THANK YOU. Finally someone else found the ASMR value in William Devane's scenes in PAYBACK. His voice is sublime. His gestures and movements are so efficient and smooth and soothing. I'm so seriously amazed and happy that someone put this up.
I was thinking the exact same thing! Great perspective :) Devane sets the mood of power and wisdom, and frightening heavy duty violence, all while talking softly. Unbelievable. What a treat finding this clip. You know, there is another who can do this...Powers Boothe. See him try to outsmart Matthew McConaughey in "Frailty". Great post eromacque :)
Now I loved Devane in knots , Now I don't if anyone agrees with me. William Devane could have had big-screen career , because a pit Jack Nicholson about him, but not as good.
It's so refreshing to see other people enjoying William Devane in Payback. I first watched the movie some years ago and was hypnotized by the precision and crispness of his voice and I didn't exactly understand why. There were other voices or sound effects over the years that I found especially pleasing and, again, I didn't know what ASMR was until its somewhat recent viral rise. For a long time, I felt strange and generally didn't comment on the idea to friends or family, not knowing what it was. Once I became aware of the concept, it was a relief, knowing it's actually a common interest for many people, hence the tons of videos on YT. It also gave me a keyword to search for to feed my interest. One of my earliest realizations of ASMR before I knew what it was called was the strong, crisp sound of actors walking on gravel (or maybe snow too) or actors walking around with a lot of noisy equipment (typically soldiers). It's mainly a thing from 1980s era movies, some from the 1990s. I think it has a lot to do with the audio equipment used, probably still analog at the time, and overall sound design. When you find a movie with that sort of character, it's an ASMR lover's wet dream.
Indeed. Devane's manner of speaking, at least in this film, is very satisfying, almost hypnotic. Have you seen the Straight Up version of Payback? Devane's dialogue after Resnick is dismissed is gone, but other stuff was deleted too, while additional things were changed and added. I like it more and think it is the better version, but many folks disagree and prefer the theatrical version.
I could not seem to understand why I am so fascinated with William Devane's voice, especially in the movie "Payback". I have replayed that same scene over and over in the movie "Payback" because I find his voice so soothing and relaxing. I finally know why now, its ASMR. I didn't think such a feeling or small sensation has an actual term and explanation, I don't feel weird now because evidently this is a common feeling and/or response from an average person. Thanks for making and sharing this wonderful video and also thank you to Mr.Devane for helping bring me peace, comfort, and relaxation in this stressful world we live in. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!
OK so I'm not nuts..I've watched William Devane's scenes in Payback many times because I found his voice so soothing, and couldn't figure out why. I thought I was the only one..thanks for posting this
I love it when Carter asks , " ..where did you get the one hundred thirty thousand dollars ? " the look on Vals face , like when your hand is caught in a cookie jar .
YES. I just posted a comment with a similar note. I've always liked strong footsteps as well as crispy, crunchy footsteps on gravel. There's a song - Agalloch, "The Lodge" - which opens with fantastic snow footstep ASMR.
That was thought about Knots William Devane, their is a pit Jack Nicholson about him , not as good as him. But William Devane could have been a hollywood A-lister. But look he is a great actor anyway.
You should use Disclosure. Donald Sutherland, Michael Douglass and that Phil guy all add asmr to the mix. And for Sutherland, you'll love Lock Up. Really good dialogue.
This is a thing! Im an 80s kid, so it is a thing to see Greg Sumner as a Boss as he is and running Lex Luthor Sr. Both being run by the boss of bosses KK the Whisler who played a villain in the past. lol. Very casting.

I could not possibly agree with you any more! Your comment compliments and puts the icing on the cake after re-watching William Devane's performance.
I love this edit too, cause it makes the conversation even more one sided and that’s hilarious for some reason.
Now I loved Devane in knots , Now I don't if anyone agrees with me. William Devane could have had big-screen career , because a pit Jack Nicholson about him, but not as good.
@@johndoyle2429 He was one of those guys like John Saxon. Just never seemed to really bust through into the top tier of the A-list.

Justin, I loved William Devane in Knots landing. I also think should have made it to big-screen, because he Superb actor.
"He died of dysentery, he gimme de watch" -- still one of the funniest lines and deliveries.

I’d really like that payback scene on a loop for 30 minutes ! Great video .
You can just right-click within the video and select "Loop."
“5 long years he wore this watch….up his ass.”
Bruh nothin more relaxing than the ass clock monologue
omg that scene from backdraft! I was really young when I first watched it and now I understand why it stood out to me so much
The same thing happened to me as a kid! I loved listening to this scene not knowing why.
The William Devane was my first asmr movie find. I watched the scene over and over again. The best!!
What a voice! The dude in Payback
I know! I want Asmr loopz the RUclips channel to do a loop on it
It's Donald Sutherland
William Devane
"...and three, we can have you replaced." The heavy's slight smile at that mention makes the scene.
William Devane's voice is like some dark, flavorful BBQ sauce.
I don’t like bbq sauce but very good description.
Best comment ever
DURING these uncertain times, I BUY GOLD.!!
I just know that I hadnt seen any of the choices in clips, Im impressed and pleased, thanks for the small compilation
I'm glad you enjoyed! These are some of the clips I remember liking from before I knew what ASMR was.
@@oohlalaasmr i hope to see more in the future
Devane just has that "I run shit" charisma
1:27 "where did you get the 130,000 dollars?".
....12 seconds later.....
1:39 "We never asked you where you got the money"
I hope you all enjoy. Feel free to comment if you have any suggestions.
OohLaLa ASMR
Look out for films staring Anne Bancroft, her voice can be quite soothing
Good tip, I'll keep an eye out.
A lot of Ice Harvest is asmr recorded style. John Cusack movie
Secret Garden has a asmr scene. When Mary finds the key.
Peter Falk had a lot of good ASMR scenes in Columbo ❤
Hey just to let you know this is actualy good you should keep these videos up .....thanks for the complition really enjoyed it
I appreciate it!
Thank you! I loved this movie and this scene in particular!
Thank you! So glad you enjoyed
I’ve come back to this video 30 times in the past two days. It is perfect. I started watching Payback and that entire film is one big ASMR orgasm.
The first clip was Lowkey too interesting to go to sleep to. It gave me secret society masonic/illuminati vibes. Kinda disturbing but immersive.
That's "the Syndicate" for you...oh, I mean "the Outfit".
I love it when Carter asks , " ..where did you get the one hundred thirty thousand dollars ? " the look on Vals face , like when your hand is caught in a cookie jar .
Wonderfully presented scenes. Great ear and eye for ASMR.
All three of these scenes are ones that I have clipped out and saved for just this reason.
awesome, new sub
For me, it’s strong footsteps. My favourites being Walker in Point Blank and Oddjob running down the Fort Knox stairs.

Thank you for this asmr I really enjoyed it keep up the good work
Thank you so much!
This kid squinting at Christopher Walken telling his tale like a psychopath!
Guy in the first film looks like a mix between Mel Gibson and Jack Nicholson.
That was thought about Knots William Devane, their is a pit Jack Nicholson about him , not as good as him. But William Devane could have been a hollywood A-lister. But look he is a great actor anyway.
The only reason why I would watch this movie is because of Mel Gibson and knots landing, William Devane.
Perfect. Well done. Great Compilation

Thank you for suggestions! I'll have to look into them!
"THat's even worse.." LMAO!!
I’ve watched these movies just for the ASMR
Love it!
Came back here a little while after the terrible news. RIP Donald Sutherland. I could listen to him for hours...
This is a thing! Im an 80s kid, so it is a thing to see Greg Sumner as a Boss as he is and running Lex Luthor Sr. Both being run by the boss of bosses KK the Whisler who played a villain in the past. lol. Very casting.
John Glover is great!
"Any Polaroids or trophies?"
i haven’t seen anyone include pulp fiction yet, thank youu
Thank you!
@ I found the watch scene to with Christopher Walken to be good asmr for me.
What software program did you use to edit the videos?
I use premier and audition
@@oohlalaasmr I’m unfamiliar with that program(s). Can you clarify?
I just watched Payback yesterday.
You really need to turn up the sound on this video.
I wish someone could do the scene from HOOK where hook is talking to peter
The 70000 and the fact he's the reason he got shot in back.
Is he the one who read Jed Mckenna's books?
Honestly, I just came for the clip from Payback. It's awesome. Clicking off now. Bye-bye.
Ok?
@@Burt_Sampson Imagine replying to something two years later with that.
@@MrBraddles3128 just wanted to see if you were still alive. Good to know you are

I’m sorry but I am not taking a watch that’s been up not one but two asses in it’s time.
Add inglorious bastards
I don't get ASMR. It all sounds like pro sound design to me. Wish I could find the Director's Cut of Payback.
In a lot of ways it is! I spend tons of time mixing and mastering the audio on these.
“This watch…………”
if you dont understand it, get rid of it
Classic!
