- Over 63,000 were at Maine Road for this all time classic.
Manchester City 3-3 Manchester United, November 6th 1971.
Scorers: Francis Lee (p), Colin Bell, Mike Summerbee; Sammy McIlroy, Brian Kidd, Alan Gowling.
Thank god we have videos like this to remind us just how great this City team were...Colin Bell is still the best player I have ever seen.
Francis Lee, the king of the divers gets a taste of his own medicine! But what a player he was!
In total agreement with vicsmith500 - Colin Bell was superb.
The top division was so much more competitive in those days
We'll drink,a drink to Colin the king, the king. He's the best inside forward that wooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo has ever seen!
The thing that strikes me is the roar of the crowed. You don't hear that today.
All this sort of stuff from the 70s was amazing. Sinstadt when he was at Granada was the best commentator on TV along with David Coleman on BBC
FOR ALL YOU CITY FANS,,,MANCHESTER HAS MORE TO SHOW THE WORLD ABOUT OUR CITY THAN THIS, i AM A DAUGHTER FROM THE CITY PLAYERS BACK IN THE 1940`S. COME CELEBRATE OUR BLUES ! X
Proper football.
This's football, true football!!!
Gotta love Francis Lee!
watch when franny takes the peno and is jogging back , the look he gives best,..priceless
@mcfcguvnors dam right brother...
This match is priceless for the look that franny gave best after he scored the pen, i reckon best had a little dribble down his leg in fear....
brian kidd has to be given real credit,a world class player and coach.
sha la la la summerbee.
great post,
great game
Come on City
Great match. Loved it.
Never in my had i been to matches in England but back in those days there was passion!
@BigDuke6ixx also ok the football is not as technical as it is now but you got the sense that playing meant more than the money, player more loyal to a club in those days...i think then the football was better
@Beamer66 Heh. Actually I made this video in the days when youtube had a strict filesize limit so anything extraneous had to go. That's my excuse and I'm sticking to it.
the derby tomorrow won't be as good as this
Sammy McIlroy's 1st game for united
back in the days with only 1 sub.
am i right in saying that the north stand did,nt have seats in when this match was played.
how bout this day.. Oct 23, 2011 City smash United 6-1
"and it's gone in off somebody..." quality commentary from Gerald Sinstadt. Is Gerald still alive I wonder ?
@vicsmith5000 Gerald Sinstadt turns 82 in February - been around forever!
Great Stuff!
Not Best but Morgan - still priceless though coz a minute later Morgan looses the ball and Bell scores from Lee's pass.
This was in Autumn '71 when Best was playing the best football in the world nd the best in his post '68 career. The first tow United goals were Best assists. He started boozing heavily in December and United fell apart.
@bazzer1001 thats morgan u donut best was wearing 11
@logopod1 yes it will mate, City 6-1
Shame it was Willie Morgan he looked at.
@vicsmith5000 He is, last I heard.
Seems like you 'forgot' to add in the replays of Uniteds goals and any other attacking play from the reds.
haha the goalies arent wearing gloves lol
Reds all over the ground!
1 nil at wembley says it all -they were outsung outplayed & they threw thier toys out the pram
