I’m watching these videos in reverse order they are incredibly helpful I think I realized now that keeping a reef tank tickles my chemistry fancy as well as my love of fish and I find all of this water chemistry discussion fascinating
I’ve been using BRS kalk since my first reef tank over 10 years, it was a 125 gallon that would grow almost any coral. Used kalk in the top-off, evaporation and demand balanced out perfectly in that tank. Since upgrading a year and a half ago to a 180 with an Avast kalkstirrer the demand was more than kalk could supply so I also dose with dosing pump. Took a while to get it dialed in! Thank you BRS for all the testing and info you guys provide!
BRS Pharma is 100% pure and safe, but has slightly less mag, calcium, and alkalinity levels. I said spend less and have toxic metals but slightly higher calcium and alkalinity levels, or have 0 toxic metals and slightly less calcium and alkalinity levels. I decided to spend more and buy the high quality BRS pharma because I knew i was using the best!
Great Test. Where would the previous BRS Kalk fall in this test. I've used it for years and still have some. Sorry if you covered it. I'm on my first cup of coffee
I've been running ESV Kalk for the last year or so and not had any issues, though I have suspisions its one of the not named brands. Once I run out of this last tub I think I'll get a bag of pharma from you guys!
It would have been fun if you'd also headed to your local hardware store and included a bag of QUIKRETE 50-lb Hydrated Lime or similar just to see where it fell in your tests too.
I have been using ms wages just because it is local and cheap. I have am about 1/2 way through my first bag in almost a year. When I started dosing it my mag was on the low side and it has been steadily climbing. I have been scratching my head as to way and now i am pretty sure I have my answer.
Looks like I am kicking my Brightwell to the curb. It’s supposed to have extra Ca added and has the lowest calcium, has too many contaminates (now I know why my zinc keeps climbing) and is the most expensive. So far Brightwell is not looking good in these tests.
I use that BrightWell plus two, according to my icp, my strontium is still low , mag is up, but so is the build up in my ato, and I only use one teaspooon per 5 gallon, just to add a little alk so I dont have to dose allot of 2part, not gonna use it anymore,!
I guess I would turn this around and say that many people have been using most of these products for quite a while and not experienced any issues. From that perspective, it’s hard to justify not using Mrs. Wages if you can find it. After that, use the cheapest option available to you.
I think is kind a like a standard apple and an organic apple . Standard apples won’t kill me outright on its own but but people die from long term exposure to environmental factors all the time. as long as it’s affordable people would prefer to not consume the undesirable content contaminants on our foods and eat the organic apple . Question is just what’s affordable? If it is 5 cents more you will get 99% 10 dollars you will get 1%. Just a individual decision. In this case many people will pay the buck just to not get the Kalk poof their face. .

Been rocking Mrs. Wages from the beginning in my nano. That first bag is still going strong after a 1.5 years
Great information! I plan on using the BRS Kalkwasser when my tank needs it.

Aquavert GreenWorks Yup, local Walmart in the food container section.
Yup me to for a year works great!
I'm going with the brs pharma but I really wish it had lower lead level's!
Mrs. Wages, just cant go wrong and is best priced.
✋Mrs. Wages for me. My only complaint is the "poof".
Can we expect a 4th of July sale? I’d like to pick up some new gear

Duane Clark yeah it's a damn shame when a $3 Walmart bought mrs. Wages outperforms the most expensive brand.

How much of the Mrs. Wages would you use in a 90 gallon reef?
Does kalkwasser expire? I have a bottle from seachem with no expiry date
can u restock pukani please
What about your guy's older kalkwasser non pharma brand? I have so much of it on hand.
It would very likely perform similarly to the aquarium and food grade options. So acceptable but not as good.

Looks like I made a good choice in buying 14lbs Mrs. Wages!
Miss wages is sold at Walmart. By the jars and Canning goods.
