They say genius is a making something complex simple, and you've done that with this tutorial. You also saved me making a purchase for a bulky pop filter - thank you!
I love this guy! He lists a super simple list of ingredients, 3 sheets of paper and a tissue.. At the very beginning of the actual instructions, he then states "You do not necessarily need 3 sheets of paper...". He does not even require SCISSORS! I am trying to make a pop filter for a headset mic, and even if I find better instructions elsewhere, I MUST make one using this video. Thank you!
Hey, Look heres a better way. 1. get a piece of cardboard, 2. cut 2 decent size squares 3. inside those squares, Make the squares hollow. 4.Find Fabric that air can pass thought then cut it to the the squares it can be bigger. 5. Go online and buy a Pop Filter for $5
I have a Blue Yeti. I was able to make a great pop filter by putting two thin dress socks over my mic. It works pretty well. I'll have to experiment more, but thanks for the idea, Live Smarter!
Great design and very effective. I did a spectral analysis of the before and after. Doing a spectral analysis there seems to be a 6khz scoop present nearly throughout the whole recording except in a few places and with the pop filter removed, so it could just be comb filtering with a nearby surface. Worth looking into more because this is potentially a life saver for some recording situations.
this is genius for people who don't have stuff like wire and panty hose lying around -- i mean, I do, but that's because i'm a weirdo with a huge craft stash.
OMG it just worked so so so good, I'm starint a cover proyect and I only have a cheap microphone and a good camera, but the souds were too noisy and rough... But not anymore!!! :D Thanks so so much... I changed a few things but works amazingly!!!!
Just wanted to say thank u very much for this:) I got into song recording during this corona pandemic, so I'm not able to order a pop filter in time. This works great, I really appreciate you making this video! much love
Hey Ben, I'm impressed with your video mostly because your effort to explain things in clear way, you must've put some time and effort in research how to do those videos well, clearly you succeeded.
It would have been a much better comparison if you set up your gain and compression so that your Audio Level was the same at all distances. Just the volume boost alone will likely make most people go "Well it sounds 100% better close up" - The closer you get, the more of a boost around 120hz and below get, usually up to around +10db. Just wanted to point out every microphone, voice, and use case is different so speaking "as close as possible" is not universally better. Great idea for a pop filter though. I don't really like that tissue paper has some small airy fibers on it, so I might try it with a paper towel instead.. though I'm worried it may be too thick. Any suggestions on other materials?
You, sir, are very resourceful! Clear, comprehensive video. Though pop filters are (can be) relatively inexpensive (I've seen them for $6 on Amazon tho reviews indicate crappy clamps), this provides folks w/an instant solution for no out-of-pocket .. way cool! I make my own PF. Trial & error & I arrived @ one that works like a champ. Cost = Zilch. Fashionable as well ... and u know that's important!! Good work!
OH THANK GOODNESS! i couldn't get the paper to fold and stay around my (yes, cheap) headset mic, so i cheated and used a paperclip for the frame. the results are stunning! thanks!
@ C Hill: EXACTLY! I use a black thigh high. though I tacked the 2 layers together as I found my vocals rather thin with the gap between the 2 layers. :)
can you use like wire instead of paper for a nicer look or are the paper a thing that do so the sound quality is better ? or are it just a cheaper version . From SWEDEN
What microphone is that you using in the video please I'm thinking of buying a blue yeti microphone but not sure which one because I'm a upcoming rapper which mic is better for me
Wow! Thank you so so so so so so so much! :D You completely saved me, I used to spend many hours editing the audio to remove the pops. I will use this filter every day. Thank you so much! Happy holidays.
Great job on this video. I really enjoy my pop filter and it helps greatly in recording performance. Although mine isn't textbook and I also used staples because I couldn't form the channel for the tissue. Otherwise, great video, keep up the good work.
+Anthony Restrepo ospina yeah it does however, there needs to be minimal noise around you. If there is noise, it won't have a pleasing effect. e.g. if you're at a concert, don't expect to hear only yourself.

Best Origami Tutorial Ever
+Jason Delacruz I was thinking the same thing as I was watching it :)
Jason Delacruz 9
Spends $3000 on professional mic
Spends $0.25 on filter
SUCCESS!

Dean Lambert lel
The blue yeti coats from 110-130$
gold point
@Josh Shechter INTJ agree. The $30 samson mic is high quality more than enough and also portable.

Tried this in a soundproof room for professional recording. Works like charm!
Genius.. This Works Perfectly.. I Was Skeptical

Him: making a pop filter out of paper and tissue
Me: just puts the tissue in front of my microphone
this is genius for people who don't have stuff like wire and panty hose lying around -- i mean, I do, but that's because i'm a weirdo with a huge craft stash.
Anyone else hear the weird ringing in the background while he speaks?
ya lol
Paiple Boo yep

yep
What you're hearing is called "reverb" it's the sound of soundwaves bouncing off the walls in a room.
Excellent Work!! Im an upcoming musician and I really needed to know how to make one. Thanks a lot!
Drvppy Chriss I wish u the best of luck and

This guy is THE REAL MONEY SAVER of RUclips
Thank bro been trying to make a RUclips channel but microphone sounds weird and distant but this helped thanx and I'm subscribing
Glad to be of service. Thanks for the sub mate

I wouldn't attatch it to the mic. That's where the little high pitched background ding sounds are coming from. The paper rubbing on the metal.
omg this was a life saver, i mean i do not intend to use it on a permanent basis but for a quick and temporary fix it is perfect.

Nice tutorial! I may just do this because waiting for a pop filter online will take awhile, so this should be able to hold me off for a while.
I made a pop filter out of kitchen paper towel. Sounds great and blocks pops that no foam was as good as the paper one...
absolutely genius
Pure genius. How the hell did you come up with this? Thx so much for sharing!

can you use like wire instead of paper for a nicer look or are the paper a thing that do so the sound quality is better ? or are it just a cheaper version .

So make reverb you need to get some acoustic treatment or acoustic shield but dope vid

if you put on 2 tissues, will it help more? or is it not necessary ?
House Cuber15 It would be too thick causing your voice to start to get very muffled.

What's that weird metallic sound? If your using a boom stand without a shockmount that tends to happen
But all my tissues are gone ;(

Awesome! BTW I'm to 1001 person to like it! :D
Does a pop filter reduce backround noise??
+Anthony Restrepo ospina yeah it does however, there needs to be minimal noise around you. If there is noise, it won't have a pleasing effect. e.g. if you're at a concert, don't expect to hear only yourself.
does a paper you wrote on works as well?
How old are you
lol
thanks
can I use a Blue Snowball?
ShiftGaming That is what I use, if you don't have one,it's a good mic for starters and I recommend it.
