princess. They also have a Vets gathering onboard on most cruises. Note: This is in addition to the stock benefit!

Thanks Tony, I've been using the stock discount for years on Carnival. I usually buy at least 100 sometimes more 100 lots, then just sell a covered calls against it this way if the stock goes down well I still make something off it. example buy 100 shares at $10 each = $1k sell a covered call at $10.50, if stock goes to $10.50 or higher well i keep the money from the covered call on it and I lose my shares (with a 50c profit ie $50 profit + what I sold the covered call for) and I get the $250 onboard credit. To lose value the stock would have to drop more then below $7.50 as keep money on the covered call even if stock goes down and retain the stock. And if the stock drops like that while on the cruise I still sell the stock at a loss which goes into capital gains losses for taxes later but I still came out a head in value with the onboard credit.

Thank you for addressing this, Tony! I bought RCL after COVID, and even with today’s price drop I have made a profit of $880 from price appreciation, but have earned (and spent) $1,150 in OBC. Needless to say I am happy with my investment, even in the current market environment.

How many cruises did you take to earn that much onboard credit because for years it is only been $250 max on board credit you can get from being a shareholder on any cruise line with carnival Corporation. I would like to know where you got your total amount?

    • @sirborisdumpling6161
      @sirborisdumpling6161 2 года назад

@@francoisedunne223 I guess 5 + cruises would earn the $1150 or am I being a bit daft. Over here in the UK, you can get onboard credit with these lines just by booking via a Travel Agent or Cruise line. We have £400 or approx $500 on P&O's Iona (part of Carnival) later this year. We are not shareholders. Also by booking onboard Princess with just a deposit against any cruise you choose you get onboard credit.

@@sirborisdumpling6161 Nailed it! We’ve been making up for lost time since cruising restarted. Nine 7 to 9-day sailings plus one 15-night sailing netted us the $1,150. Sailings were on both Celebrity and Royal Caribbean.

Hi Tony …last Thanksgiving we decided to treat ourselves … early Christmas gift….and buy 100 stocks of carnival stocks at that time it was $19 and everybody told us!! wow !! that is the lowest it has been for years. So we decided to scrape our money together and go for it. We have taken 3 cruises since we bought the stocks and we really appreciate the onboard credit … $250 max… (14 day per cruises)my husband is also a military retired veteran and we can also use that obc (Princess only !!)also so we have a win-win on our cruises and since we are sticking only with Carnival Cruise Corporate ships … Princess… Holland… carnival…we are doing good so far. Wished we would’ve had the money years ago but as seniors you don’t have a lot of money in your account to do excess with !!!! but taking 35+ cruises it really could’ve mounted up if we could’ve done it years ago. But there are a lot of new rules and stipulations coming out of carnival corporate…Watch for it where they are going to really limit the stockholders onboard credit option with the price $$$$ of your cruise! You heard it from me well in advance. A little birdie told me.

I own Carnival, RCCL, and NCL stocks. I use the stock benefit on each cruise. The cruise counts, however on a cruise tour only the time on the ship counts. On a 15 day cruise tour only the 7 day cruise counts, buf I am grateful for the $100.00. Just sending off my paperwork for my next three princess bookings.
I believe you are right about the comeback. Cruise stock is definitely a buy, hold, and forget about it buy. Don't expect to big jump in stock price any time soon.

I have had CC stock for a couple years. I bought it early in the pandemic at is bottom. I'm in it right, I probably won't ever sale it. I believe the benefit is better than most dividends. (Plus, I believe it gets you onboard cash on princess cruise and possibly others in the Carnival Corporation family of cruise lines?¿? ) I was finally able to use this benefit on our last cruise. Every $100 bill counts.

It should be noted that you can't wake up the day of your cruise and decide to buy the stock to get onboard credit. If I'm not mistaken there's an approval process on the cruise line's part that you have to complete well in advance. Plan accordingly.

I purchased Carnival stock during the shutdown @ around $8. However, I have booked or cruised 10 times since then and my cruise rate NEVER qualifies for this discount. The rates that I usually get are for either returning customer or 55 + yrs old. They are still in the thousands for a 7 days cruise but do not qualify for the stock holder credit. Hoping the stock goes back up, I will sell and get my money back.

Back during the last "stock market crash" in 2008-2009 (trying to remember the year), RCL dipped down to less than 6.00 a share then slowly rebounded hitting a high near 150.00 a share. Items of comfort/luxury often rebound after tough financial times like these, once people start being able to afford the basics again. I am by no means one to give stock advice, just a guy that watches the numbers over the years and sees this pattern repeat itself. Just my two cents. :)

We purchased our first cruise stocks in 2011 and we now own CCL, RCCL, & NCL. We have cruised 42 times since then and received the OBC from Carnival 100% of the time, about 50 - 60% of the time on RCCL, and never on NCL. NCL has always said that it is not combine-able with other offers and RCCL says the same thing when they turn us down. Both CCL and RCCL paid good dividends until the pandemic so that was even more of a bonus. Over those years RCCL has done the best.

Found this tip last year and bought stock at a great low rate. Going to long term hold and the OBC is a great perk. Requested the credit for a comped casino cruise and thats when I found out you dont get it for those cruises. So sad but I get it. Have two 14 day cruises next year and the OBC will pay for some of my excursions. If you cruise even once a year it is a great deal to buy stock right now.

Tony is providing great info on here!!! We’ve saved thousands with shareholder credit on Carnival, Holland, and Princess over the years, along with veterans credit. We own more than the 100 shares required mostly purchased at $8 and $10. We’re looking down the road. Note that with Carnival casino comps, you will not get the credit, which is fair enough. We’re in a Heathrow hotel today and took the EMed Binax test last evening for our 4 Dover b2bs starting Sunday. We didn’t get the shareholder credit as these are all Casio rates. My DW will, however, make a yet to be determined donation through the slots 🎰. Back to the stock, CCL has been in the 60’s, and will return - hopefully before I die!

I'm still annoyed at myself that I forgot to take advantage of my stock for my last Carnival cruise. Don't rely on your travel agents to remember, folks. Add it to your check list!
At this point if I cashed out my Carnival stock, I would take a little bit of a loss. I don't plan to cash it out for a long, long time, though. I prefer when it's up (obviously) but as long as it never goes to zero (zero is highly unlikely), I'll be fine.

We bought 100 Carnival shares in 2016 and have cruised 2 x yearly for 14 nights each time. We always got $250 obc and did get a small dividend every 3 months until the pandemic when it stopped. However we bought our shares at the top price so they are worth much much less to us now. But if we continue to cruise twice yearly we are still recouping some of the money back and hopefully in time, a long long time, I think, we may get a decent amount back when we sell. We are in the UK and occasionally sail with P&O and we get £150 per 14 day sailing.

Carnival is a crazy good deal right now and even though we already have 100 shares of all three cruise lines - tempted to buy more of Carnival as this crazy stuff will eventually pass and cruise line shares will eventually bounce back in price. Bought Disney when they dropped last year even though they dropped their stock benefits - but that hurt as even at reduced prices - they were costly! We’re in it for the long term or will be the kids inheritance lol In the meantime - we’ve recouped our investment in aOBC - just like you said. Great advice! Great explanation!

I own NCLH (NCL) stock and comsider it a safe investment since I cruise a lot. I get onboard credit each cruise and only have a few more cruises left before my initial investment is repaid with onboard credit. That means that when I decide to sell the stock it's all profit regardless of the stock value when I sell, other than that I plan to sell anytime soon.

I'm not sure of Royal Caribbean's and Norwegian's policies, but Carnival only gives the onboard credit per cabin (as you stated). This means if both people in the cabin own stock, only one individual gets the onboard credit. I've resisted buying stock because my traveling companion already gets the benefit. But with you driving down the stock value, I may think again.

Great informative video...the only way you get the obc is to summit a statement 3months in advance of sailing...I found that out from my vp with Carnival...I never knew about this...thanks for sharing...

Yes I own Carnival stock and I get my OBC on each Holland America and Princess cruise. I almost have recouped my investment. Unfortunately the Carnival stock has not been paying dividends at least since the pandemic.

We bought 100 shares of Carnival during the pandemic when it was in the $8 range. We have used it twice so far. Would love to get some Royal. A little reluctant right now with the way the economy is going. :(

Caveat emptor # 3. Tony mentioned owning stock but not which one. You probably want to mention which stocks you are long on so as to not get into any issues with the SEC. Any time I've watched someone talking stocks, they've always mentioned if there was any kind of conflict of interest.
And agree wholeheartedly. At these price points, buy stock of your favorite cruise ship line. Buy 100 shares of Carnival for example at $8.84 or $884. Go on two cruises and get $200 back and then sell the stock in two years for a profit.

Thanks for the reminder that it's down. I already have 100, 50 that I bought March 2020 around $10, and then the rest bought around $20 because I had a cruise coming up and wanted to use the OBC. Just bought 100 more though. Because I believe it will get back to its pre-pandemic level of around $40 at some point.

Buying 100 shares of Carnival stock is tempting. If you cruised a lot you would recoup your money at some point whether the stock went up in value or not. Looks like its currently nearing its pandemic lows so it would be a good time to get in.

Most cruisers that use this perk sell the stock as soon as they can. I generally buy 100 shares one day before my monthly stock trading account statement comes out. The statement is what the cruise lines generally want to see. Then I sell the stock the day after the account closes for the month so I only own the stock for 2 days. Generally I can put in a selling price for more than I bought the stock for and sometime in the next 5 days the stock price will bounce around enough so the stock sells.

I just bought my 100 shares a few days ago and it's gone down. I know they will go up again in a few years. I am excited, this is the first time I have invested!!
