    Why is the resistor (next to the zenor) between line and ground? Shouldn't it be just on the positive? I don't understand.

    Going to ask a noob question now (completely new to electronics). I assume I need a 12v (UK) plug to power the 12v maglock. But how many amps does it need to be as there's lots of different options when trying to purchase one.
    Also I have this all set up (minus the plug for the maglock) and it detects the incorrect knocks. But when I do the correct knock to "shave and a haircut" it still beeps like it's incorrect. Is there something I may have missed or done wrong?

    • @PlayfulTechnology
      @PlayfulTechnology  5 лет назад

      Hi! Not a daft question at all. So, UK mains power is 240V AC. This style of maglock wants 12V DC. So you need an 240VAC-12VDC power convertor. Those might look like the sort of black adaptors you might plug into your laptop, or they might be a bit more industrial looking. Maglocks typically draw somewhere between 500mA-1A current, so that would require *at least* a 12W power adaptor (1A@12V = 12W). Note that it doesn't do any harm to use a 12V adaptor that has a higher rating (e.g. a 2A@12V = 24W) - devices only draw as much current as they need. So this one will work fine, for example: www.ebay.co.uk/itm/AC-DC-12V-2A-POWER-SUPPLY-ADAPTER-CHARGER-FOR-CAMERA-LED-STRIP-LIGHT-CCTV/253871141500

    • @PlayfulTechnology
      @PlayfulTechnology  5 лет назад

      Or here's the slightly more "industrial" style I was describing which simply has screw terminal connections which makes it a bit easier to wire direct to the terminals of your maglock: www.ebay.co.uk/itm/DC12V-Top-Quality-LED-Driver-Power-Supply-Transformer-LED-Strip-Light-MR16-CCTV/162283920873

    Hi @Playful Technology, I'm trying to extend the wires on the piezo, but after extending the puzzle does not work anymore (I used good quality 2 meter wire) I tried to do it before and after the diode/resistor combo, but with no result. Could you help?

    What relay is it you're using and where can i order it? Does this have an inbuild transistor and diode? How come this isn't included in the circuit? Im very new to this so..

    If I were rich and idle enough to do all this, I’d have a timing setup where the player has to knock in sync with a radio playing music like that “Knock three times at the door if you want me, twice on the pipe…” song.

      For EM lock use 12V 2A power supply
      19.4V may work with few em locks

If you support me on Patreon for $10, you're able to download the code as an .ino file together with the wiring diagram and list of where I purchased the parts etc. (for this and every other project I've done)
