Totally agree on your description of “the journey”. Everybody has their own! In my case I wouldn’t even had to “play the game” because I am based in Europe and here you can wish for a bag a with some waiting time (around 2-3 years) you will get it without any purchase history. In my case I really love to shop with my SA at my local boutique and sometimes she pulls out special stuff where she thinks I might be interested in - sometimes I am and sometimes I pass and that is totally ok with both of us. I waited for my special edition K25 for one year and I was absolutely not in a hurry. I really enjoy exploring everything in the boutique, especially the RTW. I am not a huge spender, visit my boutique 2-3 times a year and always spend around 700-2500€/ visit. The thing is: back in the days I was only interested in their bags but not I would rather buy a nice cashmere sweater or a silk dress from hermes than a bag. The quality of their RTW is outstanding. For me this is what true luxury is about.

@ Absolutely! In my opinion the customers who want a B/K/C because of status/resale value etc. do not really understand that these attributes come with a price. These bags would not be so in demand when you could purchase them right away as we can see for example with Chanel Classic Flap or other lesser known houses like Delveaux etc.

Oh the YSL Sac de Jour is extremely similar in style. I believe its about 3k at the moment. I think thats really the most similar looking from the higher end fashion houses

I think the H SA’s are smart. LVMH SA’s make low commission and H SA’s only make commission on RTW, home and jewelry so they’ve made it an exclusivity “game.” People want what they can’t easily attain. The more “higher end” clientele you have, the more competition there will be which means more $$ for the SA’s. So they push the heavier commission items and if they like you or know you’ll keep coming back and buy what they push, they’ll give you a bag. The less competitive the store, the more stock will be available. Europe operates differently.
Hi Rose, thank you. The ratio is what you're prespend is before you get offered a bag. Ex: the Birkin retails for around 11,000 so many people say you will at least need to spend that in other Hermes pieces. A clothing article from Hermes can easily cost you 10-15,000 that's why many also say that clothing can get you the bag quicker. Hope that makes sense 🙂

I feel now even if you have been loyal to the brand, it’s such in high demand that it’s getting way less of a luxurious experience. I’ve got bags , but honestly now I need a pause because I dislike where Hermès is at the moment. It’s not about your loyalty or how much you love what they do, it’s becoming a competition… it gives me bad vibes. I don’t blame my SA, it’s just the traffic in the store that had changed the experience.
