They concertedly monopolized the industry with the bottomless pockets of the Fertitas and now that the war is over they've absolutely done wrong by the very sport they helped popularize. Zuffa cared deeply about legitimizing MMA stateside until it actually happened - subsequently they've done basically everything they can to un-legitimize it. Follow the wider sport of MMA. UFC has a monopoly on attention and market share, but there is an immense amount of talent that fights outside of the UFC that just gets little attention. Fighting in promotions that are barely getting by but are paying the fighters an actual reasonable split of what is brought in - in turn being able to pay comparable purses. If these promotions (PFLlator, Rizin, KSW, ACA, OKTAGON and I'll even include ONE even though they're gross too) could actually dent the UFC's market share the UFC wouldn't be able to pull this constant bullshit like they've been able to for the past decade. They can do it because they don't get punished for it and there's no legislation in place preventing them from mistreating fighters (like the Ali act in boxing). Dan Le Batard is right on the money on this one. Fighters will easily sacrafice the 'win bonus of 100k' for a long term career where they can earn 500k if successful. In order to understand the issue here, you have to go back in time. There was UFC and Pride. UFC was not a hot ticket back then, Pride was where all the money was. There was a point in 2006/2007 where both companies were successful, therefore if a fighter was a free agent, they would go to the highest bidder. This worked out well for the fighter. Pride got into trouble with the tv company, and folded. UFC took over as a monopoly. So when you are the only game in town - guess what - you gotta play by their rules because you have nowhere else to go. So UFC decided that 'hey , we are the only game in town - we can pay what we want'. We will pay peanuts, but its okay - we can come up with this silly 'bonus' system to really motivate the fighters to give the fans more action, while still paying them low. Like Dan said - the bonus doesn't mean anything when in fact they would rather have a long term contract. And to really shove it in the face of the fighters, UFC will do bare minimum to promote you. Instead, Dana would rather sit back - and watch the talent make fools of themselves by creating fake fueds, pro wrestling gimmicks, crap talking, shoving each other in press conferences but hugging it out later admitting it was just for promotion. McGregor figured this out a while back and knew he could self promote himself to the moon - and it paid off. UFC did little to push McGregor , that guy did it himself. So fast forward to UFC 304. Fighters fight to not lose to keep their contract going. Dana wants it both ways. He wants fighters to put it all on the line, maintain their 'winning record', action pack fights, create gimmicks for themselves to promote themselves, meanwhile while all this - pay them 10% of what Boxing champions make - all while wearing stupid reebok uniforms to make dana even more money. So you got this guy who lays on top of leon for five rounds so he can make more money, and Dana gets all mad. On top of all this Dana White / UFC greed - decide to put on a UFC show in UK to expand MMA into europe , but have it American time so they don't lose USA ppv dollars. Like I said, they want it both ways. Now with all that being said - Dana should know dang well why it happened in UFC 304, he just will never hold himself accountable for a boring product. He will point fingers at world champions like a child and blame others for his wrong doings. Lastly, if you guys are still reading this - Ngannou made 600k for his HW championship fight. We will pay peanuts, but its okay - we can come up with this silly 'bonus' system to really motivate the fighters to give the fans more action, while still paying them low. Like Dan said - the bonus doesn't mean anything when in fact they would rather have a long term contract. And to really shove it in the face of the fighters, UFC will do bare minimum to promote you. Instead, Dana would rather sit back - and watch the talent make fools of themselves by creating fake fueds, pro wrestling gimmicks, crap talking, shoving each other in press conferences but hugging it out later admitting it was just for promotion. McGregor figured this out a while back and knew he could self promote himself to the moon - and it paid off. UFC did little to push McGregor , that guy did it himself.
So fast forward to UFC 304. Fighters fight to not lose to keep their contract going. Dana wants it both ways. He wants fighters to put it all on the line, maintain their 'winning record', action pack fights, create gimmicks for themselves to promote themselves, meanwhile while all this - pay them 10% of what Boxing champions make - all while wearing stupid reebok uniforms to make dana even more money. So you got this guy who lays on top of leon for five rounds so he can make more money, and Dana gets all mad. On top of all this Dana White / UFC greed - decide to put on a UFC show in UK to expand MMA into europe , but have it American time so they don't lose USA ppv dollars. Like I said, they want it both ways. Now with all that being said - Dana should know dang well why it happened in UFC 304, he just will never hold himself accountable for a boring product. He will point fingers at world champions like a child and blame others for his wrong doings.
Lastly, if you guys are still reading this - Ngannou made 600k for his HW championship fight. He made 10 million in Boxing with Tyson Fury, and then 15 million for Anthony Joshua. Let that sink in. Come back and tell me Dana is the 'savior' of MMA in modern era. I'll laugh at you for hours. Dana made you guys all suckers while he gambles a million at black jack and slaps the crap out of his wife in public. Boxing - a sport that mindless UFC fans claim has been dying for the past 30 years is continuing to be the best combat sport for fighters to get involved with due to the amount of money they could make versus UFC (U FIGHT CHEAP).
