Ah man, Bruce and his guitar. The green light of the face of the guitar brings back so many fond memories of sitting in a dark theater listening to his gift of music.

As if he sang this song straight to my soul. He put the quarter in the juke box of my spirit and hit the button... A song so magical it defines what the song is about... Without God what would there be... how would it be.. For a man to define that in a song... and speak to those who listen... To be present to experience this... A miracle in this world of wonders.. Not a moment taken for granted..
I think it was the fall of '78. We had just returned to Humboldt State after summer break. A few of my friends met and Jeff said "I've got something you're going to love, Craig". He then proceeded to place Dancing in the Dragon's Jaw on the turntable. The first I ever heard of Bruce was "Creation Dream". 40+ years later, he is still my favorite. Thanks Jeff!
I discovered Bruce's music when I was18, still in high school in 79'. My sister took me a to a small show on campus in Calgary and I was hooked. Dancing in the Dragon's jaw was a hugely influential album for me as well. A few years later I was on a long cycling trip down the Oregon and California coast. Another cyclist around my age found out I was Canadian and asked me - "Hey do you know about Bruce Cockburn's music 'cause you kind of look like him." Of course I told him of my Bruce love affair and then he proceded to tell me he had been in the hospital a year ago, not far from death by cancer. A friend brought him the Dragon's Jaw album and he played it non stopped. He credited the album for saving his life, touching his spirit deeply and calling him back to live in this world. He too became a BC convert. How many of us have been so positively and so deeply impacted by this man's work?
I had Stealing Fire in the 80's and then lost track of Bruce until this year. Now he has become my obsession, I find these live performances so superior to the original recordings and I play them constantly. They fill a need I feel in my soul.
I take the time to wonder about this world of wonders ... in search of a truth ... which God already knows ... but which I have yet to discover for myself . There is nothing which tickles my fancy more ... than to discover a truth about this wondrous world . Bruce's song " World of Wonders " sends me down that path of discovery every time .
I saw Bruce play this on a small stage at Vancouver Folk Fest 10+ years ago and I've been dreaming of the performance ever since. This is exactly it and in a lifetime of loving his music this covers it all. Thanks for the post.
That comment reminds me of a bio of Cockburn where some of the most successful Canadian guitarists of the 80's had only heard him on recordings so when they got the chance, they went to see him live and thought they'd figure out what his secret was to get the '2 guitar' sound and the complexity of his picking. They had to laugh at themselves when the show started. One of them said, "Damn it, he's doing it all himself with no effects plugged in." That must have been how Clapton felt the night he heard Hendrix for the first time. He later told Chas Chandler, "You didn't tell me he was THAT f'ing good!
I saw him in concert shortly after 'Breakfast in New Orleans, Dinner in Timbuktu' came out. I was completely blown away. 4 people sounded like 10. All impeccable.

It's a Manzer guitar especially made for him by a canadian luthier. I would trade in without reservations my Martin D28 to have a creature like that sit on my lap any day. A helluva instrument, stellar craftsmanship and everything that goes with it.

Bruce is one of the Wonders of the world.
amen to that

Very well expressed, so poignant. The power of music, what a wonder.
Yes indeed!
We stand here dazzled with our heart in flames as well!

Bruce is my forever hero!
What a unique, talented, gifted and beautiful man! Can't wait to see him again...and again! One of the very best!!
Beautiful, musical planet earth poetry
I really enjoy Bruce' singing.. takes me back decades..as last time I saw him was at an outdoor cafe on College st in Toronto in late 1990's
Amazing musicianship and deeply meaningful lyrics-- Bruce Cockburn's music is an inspiration to me always
I just saw him in Ithaca, NY in Feb. He approached the "stage" bent over with 2 canes for support. But boy can he sing and play guitar!!!!
Sounds like 2 guitars playing at once. Amazing...
yeah, he does that a lot
I believe his guitar has stereo outputs - note the 2 cords plugged into it.
You should be sitting 5 feet in front of him, watching him play. truly magical.

He's maintaining the song all alone, just like a locomotive, only with his guitar and his voice.
The world of wonders made me travelling.
Fantastic! Absolutely stunning acoustic guitar!
I never thought a green guitar could sound that good.

Someone asked Eddie Van Halen what it was like to be the world's best guitarist, and he said " I don't know; ask Bruce Cockburn."
The best. That's all.
