Back in the 70’s my high school our band director “volunteered” a few of us to do the music for a local college graduation ceremony and we did the March from Aida. I loved it then and still do.

OH, my mistake - after a bit of research, I find this Triumphal march is from the 2006 La Scala production by Zeffirelli - the one where Roberto Alagna was booed off the stage after 1-2 performances and the understudy had to rush on in jeans to continue the performance. The DVD of this production was apparently cobbled together from combining a live performance and a dress rehearsal. The main male dancer is the noted Roberto Bolle. Violetta Urmana sang the title role. Ricardo Chailly was conductor. There is much debate regarding the video direction, the incessant and obtrusive curtain dissolves and lack of attention to the drama and singing. Glad to see the correction. The conductor sure did not look like von Karajan.
Thank you for mentioning that it is Roberto Bolle. It is most unusual to see the classical ballet in ancient Egypt setting but it's truly spectacular as a complex piece of theatre
This SHOULD be overwhelming! It's to celebrate the greatness of a pharaoh-deity after all. I don't think you could go OTT with this aria, not if you were doing it justice!

In realtà il libretto fu scritto da Antonio Ghislanzoni, perchè Piave (il cui vero nome - voglia scusarmi, ma devo correggerLa - era Francesco Maria) era morto da qualche anno.

Since I was a teenager, I've loved Verdi operas, especially Aida and La Traviata. I used to listen to the triumphal march (also the temple scene) and would imagine the visuals. It was wonderful to see what I heard. Those dancers were amazing!

Years ago, I carried-in the Captured Ethiopian Treasure as a Supernumerary ("Super") in this Act, at Lyric Opera of Chicago. Our production did not come close to the Artistic Grandeur that is presented here. What a treat!

Years ago We visited Venice. The Theatro de Venice ( I might not have spelt that right) had two vacant seats for Aida so we took them. This performance reminds me of that one .I would say if you like opera go and see one in Italy. It was, as I would expect, was the best performance I had ever seen. (out of perhaps three) but the best thing was the audience. The audience naturally know all the words but they had that enthusiasm one might find in an English football crowd. They really applauded some spots and one could sense their feelings about spots that did not meet their expectations. We went to the bar during the interval and had a real pleasant conversation with another patron. It did not matter that we spoke no Italian and he didn't speak English but we did have a great conversation and I learned a few words.
The name of the theatre of Venice is La Fenice - one of the most renowned in Italy, with La Scala (Milan). Thank you for the beautiful things you wrote about it. Come back soon!
What an interesting production of Aida, I wish I could have seen the full opera! It makes sense, seeing this short bit here, to have an opera company doing the singing, parts of the Brass Section among the people on stage (for the fanfare in the royal court), and members of the state ballet company providing dancing and visuals too.
I keep coming back to this grand and glorious music and dancing daily. Absolutely wonderful and colorful Verdi work of art at its finest! BRAVO from the U.S.!!

@@dnslighter6982 Indeed! But it isn't money that lacks, it's imagination. I belong to a theatre group, it has a wonderful work shop for constructing, painting and storing materials. But set design is completely in the hands (heads?) of the most unimaginative people you are ever likely to meet. Sets are always, ALWAYS made of welded steel sections reinforced with concrete reinforcing bars. One way or another, these are used in every production. They weigh a ton and require multiple trucks to transport. Also they are unstable and have been known to fall over during a performance. Am. Dram. is known for its oddities and I have come across a few. This is the latest, it takes some beating!

Needless to say, I was the theatres projection and sound engineer. LOL

But it isn't money that lacks, it's imagination. I belong to a theatre group, it has a wonderful work shop for constructing, painting and storing materials. But set design is completely in the hands (heads?) of the most unimaginative people you are ever likely to meet. Sets are always, ALWAYS made of welded steel sections reinforced with concrete reinforcing bars.
One way or another, these are used in every production. They weigh a ton and require multiple trucks to transport. Also they are unstable and have been known to fall over during a performance.
Am. Dram. is known for its oddities and I have come across a few. This is the latest, it takes some beating!

Questa bella marcia mi evoca un ricordo carino. Un bellissimo ragazzino( Francesco) affetto da autismo,amava molto la musica ,quindi me le cantava o fischiettava..benissimo. L' Aida era tra le sue preferite..allora trionfante connil suo..papà papaaà.. mi eletrizzava la giornata.💝🌈😃
