Creo Parametric - Mechanisms | Slider Connection

  • This Creo Parametric tutorial video shows the process for implementing and analyzing a mechanism in an assembly. It shows a Slider connection for a linear actuator (model from Thomson Linear), setting motion limits, taking snapshots, defining a motor, and running a kinematic analysis.

    Another awesome video as usual. Could you make a video showing the motion envelope functionality? Also, can one simulate spring force using the mechanism suite of features? Also, a video showing a mechanism with more than one moving part would be really helpful too. I do feel bad making so many requests when you are already providing so much knowledge here. Just some more ideas to add to the list for future videos I suppose :)

      Sean, I can definitely show motion envelope. I have a few different results videos on my To Do List, like Trace Curves as well.
      I can definitely do more than one moving part. I know I wanted to do a planetary gear, but those are just a bunch of pin and gear connections. I was thinking about re-making a concept for a package deployment mechanism from my time on Amazon Prime Air. That one had pins, gear pairs, and rack and pinion if I remember correctly.
      You can simulate springs with the MDO license.
      Feel free to keep suggesting ideas. The requests definitely help because then I know someone is really interested in seeing that topic.

    Hello, thank you for this amazing video. I'm currently having a slight problem with both slider and pin connections. I made an assembly file that has a working slider and pin connection, so I naturally brought said assembly file to another assembly file to combine them. When I finished combining these parts and tried to use the "Drag Components" feature on the previously working slider and pin connection part, it moved the entire combined model and not the parts with the pin and slider connection. I feel like I'm missing something important but I can't find out why. Thanks in advance.

      Is your base component assembled with the Default constraint? At least 97% of the time it should be. Biggest mistake people coming from other CAD packages make is not using constraints for the first component.

      Yes, the asm file where I defined the pin and slider connection is constained as a default constraint. Not the one where I combined it with though.

    Can you set also in other assembly constraints that the parts, when dragged or moved, cannot compenetrate with other assembly components? It's simulating real non-penetration between volumes (also with rigid assembly mode). Thanks.

      You can use 3D Contacts in Mechanism mode for simulating interaction via physical contact and non-penetration, but it's heavily computationally intensive. That's the kind of physics you see in movie special effects. It takes a lot of time and power.

    Hi! I have a problem. When i open de .pvz file on Creo View, after creating the snapshots with the drawing availability, the model doesnt show up automatically and the preset explode options arent available (as if they did not exist). What im doing wrong? I did all what you have shown on the video except the combination state.

      Brandon, I apologize; there's something I might have forgotten to mention in the video. The recipe file for outputting Creo View .pvz files does not export author states by default. You need to change that file.       Hi. Thanks for your question. I assume you mean a sock for your foot, and not something like a wind sock or some other kind of component. The quick answer is yes. Now for the details: do you want to model it flat like it comes in a package or how it looks on someone's foot? Are you talking about an ankle sock, calf length, or knee length? Men's or women's size? Probably the easiest way is to start with a standard model of a foot (which are generally available) and use something like the Shell command with a negative offset to create the thickness of the sock.

      @@bocadaniel802 Let me check my files and see what I have. I might not be able to get to it until tomorrow. But in the meantime, have you tried GrabCAD.com? I'd be surprised if you couldn't find at least a dozen foot models there.
