  • The most beautiful inspirations for rail transport modeling, model railroads and model railways are often provided by Switzerland. Therefore, Rob de Vleeschhouwer and Wim Wijnhoud have modelled the railway infrastructure between the Swiss and German border. The result is a six-meter-long modular model rail layout in HO scale, which is built in three segments, each two meters long and about 30 centimeters deep.
    The model railway layout is called “Court du Bouton”. The background depicts landscapes that are typical for Switzerland. The foreground is dominated by the rail traffic of trains used by the German state railroads (DB) and the Swiss state railways (SBB). Rob de Vleeschhouwer has built the technical infrastructure of the model railroad. For the rails the excellent track system “Mein Gleis”, which is offered by the company “Rolf Weinert Modellbau”, was used. The professional railroad signals are products of the company “Viessmann Modelltechnik”. The computer program “iTrain” made by company “Berros” is used to control the model trains.
    While Rob de Vleeschhouwer took care of the technical construction of the model railway, Wim Wijnhoud put his heart and soul into the landscape design. His idea was to have both ends of the model layout start and end with tunnels. He did not build classic tunnel portals, but tunnel portals typical for Switzerland, which protect against avalanches and rockfall. Model trains coming from the staging yard, which is installed behind the model railway layout, pass through these tunnel entrances or exits. In the further course of the miniature railroad line, trains initially run on a single-track line, which is then divided into three tracks.
    These tracks lead to a small railway station, which is located in the middle of the model railroad. One track is used for passenger service. It is equipped with a platform. Another track is used for freight trains, which do not have to stop at the station. The station with its platform is located directly at the front of the model layout, so that spectators can look at the miniature world, at the various trains and at the landscape. The third track is used mainly for shunting and ends in front of a locomotive shed.
    The entire construction of the landscape was made by Wim Wijnhoud using modeling tools offered by company “Amaco-Sculptamold”. The buildings and houses are products of company “Tilly Models”. Tilly Models offers the special product line “Zwitsers Alpenspoor Modelbouw”. Finally, this extremely detailed and carefully designed model rail layout is equipped with a catenary so that electric locomotives can run with their pantographs up.

    I was really impressed by the way the scenery merges into the background. I didn't know the layout was only 30 cm (1 foot) deep until I read the description. Ronn

    I like these videos and all the close-ups of the trains and the various scenes.
    But it would be great if they included some wide shots so we can see the whole layout now and then.

      Sometimes you will find a link to the modellers' website in the description below the video. Often there are a lot of photos of the whole layout on those websites. A search for the name of the model railway layout also helps you to see pictures and overall views.

    Nice mix of different types of freight on the trains, but for me the star of the show is the quirky loco featured at about 2:50.

    Pilentum, thanks again for a wonderful video. Have you ever made a video about the model railway at the Swiss Transport Museum in Lucern (Luzern)? If not, it's well worth a trip!

    Does the builder know, that the signals are not swiss ones?

    • @pilentum
      @pilentum  Год назад +1

      I guess, the modellers know that. They had to find a compromise, because the railway line was to contain both German and Swiss railway elements.

      Enkelsporig omdat de modelspoorbaan zowel links als rechts enkelsporig is. Pas ter hoogte van het station splitst het spoor zich in drie andere sporen.

      Yes, I know. The background noise is disturbing. But it was a public model railway exhibition; there is inevitably always background noise.

    Rather boring. You see nearly nothing of the railway installations and the landscape. Only trains, trains, trains in (too) long takes. Disappointing! ☹
