My Lathe looks like the one you unboxed in the video. I did contact Sam of Numobams and he assured me that the Lathe I received is the new updated version. The website is now also updated and the photos reflect that. At the time I ordered mine (July 2024) the photos were still like in your thumbnail.
The ELS is working really well, I think the lathe is great value for money, but of course it is a minilathe, it is what it is. The big bore means that the spindle bearings is also big, I think that is one of the reasons it works so well.
@@TRABWorkshop-ri4ql I've got an optimum 2004, it runs super nice, only 20mm bore though. They don't do a ELS option, I'm looking into one. Change gears suck👍👌🇦🇺
Thanks, it took about 3 month to get it to Denmark, but ships was taking the long way around Africa at the time, I don´t know if they still sail that way.
thank you for your excellent video about the Numobams 400. i will take your advice and get the 600mm bed. Does the lathe have power traverse (as opposed to always having to crank the wheel to make the saddle move back and forth) ?
Thanks. The lathe have simple halfnut and leadscrew for moving the carriage, the electronic leadscrew have a function for moving the carriage with the touch buttons, but I have not used it. In fact you can move the carriage just by pushing it by hand if you need to move it quick. The cross slide does not have powerfeed, the crosslide always needs to be cranked by hand.
I also ordered the 600mm Lathe and it arrived just last week. My Lathe looks like the one the creator of the video has. I did contact Sam of Numobams and he assured me that the Lathe I received is the new updated version. The website is now also updated and the photos reflect that.
A very impressive unit... especially for a mini lathe. Any news or updates on the Bernado POS video from a year ago? Is it fixed ? Is it returned? did you burn it?
I agree, the mini lathe is not bad at all, and it really works straight out of the box, opposite of many of those Chinese machines. The Bernardo have been collecting dust for a while, i used it a little bit for some projects, but it really annoyed me, so I started a big repair and upgrade project on the Bernardo, it is not done yet, partly because I needed a lathe for some of the upgrade parts :-)
A burning question is if you got a normal production specimen or a "reviewer's special". Did you disclose to them that you are an importer of Chinese tools?
Fair question, I did not contact the factory at all before purchase, I ordered the lathe at their webshop and i did not contact them before it allready was shipped, because the tracking number I got did not work. I doubt the factory knows anything about what I do for a living, but of course I don´t know, I even bought the lathe as a private person, because in this case it made the import taxes and shipping cheaper, and I did buy it for my own hobby use. After i made the video, I have notified the factory and given them permission to link to the video if they like, even that I doubt they will link to it, but I don´t know.
"Numobams", that's choice. How long do you think that brand will be around, and which factory do you think it actually came out of? I bet threading on this POS is fun. 🤣
I have imported goods from China to Europe for 15 years, I own a import company and have lots of contacts in China for other type of goods, but the factory is legit. This lathe I bought for my own hobby shop, I don´t import lathes otherwise, I sell air compressors, welders and plasmacutters. But of course you can find their products in different colors with different names, some importers choose to have their own name put on as well. It is what it is, you don´t need to buy one, if you don´t like it :-)
I was ordering the lathe but cancelled it when there was no cost for shipping included . After I paid they could have charged any amount for shipping to my Visa account . That's not on!
I am not affiliated with the manufactorer in any way, but I can say that it is the second machine I buy straight from their shop, and I have had no problems. I live of my own import company and have been for 15 years, I import welders and air compressors from China to Europe, I am used to the poor working Chinese websites, maybe that is why it does not put me off. I believe you can find them on Aliexpress as well, then you would have Aliexpress as third party, to keep check on things. I have emailed with Sam Li from the factory, when I had questions about shipping, if you really are interested, I guess you could drop him a mail - but as I said, I am not affiliated, I am just trying to help here :-) samli@numobams.com

Shipping cost is clearly shown on the website, at least now. I just checked. Unfortunately they don't have models already in their Madrid distributor, which would be great. Shipping+taxes add quite a bit to the very good starting prices they have.
I think a big part of the shipping cost til Europe, is taxes, I think the taxes would be added anyway, even if they were in stock here in Europe. I payed 1050 USD incl shipping from China, delivered to my front door, I still think it is cheap for what you get compared to lets say Vevor, but yes, shipping does add quite a bit to the cost.

@@TRABWorkshop-ri4ql The 400 and 600mm bed models are around 300€ shipping. That'd put the machines at around 1000€. What I don't know is if the seller is considering VAT in the price or not. If VAT is declared, then there's nothing to collect by customs here. If it's not included in the price, then it's at least 21% over the total price, so around 1250€ total for a 600-700€ machine. It'd be nice to know, because I have a Proxxon 250/e incoming and these do a bit more for a similar price.
VAT is included, the price you see with shipping on the website is the total you are going to pay, the seller takes care of the VAT. I have bought two machines from them. I did email with one of their sellers, when I had a few questions, you can reach him here samli@numobams.com
Happy to see that you had much more luck with this lathe compared to the Bernardo.
Thanks, yes for what it is, the minilathe is quite well put together.

@@adhawk5632 I agree 🙂
Thanks for the video. I ordered mine also directly from Numobams. I hope it will arrive soon.

I'm curious about the spindle design. Do you know the bearing size or the spindle shaft wall thickness?

Threading mode needs a faster return.
What happened to the Bernardo?
Right now it is collecting dust, I will use the minilathe to make some parts and make the Bernardo better.
Where did you order?
I orderen from the manufactorers website, I believe you can find them on Aliexpress as well. numobams.com/products/
