Unfortunately it’s not just university. It’s the education system as a whole. It’s so flawed. University is a business at the end of the day. All they want is your business. I’m a middle school teacher and it’s a MUST to make the content engaging due to their poor attention spans. I believe college is not engaging because at that age (18+) the students brains are at a capacity to learn by PowerPoint slides and lecture. I do believe it’s possible for professors to make the content engaging, they just don’t want to or don’t have the motivation to. :/ I do encourage you to talk with the professors and dean to voice your opinion and hopefully make a change! 💪🏽

As a 24 yr old, I have seen and believe that the older generation is stuck in “this is the way we do it” as well as I would argue most are not welcoming/accepting to change.
I’m glad to hear you’re going to talk to the dean. Please give us an update!
I graduated high school quite unsure what to do with my life. I got a full-time job and enjoyed making the money rather than spending it at a college. Fast forward to today, I am learning for free on youtube from Yale Professors, picking up solid books from my local library on the subject and field I’m getting into. I will not go to college for a degree. The world is changing, it will not be needed.
Universities and colleges need to make an incentive for us to go there. Why should we spend our money when we can learn online for free? And to your point, the business field could be learned hands-on.
I’m excited to see what you do with this problem at hand!

I was a psych major at a well known university in California. While I don't regret going (I learned a lot about myself), my experience was similar to yours about 60% of the time. There were a few professors who really did care and made the classes engaging. But there were some who really didn't care or know how. I remember my last year there was one new 30-something professor in particular who got a 3% approval rating in student reviews because she literally would just read off of slides she made and couldn't answer basic questions about the material. I can only imagine things have gotten worse over the years since then. As the professors who did care aged out of the system, they were replaced by ones who didn't care.
I have never really understood the idea that you need to study all kinds of things that are unrelated to your major to get a degree. The idea that is pushed is that students should be well-rounded as they enter the adult world, but I didn't buy into it then, and I don't buy into it now.
I'm glad you are going to try and meet with the Dean. I would just say everything you just said, but I'd maybe not call the professors "old people" because you might not be taken as seriously, and be labeled a complainer. Incompetence and lack of care can be seen in people of all ages, so I wouldn't push that detail. Everything else you said needs to be heard and heeded. I hope it goes well!

I literally agree with you on everything. I’m very hands on and i would love if i could even get experience in my field and im also studying psychology! I wanna become a middle school psychologist and also have my own practice and write books, make a video game, have a blog! I wanna do all that stuff but i feel as if my classes aren’t really encouraging ideas like that or giving me opportunities to see stuff like that

I could articulate all the ways in which I loathe the concept and reality of 3rd level education (even though I’m in high school) and doing so will probably really emphasise the message I’m trying to convey across. But I’ll just say this, it’s completely garbage, from my understanding half the time is just spent chucking you on to various “CrEaTiVe” courses which im guessing they just assume that you’ll catch onto one of them, ugh It’s actually incomprehensible how much I hate the idea of it, as you said, it’s miserable

I don't really know...they tell me "you need to go so you can get a good job" or "otherwise you won't be successful" that kind of thing, but to be honest: what is being successful? What does it mean for them? Is it the money? Or is it actually FINDING happiness?Plus, I really don't feel like I need a degree for something I want to do (in my case)... maybe there are a bunch alternatives out there, I just simply don't agree with this system. So I might just not go, despite what people tell me. I don't even care if I prove them wrong in the end, I choose to create my own path and use my instinct as a guidance .-.
