  • Archival footage shot by an amateur filmmaker while visiting England, probably in 1962
It contains stock footage of the town of Harwich's Port, Essex: fishermen preparing their boats before fishing, cars and trucks going on and off a ferry, ships sailing in front of the port including Light Vessel 18 that at the time was used for pirate radio transmissions, people fishing from piers, and more.

It is from 1964 at the earliest, as Navyard Wharf only opened that year and both 'Oberon' and 'Lohengrin' were only delivered in that year.
The proximity of caravans to the berth indicates that 'Lohengrin' probably loading for Norway, which was a regular run for her at that time, and there was a large trade in new caravans on that service.

Do you know any more information about the service Oberon and Lohengrin operated? I'd never heard of them before watching this. Who operated them, did they take any passengers, etc?

Found this most enjoyable, especially, as I lived and worked there.Shame about the choice of music though.
