Great update. One of the most amazing things I have ever seen in my life was to watch Kilauea erupt 10 years back. We were fortunate enough to be able to walk right up to lava flows and also able to see it pour into the ocean.
Thank you for showing us these eruptions, both Kilauea and Iceland, with such calm commentary. Not alarmist or overdramatic. I'm learning more about volcanoes 🌋 than I would have thought possible back in school in the 70s! ❤
Really a bit of a"crazy" eruption. I've been following it each day, had a look at the live cam several times per day. So I saw the little spatters 1 or 2 days ago, the visitors of the NP had reported about as well. Then I was full of hope and happy today. Great! Tyvm for the video!
As of 1100 UTC there have been two vents erupting together. One is hidden behind the other in the USGS live feed view, but you can see it plainly if you look closely.
Thanks again. If you have time and inclination, would you cover the recent post from the Yellowstone observatory “An electromagnetic view of how magma is stored beneath Yellowstone”. I had been curious about the methods and instrumentation used in the recent discussions of the location of magma stores under the Reykjanes peninsula and came across this article. It’s fascinating stuff. But the USGS article doesn’t provide a ton of detail. Maybe you have access to the original publication….no doubt detailed discussions of magnetotelluric data and solar flares would go over my head. Would love your take.
Question: would the sporadic eruption be "local" in nature (down to Kilauea's own reservoir) or would it be affected by influx of magma from deeper below?
That could happen in a few months or years. Last year Kilauea erupted twice along the rift zones, one eruption per rift. Plus both were in areas that hadn't seen eruptions in decades.
After extensive reaserch, I have found the reason why Pele spews out lava in phases. It happens whenever Pele gets to the centerfold of PlayVolcano magazine 🙂

I have been checking every morning and saw the little splash this AM. I was surprised when I checked back in a couple hours later. A proper fountain.
Thanks, Shawn, for keeping us up-to-date - great stuff, as always! 🌋
Me too!
Thanks to you I’ve been able to see things I would never otherwise have seen. Thank you so very much!
Kilauea....the gift that keeps on giving! Thanks for the update!
Excellent video again, Shawn. Love your work.

I appreciate that. Glad you enjoy these. Too much alarmism on YT.
Thanks for all the hard work on these videos!
Thanks again Shawn! Spectacular to see this, and fun to see the fountain grow.
Thank you Shawn: the fountaining is beautiful.
Thanks for the update Shawn.
Thanks, Shawn! I so look forward to your videos.
Very interesting to see the before eruption open vent being just a glow to the beginning and continuing. Thank you. Learning so much.
Wow! That's amazing! I'm surprised it has erupted that many times. Our Earth is amazing! ❤
Thank you Shawn for another great update!
Thanks for the update. Kilauea is keeping its place on the list of most active volcanoes on Earth.
Thanks for the update!!
Really appreciate your kind support to keep these updates coming.
Thanks for this quick up date.

Pele showing her power! Love it! I have family in Pahoa… ❤
Thank Shawn! You're the best❤

Just lava oozing through the vent until suddenly it squirts out!
Such a fascinating volcano!

I’ll be there in February. Hang in there Pele’
Me too!
I'm in luv , I'm in luv , I'm in luv with a Magma production of pumice islands in the the lava flow
the 2nd vent is activating too
Not gonna lie I thought the magma underneath the summit was starting to solidify but Pele proved me wrong lol
Four phases! I'm not going to be able to memorise its moveset at this rate.

Yahoo! Thanks!
second vent is open now
It’s only a matter of time before lava erupts again in the rift zones eventually!
That could happen in a few months or years. Last year Kilauea erupted twice along the rift zones, one eruption per rift. Plus both were in areas that hadn't seen eruptions in decades.
Is there anyway to stop it?
No. Nothing stops a volcano. They go where they want to.
🤔... Vermont Nordic Water Skiing ??? ... hope the Von Trapps got to enjoy some road cuts...
We did get one good ski day in before the rain and warm temps came. And we visited the Trapp Lodge.
"Climb every mountain", but watch out for the mechanics in the convent...!!! @@shawnwillsey
Land o' lakes,wi......here,!
Pele's hair ?
Likely being created and distributed downwind in small nooks and crannies within crater and perhaps along rim.
