    I can tell you from having made sheaths for hunting/skinning/outdoor knives that the hole in the scabbard Is "originally" intended as a drain for things like water and blood to run out the bottom instead of pooling around the blade and having it fast rust. As for this one, it's a toss up as to why they did it. To give credit it's so water/moisture doesn't pool on your blade.

    a thing Worth noting about the keris scabbard is that it is intentionally made fragile. often it was made to break upon impact. So that you could block wioth it sheathed one time and that would effectively unsheath it (permanently)

    As to the Katana, in the film, Hattori Hanzou puts the mystical lion mark on the sword, who forges for the Bride. If you want to get its collection. The other sword should have a mark of a deamon's face, which is the sword forged by Hattori Hansou for Bill. And if you want another one forged by Hattori Hanzou (in the film), it will be Budd's Katana, which is engraved with words "To Budd the only man i ever loved. -Bill" And as you have a set of Katana and Ryumon's Tanto, I suggest you find a Wakizashi and Tachi, and Naginata and a suit of Samurai Armor to match the existing pair.

    That box being labeled 30 pounds despite being a little lighter is due to "Shipping Weight" factors. Basically its a calculation of what something inside a box that size would weigh on average. Essentially, it compensates for how many more packages could fit in the trucks or plane if your package wasn't in such a large box.

    One of rhe reasons Windless scabbards feel lose is because when they are exposed to wet weather, the leather expands and can lock the blade in said scabbard. If it is looser, one can avoid that issue. Try ipnching the throat closer together, thst works for me :-)

    All Damascus/ Pattern Welded steel is usually “etched” in an acid to highlight the different steels. Just like you described on the “Scottish Knife” if you grind the blade *after* you do the etching dip, the pattern will be much, much fainter where any material was removed for the sharpening.
    I’m not saying that you’re necessarily wrong about whether that Pickle-Knife is really pattern-welded or not, but sometimes it can be misleading to judge it the way you described in the video.
    To really be sure, sand down the parts you think are etched until you can’t see the pattern, and then re-dip in ferric-chloride or something similar to see if any pattern shows back up.

    Historically, Tantos weren't often worn. But when they were, they'd be behind the back in a horizontal fashion. Ryumon is an entry level brand, about a step up from Musashi. Usually their swords are nicer looking but still maintain a good blade.

  • @Ws_minion
    @Ws_minion 8 лет назад

    acid etching is how you bring out the pattern in damascus steel, the acid erodes the steel at different rates dependent on the carbon of the steel causing the patterning so having something "acid etched" isnt a bad thing, printing is usually the way people fake damascus as you dont need to fold 2 different steels.

    • @medievalreview
      @medievalreview 8 лет назад

      +WolfSpiderAirsoft Acid washing is what you are describing, Acid etching pre-assumes that a pattern is being used, and a mask is being applies to the steel, but yes you are correct.

    I ordered an unguided large box as well and got it the 1st of april and was overall pleased. The ring belt and Cold Steel cap (knit cap for me) seem standard. A Hanwei Babmboo Mat katana, a Ritter Steel reverse blade katana, a Ronin Katana Euro #6 longsword, a Cold Steel US Army Officer's Saber, and an unmarked cheap (Pakistan?) bowie knife (WP12333). Overall a good value, I'll probably do it again someday.

    Not really a criticism for this video in particular but it always makes chuckle when I see people questioning the price of something like a sword or a knife that is 100% functional but maybe the person doesn't like the design. Even if you completely ignore whatever the material cost (which for a sword made of high carbon steel will definitely be a noticeable chunk of the price) the hours it takes to make one of these will usually justify whatever price you are paying. The fact that you can even get a functional sword (that will hopefully) hold up to some abuse for under or around $100 amazes me.

    • @ilyaakadishtungha7337

      If they are as heavy as the arming sword look like it is, or as unwieldy as the knife, or as pitifully poorly assembled as the Jian is, "amazing" would be the last word that comes to mind, preceded by the likes of "disappointing", and "laughable", and maybe even "cringeworthy".
      I personally ABHOR the Kriss, but if you made me choose between that and the arming sword, or even worse the Jian, I would still choose the Kriss, for no other reason than because that was the battle ready weapon I was promised, not some Walmart tier bunghole poker

      +paolothemaster It will happen... I will likely eventually do a review of it, the Raptor, the Katana, and the Jian. All 4 of those are functional enough to be reviewable AFAIK.

    I did giggle a bit though.

    I'm betting that first sword is from ritter steel. Their small swords are heavier than Claymores.

    The actual name for a Scottish kilt dagger is a Sgian-dubh (pronounced ski-n-du) and that thing with the green dagger is not one

    I ordered a large box, with the keyword "1066" (hoping for something anglo-saxon, norman, or viking.
    I got a Darksword Armory Henry V sword with belt and scabbard that I can't find anything wrong with, around $450.
    A Ronin Katana Dojo Pro 19, $300
    Universal Swords 28" Cutlass $160.
    Barbarian Dagger for like $60
    Some Khukuri with a loose grip, maybe $50
    A Deepeeka Double Tomahawk for like $30.
    So, I also got around $1000 in stuff.
    I was a bit disappointed to not get anything that I really wanted, and have joked that I'd be even more happy with a single $300 sword than all of the stuff I got; but, in the end I'm very happy.

    Seems like one could ebay auction off the stuff they didn't really want (holding onto 1-2 keepers) and go for round 2 or pocket their initial investment.

      +JUDAS Umm... stay tuned... ;) I am going to ramp up some of my other video series that I haven't touched in a while, specifically, the SLO marketplace. I have a really good one I'm working on.
      The problem is if I only did ones I owned, I'd have a lot less to work with, vast majority of my swords are perfectly fine.
