I'm trying a new kind of food for my goldfish called Soilent Green by Allen Repashy. This premade gel food is super easy to make (just add water!) and my fish love it. I like it better than homemade gel food because this way I can be sure I'm feeding them a diet that is nutritionally complete. This video shows how I made it, and my fish enjoying it. :)

having seen this video, when a package of the gel food came up at the local aquarium club auction yesterday I jumped on it! can't wait to see how my goldie likes it. thanks for your wonderful videos, they've helped me feel confident enough to raise my own fancy goldfish!
SOILENT GREEN IS PEOPLE!!!! There was a movie in the 70's called SOYLENT GREEN. Everyone ate it because the population was starving. Turns out that it was recycled human bodies. Good flick. Awesome name for their product!
Cthulhu Has Risen ewww
True!
Oh thanks, that's a good video idea! I got mine from my LFS, I'm not totally sure what brand it was- can't remember. But for hang-on-back filters I really like the Aquaclears, models 50, 70, and 110.
I put a link in the description for you. :)
I brought some today. Thanks for showing me how easy it will be to prepare.
Yep. Your right flashofpink. I think it would be better the way that you did it. were did you get your aquarium? You should do a video about the brands that you recomend, like what's your filter brand?
you have some beautiful goldies! hope to get a few my self one day thats a really cool idea with the soilent green! subbed!
My favorite filter is a aquaclear too. even if you don't use a cartridge on a filter that is made for it, you won't have enough space for media
Hi there, great content! Quick question plz, when i feed repashy the fish chew it and spit it out and it clouds the water quite badly, how do i deal with this please? Thank you
Separate your squares on wax paper then freeze. Once they are completely frozen in an hour or so then you can jumble the squares together in a sealed container like a sandwich baggie. Otherwise you will end up with one large frozen mass.
Looks like my goldfish would eat that! Definitely going to try get some😀🐟
Would you recommend soilent green or super gold for goldfish? I got them at the fair which I’m sure is a rookie mistake. I’m not sure what kind of goldfish they are, they’re small and thin, defiantly not a fancy goldfish.
goldfish can eat this version also, besides only repashy for goldfish?
how do you jeep the goldfish water so clean ? and nice video.
No to low substrate, larger filter and bubbler stone aerator
Jennifer Lynx is gel food for all fish or just goldfish and is gel food avalible to buy in pet stores
I just started giving this to my goldfish and they love it! My panda telescope hasn't had any buoyancy problems since I switched to this food. Only question I have is I'm afraid that I'm giving them too much. I cut a half inch square mash it up and let my 5 small goldfish have at it. Is that fine and is it safe to feed it to them everyday? Thanks in advance, so much great info in your vids!
It depends on what you think of as a bad smell. Repashy smells to me a lot like alfalfa, which doesn't smell back TO ME, but might to others. It doesn't smell super bad like I was expecting after reading some of the comments. I use the Community Formula. Have not yet tried the Soilent, but this stuff is far from gross smelling!
I will try it for sure, hopefully it is going to help my fish with bladder issues :/
I just made this for my GF. WOW, did it stink up the kitchen! Where do you store the remaining powder that you didn't use? I put it in the fridge.
i've tried it and my fish does like it but would you recommend feeding it as a main meal or should i stick to my pellet food?
FroglingsReborns you could have as a main meal but it's better to give your goldfish a variety
FroglingsReborns you should give it gel foods like 4 days a week and pellets 3 days a week
i just orded this, how often should i feed them this?
Does microwaving kill the nutrients? Or is it better to heat the water firs,t and then mix it with the powder?
It doesn't matter, I just heat the water first, so I don't stink up the microwave.
Huh I havent heard of this stuff, I may try it
Can this be made in a pot vs a microwave?
Hi, could you please do a video on homemade gel food? in another video you mentioned it and I tried making some today, I couldn't get baby food so I had to improvise... ;) It was ok but I don't think it was appetising enough for the fish, could you show me how it's done? Thanks :)
where did you buy the repashy gel powder?
How much gel food do you feed the fish?
Karen Ruiz one inch a 1x1 size square
What type of goldfish are these? Ryukins?
My Ranchu will love this! I got her a week ago and she is having trouble chewing her food something must be wrong with her teeth. She takes 4 times longer than my other fish and looks like shes struggling, soaking her pelts is making a mess...
What water are you using?
Yeah it smells pretty bad, huh?! lol I just keep the powder in my pantry, I don't think it needs to be refrigerated.
It's tastes weird, like a rubbery substance, and it kinda tastes like lake water for some reason? Idk why and I don't think I like it
well maybe that is because it is not made for HUMANS!!! it is FISH food not people food...
It’s for fish...

I am concerned about the high protein content of this product. I thought that it was best to feed goldfish a food with a protein content of less than 30%. No?
The high protein comes from the secret ingredient humans (soylent green movie) jk if you didn't want this because you're concerned about the protein I think there's a super green soilent green with more plant ingredients
Hey, I checked out the link you gave for buying this, and apparently it's a chicken food site. Did a search, no results there...?
Thanks for reminding me to change the link! Tasty Worms used to sell fish food and aquarium products, but it looks as if they've changed their focus. I recommend Dandyorandas.com for Repashy gel food!
Solid Gold Thanks! Can you tell me if this would work as koi food too? I now have a goldfish and a koi together.
how much was the powder bag?
I haven't seen the bags for sale in a long time. I know a 3 oz jar is $9, plus whatever the price of shipping is. Yikes. O.o
Brittany Kozlowski not just that, the bigger quantity is cheaper compared to buying smaller quantities that add up to as much as the bigger one, example, 12oz bag $15, 3x4 3oz bags = $25 (note these aren't actual prices just examples)
I never thought that u can set up a fish tank with out any decoration in it
r u worried about your fish gettin white spot i was I bought 2 bottles of treatment
IT'S PEOPLE!!!!! SOILENT GREEN IS PEOPLE!!!!!
7catstied2gether This is true!
my fishies love it
What's Is The Name Of Your Food ?
You can get it online just type in the name
My mom won't let me buy it
i mean the aquarium water
Putting the mixed water and powder in the microwave is a great tip. Another good to is to wait until your family is away so you don't have to hear how this stuff smells god-awful. It really does smell like Swamp Thing's toe jam.
You did it wrong you are suppose to boil the water then add the mixture
Nope, I made it according to the instructions on the package.
Solid Gold Aquatics how long do you leave it in the refrigerator?
Do you use tap water or tank water?
Made some for the first time yesterday and the smell is horrid. Think i'm gonna stick to pellet food. Lol
But it's $40 we are not rich l

Hiya you can buy this product of amazon fo 26 dollars for a 340gram jar inc postage
It will last you a LONG time if you only have a few goldfish
Okay, I just got some. I haven't given it to the fish yet. However, it smells AWFUL. So if you have other people living in your house make it when you are home alone.
Doesnt really look worth the price.
I don't have enough money to afford this all the time for my fish. So I'll do my best with sinking pellets, fruits and vegetables, and other sources of goldfishs' needed nutrition. But around a fish splurging time I'll probably get a bag so they'll have a real treat~
My fish refuses to eat veggies but she LOVES the gel food. She wasnt a fan of pellets either, I tried 4 brands and she ate a few and didnt eat the rest
