Ted Ed, I want to let you know you not only are changing internet education, but you're inspiring me to believe in this world, and to live on with hope for this world. Thank you so much. I fear I'll have to miss all your future videos when I die, like I literally think about it and it makes me wanna live forever. Honestly. You guys are the best! I've learnt so much, and FELT so much from your videos. Thank you. So much.
Kudos to Team Ted Ed for always proving not just informative/educational videos but also entertaining thru superb animation! Also, the quote at first was deep yet simple if you really think about it. Really sad that our ocean are really polluted. :(
I heard about a system being developed to help provide new homes for fish when coral reefs are being damaged by climate change. It's something called "reef balls." After someone dies and cremated, their ashes are combined with an eco friendly cement mixture, which is then made into little monuments. Those little monuments are customized, engraved, decorated, and then placed into the ocean as an artificial reef. The systems helps to preserve not only their memories, but also life on Earth. As King Mufasa would say, "And so we are all connected in the great Circle of Life." ❤🌊🌞
@@spijkerpoes tank has to be cleaned as well as making sure the fish don't get diseases and they can easily spread through the water it's bloody painful and long that's why we should just summon the kraken
I have always wondered how overfishing could be sustained while not damaging poor fishermen's lives. I think I found it. Thank you very much Ted ed. You are always there for answers with questions hard to answer.
Thanks!! Super interesting and important topic. As a Chilean I’m aware of how dangerous industrial fishing can be; we’ve had a couple of major contamination episodes in Chiloe and other places from salmon fishing. Thankfully lots of fish farmers here have started leaving their production in lakes and going inland, and I hope new Chilean industries take the restorative fishing approach you show here! That would also help our local fishermen, who have lost a lot of their job to big scale fisheries.
Microplastics are so prevalent in everything we consume from meat, vegetables, fish and even water that fearing them in fish is like getting scared of getting dust on you from other people's clothes in a desert. Microplastics are a massive issue we are still fully unsure of, yes, but it's not just limited to the fishing industry.
Amazing video ! Informative and simple. Also makes me wanna learn more. And thank you so much for ending on a positive note with sustainable alternative. It gives us hope !
I really love these small videos and they are really easy to understand and don't bore. Thank you for uploading these. Can we get a video about Haruki Murakami and his works!?
You are doing a great job man, I love to see your videos. They are a great source of knowledge for me and awareness about environment and nature. Keep doing your great job hope you soon reach 10 million
Lmao are you serious? all you need to do is make a cover over the redstone and remove all the water so it doesnt get washed away, are you like 5 or something? this is proof that the education system is failing us all.
I was just watching this pbs kids show called dinosaur train and it was talking about how we shouldn’t overfish. Even kids tv is telling us not to overfish because it’s such a big problem.
Hi Ted Ed, I was wondering if you could make a video about plant-based diets and how it could help in the fight against climate change? I think it would be really helpful as all your videos are so educational, concise, reliable and influential. I hope you can consider this, thank you :)
"We must plant the sea and herd its animals … using the sea as farmers instead of hunters. That is what civilization is all about - farming replacing hunting." - Jacques-Yves Cousteau
Rice-Fish Farming in Bangladesh allows farmers to farm fish alongside rice and both can be sold. The fish act as automatic pesticides (by eating the insects) and fertiliser (by defecating).
Giant robot sharks which roam the ocean, capturing only some wild fish from healthy-sized schools. When full, they bring them to processing plants at the shore.
I think we should genetically engineer delicious and nutritious plants that can grow abundantly underwater. Essentially like seaweed but better. If we do that, we'll unlock vast swaths of farmland, or rather farmsea, if you will.
Another bonus is that the nervous systems of many shellfish species are so limited that they could be compared to plants. This means that eating them would be completely moral.
I can't remember where I heard this but one of my favorite paraphrased quotes is, "Lobsters have such primitive immune systems that when you cut one in half it literally takes minutes for it to die."
hamstermichael but this exist due to human consumerism & agriculture , ( although I’m just going through my thoughts and this may not be a fact ) typically animals higher on the food chain have high mercury levels due to bioaccumulation , so I guess the logical question to ask is why are these shellfish so high in heavy metals
Large amount? I don't think so. That's propaganda. Edit: Only some fish contain higher Mercury content, other contain only traces which cause little no health problems even when consumed in large. Knew you were spouting misinformation.
depends if you were planning on eating the shellfish directly or processing the catch to use the protein only. Could probably filter it the trace metals during processing? idk
No, that's not what they're saying, but you have to admit the benefits of growing them in regenerative farms are intriguing. And, frankly, people will need to make changes in their lifestyle if we want to combat climate change and other environmental issues effectively. A lot of those changes will be related to our food, by wasting less of it, and reducing our consumption of animals and animal products or switching to more sustainable products, like shellfish.
Lots of people are going to be very stubborn about changing the way they live to a more sustainable lifestyle. They've grown used to their normal behavior and many won't want to modify it just because they don't want to. Hopefully the younger generations will be able to adapt more easily in the future.
How do I find out if my supermarket sells any of those sustainably farmed clam and seaweed products ? Is there a special regional code or a small sign or anything on it, so I'll know?
I did a data analysis of the sediment distribution under fish cages in high current areas, we found that it was still getting too high under the cages, even when a hurricane pass through the are of the cages. When we publish our results they cut our founding.
Good video, but the problem with the clam and seaweed aqua farming is that there is still a high demand for large carnivorous fish, and most companies try to benefit from demand rather than help the environment
I can shorely sea the logic behind the idea. I dolphinately hope governmental organisation and private entities worldwide will explore this venture and clam down on illegal fishing.

*You also consume micro plastic along with the Fish*
😞😕
Good thing we know how to stop that - stop dumping plastic in the oceans :)
And then if you get eaten by bears they consume your plastic! Nooooo
