So far I had a dna done for one of my three ringneck and it turn out to be a boy; would I have waited long enough I would have found out on my own.🤣 I bought a yellow one as a girl, time will tell, is only 8 months old and my Blu is around 2/12, for the way it behave I think is a girl.Well , God bless you, the family and the flock, lots of love and good health, ❤ Luz🇵🇷.
Eclectus Parrots are the only birds, as far as i know, that do not need to have DNA tests to find out if they are males or females, as the females are always red, and the male birds are always green.., Easy.
How can you tell what sex the babies are, especially at such a young age? I have always had/Budgie/Parakeets so when they're this young I have a DNA test done to see what sex they're. After their first molt, at 5 months old you can usually tell the sex a Parakeet by the color of the bird's cere.. But since all my Parakeets have always been mutations, (the offspring of parents who are a mix of different varieties), Telling the sex by the cere in a Parakeet that's a mutation can be much more difficult. So instead I always have a DNA test done because of the mutation, so I am absolutely sure of the sex of my Parakeets. .
I sent off a blotter card with a blood sample, but I've sent off eggs for DNA before, too. When you send off the empty egg shell to which they hatched, you can find out even sooner. The earliest I knew was at 3 days old because I overnighted it, and it takes 24 hours to get results.

We do DNA tests, but some can nest sexed. The only other way is to wait for a ring or if a bird lays an egg.
