This video is from the 4th evening of Sanremo, where all the singers choose a cover to bring. Angelina decided to bring this song by her father, Pino Mango, from 2002. Her father died in december 2014 while performig on the stage, Angelina was present at the concert where he died, she was only thirteen years old and witnessed the whole thing live. He suffered a massive heart attack and passed on the way to the hospital. Mango was a genius of pop and electronic music. 'La rondine' is an iconic song from the early 2000s, full of electropop overtones. For us Italians it was a very emotional moment, Pino Mango was an icon, even if not recognised enough for me. Here the arrangement is different, slower and more intense, Angelina's brother, Filippo, did the arrangement. "La rondine" is about a distance and the feeling of leaving the nest and not being able to find that connection with anyone, it is impressive how now the meaning changes completely (or almost) being a daughter singing to her deceased father, everything makes it all the more emotional.
It had such a special meaning for her, and all of Italy was touched by her performance. The meaning of the lyrics adds to the beauty of the performance.

Definitely, one of the most heartwarming song Ive ever heard and it does play in my ears all over again that sometimes I end up humming this song.

Her parents are two singers: her mom was the singer of a band called matia bazar, while her dad, Pino Mango, was one of the most appreciated singers and writers in Italy; he died ten years ago, age 60, in the backstage during one of his concerts. This song, "La Rondine" (The Swallows) was written by him and speaks about the incapacity of letting a finished love go away, and it's so fitting for her situation... That's why she (and everyone, actually, like half Italy cried) is so emotional. At the end the public chants "Pino", her father's name.
