Thanks Lanny for sharing your stories of you and your brother and for keeping his memory alive . He was the best and you are not so bad yourself. I seen you beat Hogan on SNME in 1989 in Topeka Kansas. Probably the most memorable match ive ever seen in person!! Take care Sir !!
Savage saw a life size cardboard of Hogan near the radio booth. He tour it into tiny pieces and threw them out of the radio booth into the seats below. Crowd loved it.
Not knocking on Lanny, but I have noticed, when someone starts a story for him to build on, if it ain't the exact starting point Lanny remembers it, he will back track, then continue on. I have OCD and I think Lanny does too, maybe that's why i picked up on it
Marge Schott was a buffoon. She cut the Reds scouting budget by two-thirds because she thought it was stupid to pay people to watch ballgames. She also hired Jim Bowden to be GM...
@@SovereignStatesman hold for a minute. I think cutting the military budget when Clinton was in office was maybe a good thing because the Cold war had just ended. The question is how much was needed to be cut
@@SovereignStatesman Why are you bringing up politics? And Clinton's cuts had nothing to do with 9/11, which occurred under Bush. The Bush administration was warned about Al Qaeda possibly doing hijackings, btw. 9/11 wouldn't have happened if we stopped bombing other countries.
I think I had it... sold a bunch of cards on eBay a few years ago that I had when I was a kid when they were issued. I’m pretty sure that’s a Tops 1976 card. I’m kicking myself for not going through them more carefully before selling.
i always liked Leapin’ Lanny Poffo, and the frisbee gimmick. never knew he was the Genius tho. tho i i think my friend told me when young, but doubted it. seemed Genius was a lot bigger. must have doubled the workouts. good stuff Lanny!!!
September 22, 1989. MLB's Cincinnati Reds invite "His Majesty", "His Most Royal Sovereignty", "Macho King" Randy Savage of The-then World Wrestling Federation up to the booth to provide color commentary with Marty Brennaman. Almost impossible for fans NOT to see that he wore his Crown, knowing that that match wouldn't Air until 8 days later, according to WWE Timelines. 23 days into his reign as WWF King at this time. He also defeated Superfly Jimmy Snuka on September 14, the previous week as part of SNME.
Riverfront Stadium becomes The Kingdom of the Madness as Reds Fans, Players, and MLB Umpires become UNGLUED at the presence of "Macho King" Randy Savage.
There are plenty more photos of beardless Randy in this article that deep dives into his baseball career here: prowrestlingstories.com/pro-wrestling-stories/randy-savage-baseball/

Or, you just can't spell?

This is a great story. I didn't know this happened at all.

Thanks ‘Lanny the Genius ‘ Poffo
Randy must have always had the most intense eyes ever, even long before becoming a wrestler.

Sounds like Bill Clinton who cut the military intelligence budget because it's stupid to pay people to watch the enemy.

I want that baseball card
Is it even a real card?

It is a ‘74 Topps card frame, but it is either made-up for on-line use or a collector issue.
No it is not a real card unfortunately.
$3.99 on eBay

Good god, he looked like Chris Kattan.... no wonder he grew a beard.
I am extremely curious to know what Randy Savage's voice was when he was 6 years old.

Is this the ONLY documented picture/footage of Randy Savage WITHOUT A BEARD? LOL

Marge Schott, the WORST OWNER in Cincinnati Reds History.
They did win a World Series, though. The year after this incident, in fact.
OH YEAH DIG IT
Female Owner of the Cincinnati Reds, Marge Schott. Did not know that a woman owned that franchise.
She wasn't too keen on black folk. That's what she's best remembered for.
Rumour has it that her big ass dog she took around everywhere was a bit racist as well.
Greatest athlete ever... Bo Jackson who?
Easy now...bo jackson wouldve destroyed macho...had he came full speed outta the back field!!!...in the ring??? Macho baby!!!! Lo
He looks so cute on his baseball card.
Randy couldn't even hit .250 in single A. He wasn't going anywhere in pro baseball. Luckily, pro wrestling didn't frown upon steroids and cocaine.
