    I do everything pretty much the same except for stink bait. I use old fryer grease on the ground and black liquorice bear gel on the trees. I also add vanilla to my spray. Keep it up!

    • @DanielSturge
      @DanielSturge  2 года назад

      Yeah here in this province all fryer grease gets taken by the government for bio fuel so its hard to get any around. If any small place is willing to give it up its already claimed. Cheers!

    I’m in a new area in northern Maine. I’m having trouble getting bears to my bait I think it’s because they are use to others bait nearby. I’m going to put some sweet bait high in the trees like you did to help get their attention. I like the beef finisher idea so I’m going to try that too.

    • @DanielSturge
      @DanielSturge  2 года назад +1

      Awesome. Good luck and hope you are successful! Come back and let me know how you fair out. Having too many hunters feeding the same bears means you got to give them somthing they want more of. The beef finisher and some sweets might do the trick. Some quality high carb foods and sugar is exactly what they need as the are ramping up for spring and ultimately hibernation. In a couple weeks breeding will be over too which will change their range and movements. They should be more consistent on bait in a few weeks.

    Bear made a really big comeback here in Arkansas after almost being totally eradicated in the late 1800's. This will be the first Bear hunt in my County that I ever heard of and I am 66. I have never Bear hunted but SO want to take one before going to that Great Hunting Place. The Question i have is this : We have a LOT and I mean a LOT of Hogs running wild for years, HOW do I keep them out of the Barrel ? I mean, They will knock down deer feeders, rear up on trees and such to get to bait. Also, what is the best caliber rifel for Bear. No archery season here yet.

    • @DanielSturge
      @DanielSturge  Год назад +1

      As for caliber I personally use a 30-06 or 12 gauge slug. As for keeping hogs out I am no expert as we don't have any hogs where I live but I would suggest elevating the food by securing it about 4 feet up a tree or in a way the bears can easily climb to it. Out of reach of hogs is still in reach for bears so I would capitalize on that.... however as I said I don't have any experience with hogs. Here we have wolves but they won't eat sweets. So that's one reason I use sweet baits too.

    Is 600 m in either direction to far from water? Lots of poop in the area

    • @DanielSturge
      @DanielSturge  Год назад

      No. Generally you want to be closer but that's not too bad. Especially if there is already signs in the area with lots of poop it means you find a good area where they pass through probably daily. And the days are not as hot now leading into fall so they are more likely using the water source to drink instead of cooling down. Come back and let me know how your hunt goes! Good luck!

    I just love your sence of humor. Was not expecting that. Lol.
    How many pounds of bait do you typically go through in a season?

    • @DanielSturge
      @DanielSturge  4 года назад

      4 bags of beef finisher and 4 whole corn with a 25kg of popcorn. I adjust my amount depending on activity. I still have about 2/3 a bag of corn and finished left after 2 bears this year. I also substitute table scraps as well earlier on when doing too get or increase activity. Then when game on the finisher is whats going to give you a great tasting bear. I'll feed them that for at least a week.
