I'm currently a student for a surgical tech course in the Army and they taught us not have any part of our body hover over the sterile field because of microbial contamination. Is it different in the civilian side? You opened a peel pack right over.

Thank you for your videos. I'm over 70 now. I have had no operations at all before 2017. In 2017 and the first month of 2018 I had to have a total of 7 operations , mostly with general anesthesia. I have been curious to learn what was going on when I was unable to see and learn because of the anesthesia. Now you show me all that was happening around me when I was being operated on. That's a great deal.
Love your channel. After 22yrs in another nursing specialty, I'm now in the OR and in the PeriOp 101 course and we have a huge portion of the course as scrub nurse and these videos have made me so much more confident. Will be scrubbing neurosurgery this coming week. Thanks again.
I really love that your unscrubbed (not sure position) person mentioned something on the fly- it is really they way an operating room should be and shows the way communication goes! Wonderful demo!
I'm a medical device reprocessor and we sometimes have to help set up for surgeries too and I find we have some very similar but also different techniques. Even as a surgical processor I have to follow such sterile techniques, even when people think all I am is a surgical dishwasher 🙄 Love your videos!!
I had absolutely no idea there was so much to all this. Not in the medical field but this is really great stuff! I've subscribed. You deserve a cigar :D
I am starting my 2nd week of clinicals and my 1st week was terrifying. My very first case was 6.5 hours with a surgeon that did not like students so suffice to say it was a difficult first week. Watching this video before hand definently helped me from making dumb mistakes when setting up. Thank you
Being somewhat of a new CP Tech (3.5 yrs or so), and having picked case carts and having put together surgical sets, it’s really awesome to see how they are put to use and how the back table in an OR room is set up. I’m loving this channel and very much appreciate the information and education. You’re Awesome! Love Love Love the Sugical Tech. tips!
My heart is filled with gratitude as I'm sharing my testimony to the entire universe on how herbal doctor oduntun cured me from diabetes I suffered it right from my adolescent stage for years I often see symptoms in my private area nd lips, anytime I use acyclovir drugs it will go away then return some months later. it was disheartening since i have been diagnosed but after finding herbalist oduntun and his reviews on instagram @herbalist_oduntun i was convinced that he meant be of great help to me so I contacted him to know more about his herbal products and how I can get it delivered to me here in Tajikistan, He then said that he will deliver the herbal package to me through the ups delivery service with the address I will provide that is after preparing the medication with the roots and herbs ingredients he will purchase from the traditional market, so I keep faith believing that I can be cured completely with what comes from nature since it herbal medicine i took the risk and pay him the amount he requested to get the ingredients he started preparation as soon as I send him the money and submit my home address for the delivery today I'm so happy sharing this to the world 🌍 I'm Isabella From Tajikistan (Centre Asia ) for more information on how to get in touch with herbal doctor oduntun you can reach him on What'sApp:+2349039463501 or his(email:herbalistoduntun@gmail.com) ruclips.net/channel/UCIbszSZ7toF2YpQSaU5U18Q I'm a living testimony stay safe and stay bless🙏🏼
Your technique is fine. The guy critisizing you is one of those know it all scrubs. Every hospital has one. And they usually are limited in scope to gyn cases or general and most docs dislike them and the have no idea. Keep up the good work.
It's just training and practice,it's good learning all the different specialities, also bear in mind different hospitals do things very differently, can be confusing doing agency cus they look at you as if you're wierd cus you do it differently to them, also bear in mind theatre is a very tense, stressful place and a lot of bullying goes on!! Unbelievable but true !!!
This is badass I’m a 68D in the army and we do the laparotomy set for setting up the back table and it’s very enjoyable and interesting because the job is never boring
I have recently been watching ALOT of basic set up and sterile technique videos and hands DOWN, these videos are not only very informative but its also his cool disposition and ability to communicate this so awesomely! I am looking to use my surgical Technology Degree 4 years post grad, never have worked in an OR and want to try to reenter the field and it's very scary. As we know, as students these basic fundamentals are pushed in your brain but with a job where you have so many responsibilities and skills needed to know and remember it's overwhelming but with his help, I know and remember more than I had thought. Props for giving me back my confidence! You rule!!
Thanks alot! I'm going to start working soon. I haven't worked since I graduated 3 years ago, so I'm a bit nervous I have forgotten some things. This helps alot!
Your vids are awesome. They are simple and accurate and help this newbie reinforce what I've seen (or SHOULD see 🤔) in the OR so far. I take my cert exam a week from today! (7/11😱)
I am going to work in an emergency hospital in the operating room. thanks for the presentation, you're cool and I can see that you enjoy your work! God help!
You may not realize it or know it, but these videos are super helpful for us lay folks who don't get to observe all that goes on in the operating room. Even more beneficial is the fact that I'm totally blind, and I really appreciate how well you describe everything. I've been blind since birth, so it's no problem for me, but when people tell me that I don't need to know all these facts and such, that really bothers me. I understand that there are things that are better unseen, but when it comes to life saving surgeries and procedures, I think that spiritual vision is a absolute must! Keep up what you're doing, and thank you for all these videos. I'm still listening up for the anesthesiology machine. (Yes, I hear what I'm typing right now, and I use text-to-speech software called JAWS that reads all unimbedded text onscreen. Any depicted text inside a video is off limits, but Vispero is working very hard on developing more technology that'll hopefully make it possible to know more about pictures. Emojis are great, and some of them are downright hillarious! (winking face)
When I have students I always tell them KPRC, at Houston tx; it is known as channel 2 news, a lot of ppl know the channel. So what I tell them K stands for Knife( most of the time, ) after making an incision, I ask my students what happens when you cut yourself... you bleed. So I tell them usually they Drs use the bovie with Pickups. Which is P, afterwards after dissecting down they may need Retractors, which is R, keep going down might be a bleeder, or something they need to suture or something they need to cut or Clamp, which is C, C stands for all the instruments on the stringer ( from mosquitos to the large needle holder and scissors) it also helps to teach what kind of instrumentation needed for different cases. I get previous students tell me they use KPRC on cases they don't know much about but it helps to know what to expect. (seems like they know the body) That's why I am always hard on students on anatomy because you have to know "where" they are operating on so they can be better prepared._
Great job scrub. Keep them coming, short, very detailed, and straight to the point.... I did want to see how you opened up that big ass ruler onto the sterile field..😉😉😉👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻
Its nice to be able to set up the basic pack stuff first. The hospital I did clinicals at wanted you to grab the instrument trays first before doing anything just in case they had to one tray. It made it really difficult to arrange a back table when its full of trays.
I start my OR theories and practices classes tomorrow. Now that all the pre-reqs are done, stuff is getting real and I am so freaking nervous! Wish I would have found your channel sooner! These videos are going to be a big help

First thing you do before picking up any sterilized instrument sets or consignments is to make sure that the indicator is visible on top and that it met the sterilization process. Filters and checking hole in wraps are secondary.

Amazing videos, thanks so much for posting them, I just wish I'd found these when I was struggling with my new job in the hospital, these would have helped immensely, but I'm revising, revising and not giving up because I'm going to try again one day, I really wish their would be a series with your videos on Netflix, would be great. It’s mind boggling how differently things are being done in Australia. For example our surgical techs are actually scrub nurses and everyone is pro turning around to fasten the gown.. you don’t actually go to a teching school you become a nurse and learn surgical teching on the job. You learn the instruments and how they relate to the anatomy and what the surgeon is doing on the job. Which is tricky as sometimes your surgeon won’t be as talkative or the nurse won’t tell you much in detail so how do we even learn properly?
Have worked as an EMS First Responder, however, after transferring to our CCT division, we transport many of our patients to surgery and for procedures, such as Cardiac Caths, Head Trauma, etc. The very first thing the surgical staff taught us, was to be aware of the presence of the Sterile Field(s), and NOT to touch them...and for Heaven's sake, do NOT sneeze on them, either! Thanks again 🚑
Sir your simplicity is admirable and the way you teach is v.osm and your concepts are crystal clear,l wish if have a person like you who teaches me like this way then l will always respect him and consider him even greater than me. Lots of love and respect for you 💝 One question sir what should l do after graduating as surgical technologist.. waiting for your response..
The only thing that I see you forgot to do was put your goggles on before you did your surgical scrub. They were on your head but not “ready” for surgery. Other than that, it is helpful for me because I just started school this summer. I actually watched your videos when I was researching ST as a possible career change! Can’t wait to go through skills check off!
Hi! Can you do a video of you strictly just opening stuff onto the sterile field (gloves, suture, gauze, etc)? I’m a new OR circulator nurse and I’m struggling with opening stuff onto the sterile field . TIA
Pearl of wisdom, always count your instruments before case. Circulator may say it's not an open belly or it's all percutaneous, I always count to ensure that the set came to the or complete. If I discovered and have found discrepancies I let the circulator know about it. Central sterile might claim to you about missing instruments, but you're covered you and the nurse aware.
Great videos. Lots of good info. Bummer we didn't get to see your co-worker throw that Ioban on the table. Maybe another video on difficult, heavy, tricky and awkward items being thrown on the field. Thanks!!
Opening up big items like that are not for the internet. I get shitty comments already about my technique from other videos. Can't imagine the backlash i would get doing a video opening awkward items lol.
Just know, don't be afraid to wait till you scrub in and have you nurse hand you an item instead of trying to fumble it onto the table. Some of those items are COSTLY.
nice video, but why all that table space?, can you do a video on what the layout of this is, why you have all the trolleys around, what they are for, as in your "tray" videos this looks like a fairly compact 'toolbox' and doesn't take a lot of space. a video on some of the more complex machinary would be good too, aka drills, cameras, and specialist equipment for different surgeries.
When setting up a case, how far in advance do you start setting up? When do you load your knife blades? You need at least one ready to go at the outset, right? When do you load needle holders? I know that instrument trays are set up according to count sheets, but generally speaking, what is on the count sheet? What I mean is, is the count sheet just what is needed for the case or are there also "extra" items that may be needed during the case?
+Stephanie Lake on average 30min before a case starts. I load knife blades after I do the initial count. I usually don't pre-load needle holders unless I know I won't have time to do it during the case. Everything that is in an instrument tray is on the count sheet, nothing less, nothing more. If more instruments "peel packs" are added during the procedure, the nurse will write down on the sheet what has been added.
Excellent video, very interesting. But it bothers me the table is placed directly in front of a circuit breaker panel. 36" minimum distance!!! Also, your items seem to be pre-packaged wrapped in a lighter blue cloth. What happens to those lighter blue colored cloths at the end of the day?
I guess that depends on how early you scrub, if you have a lot of instruments to prepare, it's always best if you scrub early, but for minor cases, you can scrub once the patient is in the theater, so while the anesthesiologist is putting the patient under and intubating the patient, that gives you time to scrub and prepare your sterile field. In the hospital I work in, the scrub nurse normally scrubs a good 15 to 20 minutes before a major case starts, so that gives them ample time to prepare their sterile field. Hope this helps :)
Hi I'm a surg tech student, and II have a question. What is the reason you only move equipment on the table once? Is it to prevent contamination? but the field is already sterile...
As a surg tech in school, I appreciate these videos so much. They are great tools for me and allow for the visual I need to understand it all.
I was thinking about this career but I dont think I would do well in such a stressful environment 😔
I just finished binge watching all of your videos! I discovered your channel by mistake, but I do not regret it at all! Amazing content :D
+Ella Havia haha, thanks for joining the STT fam 😉
Glad to be here :)!
I'm currently a student for a surgical tech course in the Army and they taught us not have any part of our body hover over the sterile field because of microbial contamination. Is it different in the civilian side? You opened a peel pack right over.
Me too
Patrick C you read my mind...
Love how you guys can open the packages and get the contents on the table so smoothly. Im assuming that it takes a bit of practice.
I’m training as a CST now and trust me it does you get a flair for it lol at first you’re scared then suddenly after practicing and practicing, without noticing it you just do it like it’s nothing it’s amazing.
it is on time_lapse at probbably 10X speed!!
I just starting working in the OR last month and omg the fear i get sometimes opening things is insane but with practice it becomes muscle memory
Wow this is so helpful! I start school in 1 week 😅
Update! Today we learned how to scrub in and gown and glove.. it’s harder than it looks!! Lol
princesa jacinda which classes are you taking?
Jauk Dijero I’m now in my clinical rotations
You like it
im a year late.... how do you like it?
So are you on the field now? How is it

Completely agree! I am a new OR nurse, about to start scrubbing in, and these have helped me prepare! Thanks so much!

Fascinating look at OR procedures for somebody that faints at the sight of blood and can't spell suture........well done.........
I absolutely love watching someone setting up a sterile field (the proper way)! I guess I’m a nerd? Loved the video as always!😎

My heart is filled with gratitude as I'm sharing my testimony to the entire universe on how herbal doctor oduntun cured me from diabetes I suffered it right from my adolescent stage for years I often see symptoms in my private area nd lips, anytime I use acyclovir drugs it will go away then return some months later. it was disheartening since i have been diagnosed but after finding herbalist oduntun and his reviews on instagram @herbalist_oduntun i was convinced that he meant be of great help to me so I contacted him to know more about his herbal products and how I can get it delivered to me here in Tajikistan,
He then said that he will deliver the herbal package to me through the ups delivery service with the address I will provide that is after preparing the medication with the roots and herbs ingredients he will purchase from the traditional market, so I keep faith believing that I can be cured completely with what comes from nature since it herbal medicine i took the risk and pay him the amount he requested to get the ingredients he started preparation as soon as I send him the money and submit my home address for the delivery today I'm so happy sharing this to the world 🌍 I'm Isabella From Tajikistan (Centre Asia ) for more information on how to get in touch with herbal doctor oduntun you can reach him on What'sApp:+2349039463501 or his(email:herbalistoduntun@gmail.com) I'm a living testimony stay safe and stay bless🙏🏼

Wow Thank you for all you do in the Medical field, very interesting.😷😷
You should go over different things like meanings of different things in the surgical field
Everyone has used enough to wear a response to hospital for people to issue of external hard drive for Africa is America it's not exactly a good day
Amazing videos, thanks so much for posting them, I just wish I'd found these when I was struggling with my new job in the hospital, these would have helped immensely, but I'm revising, revising and not giving up because I'm going to try again one day, I really wish their would be a series with your videos on Netflix, would be great. Thank you, be safe. :.)

Excellent help for us beginners 🙏🙏thank you much🙏
It’s mind boggling how differently things are being done in Australia.
Thank you I have enjoyed your videos and get to learn more
Sir your simplicity is admirable and the way you teach is v.osm and your concepts are crystal clear,l wish if have a person like you who teaches me like this way then l will always respect him and consider him even greater than me. Lots of love and respect for you 💝
One question sir what should l do after graduating as surgical technologist.. waiting for your response..
Excellent job, thanks for sharethis videos ,I would like to watch a Neurosurgery instruments thanks a lot.
Hi! Can you do a video of you strictly just opening stuff onto the sterile field (gloves, suture, gauze, etc)? I’m a new OR circulator nurse and I’m struggling with opening stuff onto the sterile field . TIA
Great video Shane!! Thank you!! We are learning this right now in m y program, so this is VERY helpful!!! ~Amy
Thank you! This is so helpful.
Thank you for the sharing, it's amazing educational material. Subscribed.
I start you would setting up in the OR so you don’t contaminate everything before they get to the OR
I like the new colorful intro - very professional.
Do you mean the logo? If so, thanks!
As a theater assistant in training I learn more
nice video, but why all that table space?, can you do a video on what the layout of this is, why you have all the trolleys around, what they are for, as in your "tray" videos this looks like a fairly compact 'toolbox' and doesn't take a lot of space. a video on some of the more complex machinary would be good too, aka drills, cameras, and specialist equipment for different surgeries.
Wait... On minute 7:30, could you show us how is the saline set up? Was that a Yankauer cannula inserted in the bag??
Can you do an overview of the surgery lights please 🥰😷
Thank you abundantly!
Good guy.i enjoy all your videos
If more instruments "peel packs" are added during the procedure, the nurse will write down on the sheet what has been added.
thank you so much for great teach and awesome tips
How much time do you have or how early do you start before the rest of the team comes in and even the patient
How much time do you get to set up your table before surgeon and patient comes in
I guess that depends on how early you scrub, if you have a lot of instruments to prepare, it's always best if you scrub early, but for minor cases, you can scrub once the patient is in the theater, so while the anesthesiologist is putting the patient under and intubating the patient, that gives you time to scrub and prepare your sterile field. In the hospital I work in, the scrub nurse normally scrubs a good 15 to 20 minutes before a major case starts, so that gives them ample time to prepare their sterile field. Hope this helps :)
Thank you so much for this video, i have benefited a lot.
great vid man thanks for the set up walk through...iam watch like 10x i kind u not. Tell Steve great job!!
Lol, ill let him know 😜
Awesome! Can you do a robotic hernia repair setup?
Thanks for the video. Loved it
Gotta say__well done! Mooove and clean!
Hi I'm a surg tech student, and II have a question. What is the reason you only move equipment on the table once? Is it to prevent contamination? but the field is already sterile...
your videos are amazing
You just saved my ass! General Surgery exam tomorrow!!!
