Rob William Rob, yes, I have been running on my partial without any issues. 6 miles is the farthest training run so far. Basically recovery went like this. 3 months off doing nothing but healing. 5 to 6 months building back up distance very slowly and busting up scar tissue until I didn’t feel the scar tissue anymore. After that back to my old pace and building up milage. I was very fortunate that I had an excellent surgeon that is a runner himself. I think that made a big difference. He does not use robotics.
@@kevincaraher705 I'm amazed. A surgeon recommended this on Wednesday but said no running and desk job only, forget about anything impact! Then there's you and others running, doing sports etc
Rob William well I don’t want to give you my approval to run because of liability reasons and I am sure that is probably the case with your surgeon as well. Just guessing. What I had working in my favor was that I had already been a runner for over 35 years so I had good bone density and I only weigh 165 lbs. I am also being smart and not trying to do too much too soon.
28.05.18 - Being 56 and having 2 crock knees, I was told I'd have to wait until I'm at least 63 to have total replacements. I've now changed my Orthopedic surgeon and in 2 days I'm having the first partial replacement done, her thinking was also why replace the entire knee when only the inner area is affected and I'm told I can expect 10 years of great movement before requiring total replacements, 10 plus years back on the bicycle is good enough for me.
I had two partial knee replacements one in 2008 and one in 2013. The 2008 knee is completely worn out now. The remaining part of my own knee has been damaged by arthritis and I also have arthritis in the knee cap, so I need a TKR now on my right leg. My GP asked me why I did have a TKR in the first place, as I had been offered the option at the time of the original surgery. I explained to him that I couldn't see the point of replacing the good bits of my own knee, just like the doctor here advises. My partial knees were good. I had a good range of movement, I could hyper-extend both legs and bend my knees well beyond a 90 degree angle. Until the arthritis got back into it, I had no more pain. I walked my dogs daily and the only issue I had was that I couldn't kneel down on a hard floor. After both my ops, I was up and walking with a frame the next day.
i have bone on bone arthritis in all 3 compartments, but pain is ONLY on the medial side. One knee U.S. replacement specialist said I need total knee replacement. My French ortho recommended partial. Then spoke with my DPT, who said that he rarely sees partial. Wondering whether the default procedure from orthopedic surgeons is total b/c it's easier or more lucrative? Thank you doctor for advocating for partial. QUESTION: has anyone has partial knee replacement while having bone on bone in all 3 compartments ... and had it work well in the long term? Thank you!
I'm trying to find a local Phoenix, AZ orthopedic surgeon who specializes in partial knee replacement. It's been very difficult, everyone I talk to only does full knee replacement. Can you provide any contact info for a surgeon in my area that specializes in partial. Thanks in advance, Regards Tony
I had a partial knee repkacement last Nov/2023.I have strength trained/ cycling/ hiking at the 3 month post op.Now at 6 months i am trying to do the run/ walk method , knee feels fine but now i have normal running issues like PF on my non operated side.I ran a 10 k doing the run/walk program and hooe to run at least a half a marathon by the end of this year.Knee feels great its just the rest of me isnt used to the pounding anymore.I do try to run on softer surfaces now.
hey steven i had the same exact issue PF. I think it comes with knee issues. I really recommend strengthening your calves, doing calf raises every day has helped me so immensely. And massaging with a small ball. After about a month of calf raises I can walk much more comfortably. Good luck.
I've had bad knees since I was a kid, severe pain and 5 knee surgeries including a distal realignment (which helped greatly for a while) but my knee still swells whenever it wants to, gives me severe pain whenever it wants to. I've had all the injections. Yesterday my knee was really swollen and painful and it kinda just hit me to talk to my ortho about a PKR. I've wanted a TKR for so long (OR amputation, only semi kidding) lol but my knee isn't STRUCTURALLY bad enough for a TKR. This sounds good. Sounds like it might ACTUALLY help. I'm 33. Loved this video
Had partial done 3 years ago, surgeon was aware of other knee needed attention,so here I am recovering after second partial, 6 weeks in,I can walk no crutch, but still sore and stiff,ok riding static bike, keeping up physio, might of over done it,and now have gout big toe ,so back on painkillers
Partial knee replacement is better in all ways, but mine lasted seven months. Two years later, after ablations, pain clinic, and fun sucking pain I just got a TKR revision. Rehab and pain are doubled. I don’t know, pay your money and take your chances. My neighbor has had her partial for twelve years.
Have you advanced to using robotics to perform your surgery? What about 3D printed custom implants? The research indicates that these measures offer a superior and more durable result for a partial knee replacement
Dr , I had a HTO about 11 yrs ago and it’s given a lot of pain now ,I saw the surgeon and he wanted to give me a TKR and I said I’ve heard to many bad experiences on that but he said that I had secondary arthritis,so he said you go for a partial knee replacement so I’m going for that and Mako robotic op ,what’s your thoughts Dr ,thanks 👍🏴🙏
This doctor really cares about these invasive procedures,at age 58 this is just what I wanted to hear. I have heard that PKR inevitalibly will lead to TKR within some years? or you can make a PKR last a life time?
BEEN TOLD TO GET TKR BY SEVERAL SURGEONS BUT SCHEDULED FOR PARTIAL....FRIEND OF MINE SAME SUGGESTION FOR TOTAL BUT HAD PARTIAL AND DOING WELL...MY SURGEON SAID. TOTAL IS EASIER ON SURGEON BUT HARDER ON DOCTOR PARTIAL HARDER ON DOCTOR BUT EASIER ON PATIENT..ALSO USING ROBOT
I had a partial done almost 2 years ago. Worse thing I've ever done. Your knee will never work the same with half mechanical. 2 other friend's are also having issues. Research it too. Tons telling you not to do it.
Yes, but it doesn't last forever. Then, when the parcel knee is done, if complicates the full knee replacement. He'd leaving out the part were they drill into the upper and lower leg bone. Then, when the parcel goes bad they have to do the full replacement and make it' work with the existing drill holes. It sounds good. But, I will wait for the the pads that don't require cutting the knee out and drilling. Or some how replace wore parts of parcel pads. Also, it is a not part of your body, you body can not fight infection growing on it. It must be looked at as a last resort, that the pain much and reduces your quality of life.
The problem with knee replacement is that they can’t do whatever they want after the surgery! It’s like a false tooth! That’s what happened to assholes who keep on replacing women!
Thanks Dan, My partial knee replacement is allowing me to getting back to running. Essentially that is giving me back quality to my life !
Just matters how u adjust
Hi Kevin, can you run with these ? How does it feel?

I have two partials, running and swimming regularly, I have run 3 Half Marathons
Paul Robey awesome. I need to have a PKR. Lose 30 lbs first
Enjoy it while it last. You'll need a revision without it a doubt.
Aaron S. Manfredi still going strong after 16 years
How long was the recovery time for the partial. I don't want to be off work for several months.
@@edchiffons5953 I was out of work for 3 weeks. Literally doing nothing, but rehabbing.

How are you doing now ?
I got 13 years from my oldest one and it's only just worn out and I have arthritis in the rest of the knee too.
Beautifully explained Doctor, that's what I need a partial knee.
My partial knee replacement is great Wish I would have done it sooner

How do you determine whether the wear is justo on one compartment? Via X-rays or MRI?
Have you advanced to using robotics to perform your surgery? What about 3D printed custom implants? The research indicates that these measures offer a superior and more durable result for a partial knee replacement
Are there better products, materials, for replacing the cartilage?

Isn’t partial knee less stable in women?
Instead of a total knee replacement, why can't you do 2 partials? Sorry if dumb question.
Instead of a total knee, why not one partial on each side?
Future of desen. 1 no brutality 2knee health

I agree. Wore it out hiking backpacking. Broke it then went Along with this alternative.
🇬🇧both knees done partial life changing full movement NO PAIN I think the Physio was tough but the surgeons skill will have a lot to do with success
