I always wondered why I never felt that passion others seemed to have during worship, and feared that I wasn't really saved. I later learned that sometimes the solution is more practical, like getting enough sleep and eating a real breakfast before coming to church. Little things like this can have a surprising impact on our lives, so it's worth considering your habits before deeming it a sin issue like I was led to believe growing up. I hope this helps!

I have really been contemplating how sin not only separates but deceives our hearts. If we allow sin to embed our minds, we won't even think rationally any more. Which is a frightening prospect.

I think a good litmus test is if you’re asking these types of question, you don’t have to worry about having a hard heart. A hard hearted person doesn’t even consider these questions. So do not doubt and do not lose heart, because doubt is not from God.

I get it - to harden your heart is to resist the softness of compassion, kindness and the emotional feelings that come with seeing your brother or an enemy or a stranger going through something very painful and hurtful and suffering.

The main lies of sin are- God isn’t good. His word isn’t true. Disobeying Him isn’t that big of a deal.

Hey just wondering? When you read scripture where God is seemingly unloving. How do you deal with it? Especially in old testament the way God had them deal with war captives. In leviticus and deuteronomy there is scripture that makes God appear immoral according to what we would call immoral today. Not sure if people glaze over it or actually look into and see if God is possibly not good.

@@davesyoutubechannel1951 There are two kinds of people who post the way you posted. One group is genuinely interested in learning more. The other people are posting negatively, wanting to argue or put other people down. Briefly, I will say that God is God and He can do whatever the hell he wants. Our understanding is so far less than his as an ant's is to ours.

@marymorris6897 well when Christian's read the Koran and come to something they don't agree with, they call it false. Yet there's gruesome stuff in the bible but people glaze over it and just say God can do as he pleases. Why not say the same for Allah? And so many Christians have never even read the old testament so I wonder what they would think about an all good God when it sure doesn't seem that way in the old testament. Also your language is off putting to saying he can do whatever the hell he wants. Why throw hell in there?

@@davesyoutubechannel1951 Hello friend, when you come to passages that you wrestle with, say such as why would God command the destruction of a people group, this is when you stop and put time in study and dig deep and try to see what exactly God was doing there. And you also take it to God in prayer and seek Him earnestly, and you will find the truth. I can guarantee you that God is the very definition of good my friend. I deal with this. They talk about loving God, love your enemy, love this and love that. But how can you love with a harden heart? I don't know if it's just my personality. But I just don't feel anything for anybody. Having a hard heart you really can't feel that love for God, the things of God bore you, anger you and you just keep jumping in and out from the things of God to the world. If God wants me to love him, have passion for his things, then why give me a hard heart.

I have a hardened heart for as long as I can remember. Or a heart of unbelief. Or not a heart at all. I don't even know. I think/thought I am a christian. I agree with everything the Bible says. But I've developed a personality (disorder) with pride, without love or compassion, without real sorrow, with fear... Please pray for me. I don't see any fruit of the Spirit in my life. Every good thing I've ever done was either out of fear, duty or because I would get praise for it. Something is wrong.

Brother, know that you are loved by our lord Jesus. If he chose you He wont let you go. Also God will never place us in a situation without giving us an outcome, he will not leave you. You did not get saved because of something you did, your salvation was a gift God gave to you because he loved you. Dont forget to pray and be honest with yourself about certain habbits that might be distracting you and leading you away from God. Jesus tells us to cast our worries and burdens onto him.
Know that God really desires for us to become his children. So much so that he gave his only son so that we may be saved. So if you are willing to follow him and believe in him (believing also comes with trust), God will help you.
May God be with you at all times ✝️🕊

@DenasiaBrown-yy1qu Thank you for asking. I have just been going through a bumpy time in life, and my relationship with the Lord hasn't been as strong, and I fell into a spiritual numbness in destress. I have been putting a lot of pressure on myself to build up a zeal again for the Lord. I used to be extremely close to him, and I want that close bond again. Thanks, though.

@@xxstarbushxx111 hi me too, i feel numb as well,i also used to be close to him but i fell away from believing a lie and being angry, i got distracted and then i chose to try and do my own thing, telling God that i was walking away, after that ive just been tormented, i try to spend time with him and im trying to do it out of love but my emotions are a roller coster and im confused about myself all the day ong. i dont do anything so its added harder, i also pressure myself to build up zeal, ive prayed for zeal but im sure its in his own timing.

@DenasiaBrown-yy1qu first of all focus less on yourself more on the Lord. I had that numbness because I was grieving the spirit with self obsession. So just repent of any ongoing sins I find spending time being still and quiting my mind helps . I have had a similar issue recently with zeal. Just know he deeply loves u man. Don't put too much pressure on yourself because I did that and caused anxiety attacks and fear issues. Just meditate on the word I recommend.

I worry that I have a hard heart because I don’t cry anymore about those animal abuse commercials. Am I doomed? Does Jesus want me in hell?

(KJV+) 1 Corinthians 7:1-2,5-10: "Now concerning the things whereof ye wrote unto me: It is good for a man not to touch a woman. Nevertheless, to avoid fornication, let every man have his own wife, and let every woman have her own husband. … Defraud ye not one the other, except it be with consent for a time, that ye may give yourselves to fasting and prayer; and come together again, that Satan tempt you not for your incontinency. But I speak this by permission, and not of commandment. For I would that all men were even as I myself. But every man hath his proper gift of God, one after this manner, and another after that. I say therefore to the unmarried and widows, It is good for them if they abide even as I. But if they cannot contain, let them marry: for it is better to marry than to burn. And unto the married I command, yet not I, but the Lord, Let not the wife depart from her husband:"

This should not be your reason for marrying. That would be unbiblical and a sin in itself. Fight your sin, through the power given to you by the Holy Spirit. But first you will need to deny yourself, take up your cross, and follow Christ - as He commands.

I appreciate that Hebrews can be confusing but it's frustrating when even someone like John Piper ignores the context of a passage.
Hebrews 3 was addressed to Jewish believers who'd heard the gospel and were tempted to return to Judaism and temple sacrifices etc. The writer sets his comments against the unbelieving rebellion of the Hebrews in the wilderness who refused to trust in God. He articulates how Jesus is better than angels and Moses etc.
Christians certainly should encourage one another and avoid sin. Sin does indeed harden our hearts, but that isn't what Hebrews 3 is driving at.

To that dear friend I would say you can ask God about your heart condition, you don't need to ask John Piper. Does John piper know your heart? Would you rather hear the real story about your heart from God or will you conform with the "I think" of John Piper? John Piper is a great theologian, but he has no idea about your heart, God does. The think is, do you know and/or believe that God will reveal the state of your heart and is willing to heal every wound and take off anything from your heart that could be causing a hardening? John piper cannot convince you that only God is satisfying, only God could and will if you trust he will do it.

There's no need to come down on Piper, God uses people such as him to help sinners such as me. Piper has been instrumental in my journey towards accepting Christ as my saviour, and a true guide on many scriptural issues I struggle with. The Holy Spirit is strong in Piper. Be very careful when criticizing God's messengers. Rather advise someone without criticizing another. When Piper says "I think" he shows humility towards God's word - which is a fundamental Christian trait.

@@renierbezuidenhout7861 Sorry you misinterpret my comment. The reason I watched the video is because I do watch and read lots of content from Piper, that's why I mentioned he is a great theologian. What I meant is that we sometimes want to find answers to our issues in the time we want, and by that we are missing the opportunity to spend more in our relationship with God and let him speak to our heart. None of us have all the answers which is why, although it is great to count with someone's advice, no one is able to see the whole picture of the matter, which is why people, as much as they can know about something can only give us what they think about the issue, but God can reveal the whole picture. By no means I'm disqualifying Piper my friend. Hope I made my point clearer. Hugs
