    Flails are a type of Weapon in Elden Ring. Flails have long reach and can inflict single powerful strikes against hostile characters, but they are rather slow.
    Flails can be modified by a number of Ashes of War to change their Skills or Damage Type, so play around with them and see what you like as you acquire more.
    The default Art of War on most flails, Spinning Chain, is not available as a separate Ash of War as of Patch 1.03. This means you cannot change the damage affinity of these flails without overwriting Spinning Chain.

    Elden Ring dlc is an action role-playing game developed by FromSoftware and published by Bandai Namco Entertainment. The game was directed by Hidetaka Miyazaki and made in collaboration with fantasy novelist George R. R. Martin, who provided material for the game's setting. It was released for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S on February 25, 2022.
    Elden Ring is presented through a third-person perspective, with players freely roaming its interactive open world. Gameplay elements include combat featuring several types of weapons and magic spells, horseback riding, summons, and crafting. Elden Ring received critical acclaim, with praise for its open world gameplay, fantasy setting, and evolution of the Souls formula. The game sold more than 13.4 million copies worldwide within five weeks of its release.
    Gameplay
    Elden Ring is an action role-playing game played in a third-person perspective with gameplay focusing on combat and exploration; it features elements similar to those found in other games developed by FromSoftware, such as the Souls series, Bloodborne, and Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice. Director Hidetaka Miyazaki explained that players start with a linear opening but eventually progress to freely explore the Lands Between, including its six main areas, as well as castles, fortresses, and catacombs scattered throughout the open world map. These main areas are explorable using the character's mount as the main mode of transport, although a fast travel system is an available option. Throughout the game, players encounter non-player characters (NPCs) and enemies alike, including the demigods who rule each main area and serve as the game's main bosses.
    Combat in Elden Ring relies heavily on character-building elements found in previous Souls games and related intellectual properties, such as calculated and close-ranged melee-based combat with the use of skills, magic abilities, as well as blocking and dodging mechanics. Elden Ring introduces mounted combat and a stealth system, the latter being a core gameplay element from Sekiro; these features are expected to encourage players in strategizing their combat approach with each unique enemy they encounter. The game makes use of a player character stamina bar after being absent from Sekiro, although its overall influence over combat was reduced compared to previous FromSoftware games that utilized it. Unlike in Sekiro, resurrection mechanics after in-game death are not available; however, some elements were added to ensure players' progression within the game.
    Miyazaki stated that the customization in Elden Ring would be richer, as players are able to discover different skills through their exploration of the map instead of unlocking skill trees as in Sekiro and differing from the pre-fixed weapon skills of FromSoftware's previous games. These skills are interchangeable with a large variety of weapons which, alongside equipment, magic abilities, and items players can craft using materials found within the world, can be used to customize the player character.The game also features summoning mechanics, where players can summon a large variety of collectible spirits hidden throughout the game's world map, including previously defeated enemies, as allies to assist them in battle. Similar to the Souls series, the game's multiplayer allows other players to be summoned for cooperative play.
    Synopsis
    Premise
    Elden Ring takes place in the Lands Between, sometime after the destruction of the titular Elden Ring and the scattering of its shards, the Great Runes. Once graced by the Ring and the Erdtree which symbolizes its presence, the realm is now ruled over by the demigod offspring of Queen Marika the Eternal, each possessing a shard of the Ring that corrupts and taints them with power. In elden ring, flails are pretty clumsy weapons on foot, but function much better on horseback. They also have similar shield bypassing capabilities as shotels. So all in all, I think they did surprisingly good work depicting flails realistically.
    To me it seems that you would get the most benefit from one handed flails on horseback, where the hand shock of using a blunt force weapon would otherwise be even worse. So if your opponent is too well armored for saber, then a flail might be an interesting option.

    • @PiiskaJesusFreak
      @PiiskaJesusFreak 2 года назад +2

      @@albusnightspring8057 yeah. With most weapons the moveset includes a forward step on strike to increase range. Flails lack that, so their effective reach ends up being similar to a dagger. And the moveset doesn't use the momentum of previous strike to set up the next one. Axes and hammers have the same issue.

      If it was less big, it would look like they just didn't know how big a flail was supposed to be, but they went that big to try and give the audience the same feeling of horrified "this cannot be happening" disbelief that Eowin was feeling looking at it....which only worked because of how grounded the rest of the weapons and armor in the movies were.
      That kind of "cross the line/jump the shark twice" thing only really works when they've kept everything else grounded enough that you buy into physics being basically the same because it's about getting the audience to be sympathizing with the characters _in universe_ thinking "that shouldn't be physically possible!”

    • @tracyblanchard7663
      @tracyblanchard7663 2 года назад +1

      It's a bit of a mixed bag. In open field comment, your standard length spear wouldn't have much worry just keeping distance and jabbing high or low. In close quarters, a flail would never get the chance to build that sort of momentum consistently.
      Its best use case would be as a sidearm to bust up armored opponents in a scrap rather than as a primary or dueling weapon if you've got the choice. Full plate is restrictive and could allow distance to be closed easily, and relying on a shield will be masochistic against a flail. It's a very destructive and dangerous weapon for good reason, staying out of its way will be the challenge for both a close combatant and the wielder.
      This actually does make some sense with Marcus's idea of it being a peasant's weapon. While it would require more skill to wield without harming yourself and couldn't be used in formation, it _could_ find use as an easily produced weapon capable of felling knights of a disliked lord in a loose skirmish, especially when you get the jump on them with a concealed weapon.

    • @PiiskaJesusFreak
      @PiiskaJesusFreak 2 года назад +3

      @@tracyblanchard7663 while it could easily be manufactured by peasants, I could also see a knight wielding it on battlefield, specifically on horseback. It is difficult to block, it delivers blunt force trauma even through armor, it doesn't get stuck in enemies like a blade would and it doesn't shock your hand or compromise your balance like mace in similar situation would. You'd probably still use Lance as the primary weapon, but on horseback it could be a valuable sidearm.
      On foot the awkwardness of it would probably outweigh the benefits though.

    • @tracyblanchard7663
      @tracyblanchard7663 2 года назад +1

      @@PiiskaJesusFreak Oh yeah, the horseback utility would be considerable as long as you don't accidentally hit your own horse's flank. Definitely a cavalry-to-ground weapon rather than a rider-to-rider.
      I believe its concealment potential is especially considerable for a peasant, on the other hand. Just keep a sack with the blunt weight in it and the handle out. That way it appears to be a simple farm tool that you can use at a moment's notice. And as long as a blow connects in such a first strike scenario, you wouldn't even need to worry about a missed strike returning.

  • @nguyenp.nguyen7896

    Flails barely function in Elden Ring thanks to their poor moveset and bad poise damage. Also the Nightrider Flail does have the heads attached to separate chains attached to the main chain and they do tangle together in game thanks to poor clipping. It is class of weapon that only is being used at it peak when the chain or rope is under tension, like when the ball is spinning. If you ever landed a hit with it though it would probably be the fight decider. At speed a flail head hitting say full plate armor would fold it like mace on roids.

If your a spear man you lost your spear what would take up less space/weight a short sword or flail? Now maybe just use a mace but with a mace you cannot get the length a chain would provide. The flails in Polan or "cep" were not exactly regular ball flails. Peasants used flails to FLAIL at wheat and whatnot, but their design was more of a long stick with another shorter stick attached by chain. Think two handed flail. Flails were prevelent as improvised weapons, but during larger insurections were replaced by war scythes (scythes with the blade turned up) as they were not exactly useful against any sort of armor or particularly deadly.

    There are actually enemies with kusari gamas, they are the tiny enemies that also carry the pole shotels and pole saws

    • @charlieholmes3147
      @charlieholmes3147 2 года назад

      Should I assume that the pole saws are something other than what you use to trim tree branches with? I know tree trimming tools have proven to be effective weapons before, but a saw at the end of a 10' pole that telescopes out to almost 20' doesn't seem like it would work well

    Is a flail more effective than a kudarigma?

  • @dynamicworlds1
    @dynamicworlds1 2 года назад

    The flail seems to me to fall into this weird little niche of weapons that are only effective as long as they're rare enough that no-one you're going up against really knows how to counter them.
    If you can beat your opponent while they're still trying to figure out how to counter it and are liable to make mistakes and not account for how you can make it wrap around their guard, you have an advantage, but if they've trained on how to fight against one and know the tricks you can do with it, suddenly you just lost a massive advantage.
    To a lesser degree, I can say that using a highly curved sword against people who've only ever trained with and against straight swords can leave them fumbling around like novices trying to keep up with the different ways they can be used and even have their trained reflexes work against them as their practiced block fails to adjust for how a false-edge cut reaches around their guard.

    well for what's it worth, the actual enemy in elden ring that uses the flail, uses it while holding it in two hands, while on the ground, on both feet. its a shame that the player cant use it the same way - in the same stance as the enemy does....

    If you don't have any elden ring video to make but you want to continue those sort of vide I gess you could just do some other from soft game. May get repetitive with the dark Souls series but ye if you don't have something else... Beginning with bloodborn can make a change maybe.

    The recent discussions about whether flails and other flexible weapons are viable weapons or not is bizarre, and largely seems to revolve around arguments that amount to either strange conspiracy like theories, and poor understandings of science.
    I just don't get why this ever came up as widespread as it has? Sure they're not as useful as other weapons in certain scenarios, but most all weapons tend to have such weaknesses and strengths in different situations. Doesn't make them not real.
