There's way more humans surfing these days. It is an unfortunate inevitability. Still less crowded than most of the "regular spots' back home on maui, or anywhere else that is popular these days.
Depends on camera angle and lens compression, lighting conditions. In this case, the aqua ocean color hues highly compressed against the dark green tree line makes for a very dramatic image. The incredible barrels were captivating too. Ultimately the cameraman gets most of the credit for making any scene photogenic.
Thank you!!! Yeah honestly I've love to go back with all of my gear and shoot in water, more drone, land with tripod, etc. Would be so epic to capture this with a team!
@@ConnorTrimble Beyond the “photogenic” chat, this was truly an epic shoot. If you add a team of shooters, and it’s better than this, you’ll have to market it beyond youtube.
Don't even bother with that crowd unless you're a pro that can take off deeper, or know everyone. Notice it's all locals getting all the waves: 5 locals; 5 wave set; believe me, they do NOT share. Visitors used to line up so everyone would get a chance; the when the waves are all time like this, the locals and pros will just paddle past everyone.
I think a big part of it was that there were really only 5 guys that could ride the wave really well. Most people out were actually intermediate surfers in over their heads. It was pretty big and heavy this day. But yeah the crowds can be kind of gnarly there unfortunately.
Yeah, but if you fall on that inside section and get pushed in pretty far, it's only 1-2 feet of water over shallow reef which is pretty sketchy. Cuts all over my knees and feet can attest to it haha
@@ConnorTrimble Great wipeout. It was way smaller and was barreling in front of the inside rock. We got some small but clean and long barrels, One guy did get wacked by a clean up set and he got roughed up pretty good. One of my favorite waves for sure.
@@EdwinLap haha it was a rough ones we scored a couple of smaller cleaner days here too! Overall, amazing wave though. That inside super shallow section still kind of freaks me out a bit though
@@ConnorTrimble Got the barrel of my life ate EBay. I remember taking off way behind the 2 big rocks that was there in 04 - pre earthquake. (When did the 2 big rocks break up? Was it the Boxing day 04 quake?) Barely had time to bottom turn and i locked in for 3 distinct sections and only deciding to come out when I couldn't physically fit the barrel anymore and just came out over the shoulder. Was so stoked my mate saw me, but the unexpected roar from the surrounding boats still gives me goosebumps today lol. Went there on the Irish Mist with Capt Jorge lol. Wilds times!
@@ConnorTrimble ai went through all the effort to make robot surfers and synthetic waves… shits getting really crazy. Haha but for real this is amazing surfing 😍
The most amazing thing in this vid is the crowd. 30 guys on a Mentawai wave. When business takes over on adventure.

Beautiful film...what a day, what a wave! Very enjoyable mix of boat and drone shots...splendid edit!
Thank you!! Edits from Bali and Tahiti that are similar coming soon :)
Love it Connor!!!! 17th August was one of the day we never forget forever !!!
Thank you guys for the footage and the great trip!
Damn CT these are epic shots!!! Love the edit! 💯
Thank you!!!
sick score!! good on ya!! that wave looks so good!
For sure! So lucky we scored haha just pure dumb luck
What a wave...both spots Kandui & Ebay are epic waves on good swells..thanks for sharing...
100%! I think which is better depends on your opinion of what a good wave is for sure
cool it's not too crowded!
Super
Green Bush is my favorite wave I've never surfed
Vacation of a lifetime. Enjoy it.
100%, great trip for sure!
Almost looks like Nias as a lefthander.
Didn't think of that, but you're 100% right
Ha, thinking that too, Nias from right side shooting toward tree line
Super dreamy day

@@bwhit716 Thank you! Honestly I was thinking the same thing. We'll see what I can cook up for the North Shore season here on Oahu!
Was that Craig Anderson?
His name is Riku, he surfs for Hayden shapes and is the Alaia Mentawai surf guide. He’s got crazy style for sure!
@@ConnorTrimble steeze-meister! Is he Australian too?
@@tonybarwickmaui he’s actually 18, from Japan. Check out his Instagram @matsu_riku119

One of the best waves of my life was at e-bay; but that was a decade ago with maybe 10-12 guys out; and it was still 2 hours to get one wave.

The exit looks a lot friendlier than Greenbush does that's for sure

Wat song ?
Song info and links are in the bio. But everything is by Sol Del Sur :)
We surfed Ebay in 2005...Half that size :)
Epic! Probably a lot safer too haha
@@ConnorTrimble Yeah and even then that wave will catch you.
@@EdwinLap 100% I got absolutely smoked haha if you check out 3:25, that's actually me attempting to surf it.

Definitely more photogenic than kandui
Yeah you think so!? Why do you say that? Curious from an outside perspective because I agree but know I'm biased haha
@@ConnorTrimble just the forest background and the water color and the shape of the wave is a little more perfect. Great color grading too btw
Ebay's reef is more even compared to Kandui's.

58 hours of travel there just to use AI to make it for sure. Shits crazy these days haha

Sorry too crowded
Way better than Pipeline though and nobody really dropping in on eachother
