To answer your question about when this plays: it's during the demo trailer that hoyoverse makes when they are advertising the characters. Every character has had their own unique theme made for them and all of them are amazing at capturing the essence of each character. :) If you decide to do more of these I highly recommend Rex Incognito! (Zhongli's demo theme)

Ei’s Haiku at the end of her demo is one of the most under-appreciated literature in the entire franchise.
“Waking World, you seem
Woven from the stuff of dreams,
All shall fade away.”
It’s even more profound in the Japanese and I think the Chinese dub, since she directly quotes a line from a very famous collection of Sutras that is known of and studied by many scholars and students in that area
I didn't even know it was a haiku
And it's referring to the Sakura Tree, which was given to Ei by Makoto in a space outside of time in order to fulfill her dreams (now Ei's too) of a transcient eternity.
If I remember correctly, Makoto even says "...all fades away, and the heavenly principles..." so it is my theory that Ei & Makoto's story is definitely not done yet, for we have seen the dream, but we have seen nothing fade away.

This theme is inspired by a classic Japanese folk song “Sakura Sakura”.Most of Japanese learned about this song in elementary school.
As a Japanese, I’m really pleased to listen this familiar melody.
As an American, I learned that song in elementary school and I always wondered if that was where the melody came from
That song was one of the first I learned to play on the harp, and it always stuck with me for its elegant simplicity. Felt so good encountering it in this game!

It's already more than 2 years since Inazuma so I'm gonna spoil :
Raiden Shogun was created by Ei to protect the "Eternity" and shall strikes everyone who was a threat against "Eternity". But later on, Raiden Ei profound new meaning of Eternity and decided to duel Shogun puppet to change it. Inazuma that was once a closed country, now reopened for the first time in centuries, accepting changes and progression.
"And just like that we fade out"
The last line in the demo was literally "all shall fade away."
I really recommend Albedo's character demo theme, it's called Contemplation in the Snow, with Rex Incognito (Zhongli's demo) and A Bard's Business (Venti's demo) are my favorites

Holy cow! Once again, you amaze me with your ability to read a melody like an open book. At 0:55 when you mentioned "stillness" I almost flipped my table. How? In the Raiden Shogun character demo, they used the same melody you described in the first part. In that video 3 words depict this character's story - "nothingness", "stillness" and "eternity".
This piece is complex because it describes Raiden Shuogun's past, present and future in different sections. And Raiden herself is a complex character - calm, still and unmovable at one moment, she can be as ruthless and devastating as a furious thunderstorm.
Yeah exactly this! while she is not sneaky you cans till say she is like a beast on the prowl when she does not fight but then, when she springs into action she becomes the storm.
She is also basically normally very cold and calculated because of certain reasons, but when she draws her sword the fight basically gets ended in one swing.
Eh, don't overhype it, he missed completely with the assassin/ninja part and the "she joins us because she can see a common interest that'd help her to gain what she's lost".
That being said, i never expect someone to retell me the exact details of character story just by listening the music. It's just people here tend to bend the interpretation to match the story to sing more praises for no reason.
She is an assassin, bcz she is a pure warrior. Her role fits her, bcz she is the one who used to always be in front of the battlefield, not like her sister. This is if we talk about raiden ei's personality. But if we want to talk about raiden shogun, that mechanic doll, the music will fit way much better. Bcz raiden shogun doesn't have personality, basically has no forgiveness, ei builds her as a more ferocius and stubborn warrior since her role as a guardian of the eternity (she even won't hesitate to fight ei, her own creator). As for the ninja vibe, i think it's bcz the sound of flute. It goes well with ayato's theme too, and other inazuman characters as well. It resembles japanese vibe. But yeah, she is not a ninja. But still this music has ninja vibe especially in early section
@@Soundwave1900 no he didnt missed completely, he missed it but he did have a point but since there is not much context he just guesses what it is, she is not an assassin or a ninja but she is a shogun. and the puppet is a pure warrior machine that one shot people like that one big white snake i forgor the name got one slashed to death, does that not sound like an assassin to you? she may not be an assassin but she is heck strong that she can assassinate someone in less than a second. and as for the second part "she joins us because she can see a common interest that'd help her to gain what she's lost" is a guess based on what the music is in cause as stated at the beginning he thought that this music theme is when the character joined ur party so of course it missed it completely since this music is in a demo trailer for advertising and not when in game
and obviously it is not the exact of every little detail about the character story, but the melody hints it, hinting what the character is, its only a hint not exact details.

She's not an assassin, just a very powerful samurai, and he's welcomed to make mistakes while interpreting very vague music hints, I'm more than entertained by his attempts and definitely wouldn't do better if i were him. What i'm not welcoming is people praising him "guessing it all spot on" which he obviously didn't. Feel free to ratio me to death idc.
This is Raiden's trailer theme, the one that showcases her character and abilities. This music is one of the BEST out of the character trailers. IMO the only one that rivals it is Zhongli's Rex Incognito theme.
Did everyone forget about Arataki Itto's theme? That song is a banger.

I love watching tour reactions to the music first, because that's what you do best. It's amazing how you can infer all these details from just the music. And then you can watch the character demo to see if they match the idea you had of them (and also, decide if you will pull for them next time they're featured! LOL)

Once again, you hit the jackpot of guesses there, all you said about her is sooo onpoint (she might or might not be my favorite haha)

most of the character demos are actually insane, you should also check out zhongli's. raiden's is the best in my opinion, partly because you can tell that there's more of an emotional story being conveyed through the solemn melodies like at 2:47

3:49 there’s actually a video game composer on the RUclips named Alex Moukala that also did a reaction to this and sort of described that “more complicated than we thought” sensation based on how the chord progression changes one time and only by a few notes. It’s still familiar, but there’s a bit more nuance to it now.

This one and Ganyu's theme called Qilin's Prance are my two most favourite characther themes/songs from Genshin. Also, Hu Tao's is pretty fun and cute. A different vibe.
This song doesn't feel the same without the speech :D Check out the Raiden Demo some other time, that's where this track shines with sick visuals to par.
This OST really has much more impact when watched with the demo video along with the narrations. But I can understand why you'd prefer reacting to the track itself before watching it.
Also, you're absolutely right. Personally, I think her history and journey is definitely one with the most strife and frustration shown in game thus far. There's a lot of emotional conveyance throughout her story quest, more so than any other major character. I think a it's a turning point for players to begin seeing different sides to the world in Genshin. What's interesting is that we don't see a resolution until the very end of her sequence of quests.
This is one of my favourite GI characters' OST, along with Rex Incognito (Zhongli's Theme). That beat drop is amazing!
If I'm not wrong this was used in her trailer/character demo. They always make such crazy and amazing songs for there trailers. Zhonglis trailer song is maybe my top fav. Oh and Hu tao :D (my profile picture). But yeah this song just has an amazing mix of classical, traditional japanese with the flute and then a income the high hats with a crazy drop that leads into a crazy beat with a harp sounding instrument that I imagine is japanese. Then slows down. Then again builds and everything comes back. Just fricking awesome.

As you've been told, this is the music from Raiden Shogun's character demo.
Meanwhile, the music from her character *_teaser_* adds yet another layer to the character. Honestly, her teaser trailer is probably the best out of all the teasers so far. Unlike the other teasers, there is absolutely no talking until the end. Just music and images, a story being conveyed purely through visual and audial art. Her teaser still gives me goosebumps to this day.
Yup, Marco, just watch the Raisen Shogun demo trailer. The music is made for the visuals and visa versa. They and the voice acting fit together like jigsaw pices coming together to form a picture.
i love how they included the sound effect at 1:32 because of how powerful it is (refer to her character demo - at that point she slashes upward and creates a massive pillar/shockwave of lightning in the sky)
Some other character themes I’m partial to are ‘Rex Incognito’, ‘Let’s Go, Crimson Knight!’, ‘Dance of Aphros’, ‘Path of Yaksha’, and ‘Any Last Words?’
This theme was what sold me on trying to get the Shogun in the game. Every time I use her elemental burst I start beatboxing that sick beat. 😎
Since the first time I've heard this song, the first section only reminded me of "Sakura", a pretty famous Koto classical song, and then an awesome remix following it.
I've watched your first Genshin Impact stream and you mentioned that you've played Breath of the Wild. So I wanted to mention that Revali's English VA is the same as Diluc's English VA - Sean Chiplock!

But based on the just sound you basically nailed the whole character. I can't comprehend how you managed to nail it. You mentioned the word 'Stillness' which is the perfect definition of the trailer and her character. Astounding!
Raiden Shogun (Ei) is one of my favourite characters of all the game, besides Zhongli (Rex Incognito). Thank you for letting me relive the tale once more.

It’s so cool how you can hear the personality of a character simply from listening to a soundtrack. Love this so much! Raiden Shogun is by far my favorite character and when her trailer released with this track in it I kept rewatching it over and over. Her trailer and soundtrack is definitely one of the best so far imo!
I was worried that you wouldn't like to hear this themes, because this are not in-game music but still are incredible, this ones are the music for the Character Demos, a cinematic trailer when a character is gonna come out, and are like the presentation card to "feel" how are the characters, the music say a lot of them, I'm glad you are open to hear them too because there's masterpieces in this category, this ones are a lot better when you watch the trailer itself with the music because the music is made to fit the trailer and the trailer made to fit the music, I understand that you want to make the impresions and not watch the video for spoilers or other reasons (bc I'm also watching your genshin pleythrough and don't want you to get spoiler either), but maybe watch the trailers after make the reaction to only the music could be cool, if not, don't worry, you are still amazing in this content!

The way you says quick in out it's actually really resembles the way that she's an electro archon. God of electric and can manipulate the electric elements so she's fast as lightning, just as she says, lightning never strikes twice...

Ahhhhh another Genshin OST where you get the themes pretty much correct, even if its a short Character Demo OST (basically a trailer for an upcoming character) :D
Another popular Character Demo OST is Rex Incognito (for Zhongli) which is a similar mixture of Asian instrumentation with modern dubstep/beat drops. All 5 star characters in Genshin have their own Trailer OST which lends to their characterisation and themes which is great to see the uniqueness and difference Hoyomix can come up with in a 1-2min short form.

Some Four star characters have them as well. All of the inazuma 4 star characters have one.

I love watching these kinds of videos. Seeing another person react to something that often goes underappreciated in video game communities (the music) and fully take it in is really enjoyable, especially when that person is more experienced and knowledgable in music as a whole. I’m a big fan of the game, its characters, and its music, and have basically binged all of your videos on it. You make very good guesses as to the character’s story, style, and personality. If you plan on doing more of these, I recommend Rex Incognito, though there is a tonne of game music to pick from.
(Also if you plan on doing another League song, I recommend Aphelios’ theme or Pyke’s theme)

This is from Raiden Shogun's character trailer. Pretty much every character gets one before they come out (not just 5* ones), except for some that released soon after Genshin Impact first came out (Diluc, Jean). These trailers serve as an "introduction" to the characters, who they are, what they're all about etc. In my opinion the music you hear in MOST of these trailers is on par with the music you can hear in the actual game.
You should React to Xiao's Character Demo, the music there is just so epic and has a deep meaning on his Lore!!

This is the music from her character trailer/demo. It would be interesting if the next time you first react to the music and then watch the trailer/demo. Because those videos are amazing but also they portrait the characters very well. So far you nailed each character personality almost perfectly, so watching the videos to confirm you are right would be very fun.

Her leitmotif in this theme is similar to the Japanese folksong "Sakura Sakura".
It sounds like the menacing version of it.
You should definitely check out Kujou Sara 's character demo theme. If you want to now who Kujou Sara is, she is the Raiden Shogun' s army General and she guides them in battles. She is a very well designed character (and my favorite by the way) I really would love you to do that ❤.
One of my favorite OST’s from genshin is the “Dual in the Mist” it’s a real banger. Also Klee’s Character Introduction is really fun and playful.

There's alot going on in this theme and when you get deeper into knowing this character it makes sense and yeh, prepare your tissues. It's sad, happy and desperate at the same time

This Shogun's music is my favorite! Inazuma was really good in general. I always took my time in the story when we were fighting and just dogding to hear the music ^^

P.S. I think you should watch some trailers too, because visuals usually perfectly highlight, or should I say, strengthen the perception of the music. But be careful, there are dozens of demo's or trailers to watch but also spoilers. Both Liyue Archon Quest arc and Inazuma one are thrillingly good, exciting.
And most importantly, take your time - don't rush and fully enjoy the game's lore, mechanics, character's stories

Character themes mostly come from out-of-game promotional material, as others have said. Some characters have both a teaser and a demo with different songs, and some have an in-game theme that's different from their demo trailer. Raiden Shogun has a one-off story boss fight with its own music (which is what you already covered), a weekly boss with a different version of that theme, a demo theme AND a teaser theme.
I still think no demo theme has topped Zhongli's (Rex Incognito) way back in version 1.1, but the demo themes in general tend to be really good and have some fun trivia and some videogame music references, like the opening bassline of Xiao's (Path of Yaksha, though the demo was called Doombane) being the E1M1 theme from the original Doom or Hu Tao's being an arrange of the Luigi's Mansion theme. (That said as I think you already know, the Shogun's motif, and Inazuma's motif, is just Sakura Sakura, a traditional Japanese tune.)
The only characters with their own in-game theme(s) that aren't also bosses are Yun Jin and Shenhe (The Divine Damsel of Devastation for both, which you also already covered; They're not really themes but Yun Jin also sings in-game during an idle animation, her reaction to entering a snowy area and when you add her to your party, Barbara sings a little tune during an idle and Venti plays a lyre during an idle, and there may be one or two I'm forgetting).

@@MarcoMeatball I'm not an audiophile so I do not understand the "language of music". However, it is amazing that you can pick out the "visuals" of the cinematic despite not having viewed it. Not only that, you have managed to pick out characteristics about the character, that is not evident at first glance, and was mostly deeply hidden in the lore. Does that mean filmmakers and composers accidentally spoil themselves because they can see between the lines that the layman cannot?
It is essentially a literary analysis the same way a filmmaker analyzes filming techniques and styles to evoke an emotion. I may not understand what you understood, but it was truly educational.

Only just been getting into Genshin, like the past two or so weeks, but wow I’ve been sleeping on the soundtrack. Usually I play while also watching RUclips or Twitch but I’ll have to drop the headphones when the music starts from now on
I also started like that, and ended up lowering the game's own voices and SFX for the sake of the music. Since then it's been a completely cinematic experience.
