I KNEW I wasn’t crazy. I heard this version on a radio and I KNEW I heard Coko. Then I go home, look it up and all I find is Tamia. I thought I was losing my mind.
If anything I wish the record label would have kept both versions and included this on as a bonus track for when it came time to be rereleased or reissued since it's over 25 years old now and the fact that Tamia's version is actually a remix
Omg I was looking for this version since the 90's ....I ran my tape in the ground and I would always sing this version ...I thought they tried to Mandela effect this version I'm like I know I didn't make up those extra parts lol
If you had the first printing of ‘Q’s Jook Joint’ (released November 1995), this version of Slow Jams was included, otherwise you were stuck with Tamia’s version. Also, if you look inside the liner notes, SWV’s illustration was included (as well as everyone else included in this project). In the later releases, SWV’s illustration was omitted.
This is the version I had. I love Tamia's music but I gotta keep it real their version is better. I saw on a interview that they were replaced by Tamia bcuz Babyface thought they were not the look he wanted. If that is true that's messed up cuz it's the better version. I love this version. Sing Coko sang.
Only a great songwriter like Rod Temperton could have written a masterpiece like this. Kenny Edmonds, SWV and Sir Quincy, you guys rock. Brilliant joint. RIP, Rod Temperton.
That drum machine sound is what defines this version from Tamia's version. Totally 1995 sound!!! My favorite version of all. Brings back so many great memories I'm listening to it out loud on Christmas 2020 with my family. Listening all the way into 2021 and beyond.
Coko was the original version played on the radio, but she was pregnant at the time for the actual music video, so Tamia had to replace her at the time for a different version that we've all known to be
That swv harmonize you will feel it I promise you that them women are beautiful and amazing very blessed tone together it’s a perfect blend I am glad they made mends we love you swv always
See, this is the version I heard when I bought "Q's Jook Joint" in 1995!!! So natrually the Tamia version has always thrown me off. Love Tamia, but I don't see nobody coming behind Coko and doin it better.
I have been addicted to this song for the longest time. But had no idea SWV were the original singers. Both have different techniques and melody in their voices. Love them both... Especially when Barry comes in.. SWV is last part certainly hot and sexy!!!
The SWV version was always my jawn & was pissed when they replaced them with Tamia. PISSED lol. Tamia already had the classic You Put A Move On My Heart on the album. Let SWV shine damn it lol.
Coko was pregnant with her oldest son, that's why they did the song & the video with Tamia. Unfortunately if you didn't get the album in 95, anything after that has Tamia's vocals on it. Welcome to the music industry.
@@astrogliding I'm tryna tell you. I hate the fact that here on RUclips is the only place where you can hear this version. I wish they'll remaster and reissue the album with both Tamia's and SWV's tracks included and released on all streaming sites
This version is my favorite!!!! The reason why I prefer this version is because of the simple, laid back drum beat. Tamia's version has a slightly more hip-hop beat that takes away from the song. I say that as an AVID golden-age hip-hop fan. Sometimes a song just needs to be a real "slow jam". There's no point of putting Coko and Tamia against each other. I am sure the switch was an executive decision beyond their control.
For a long time I thought I was the only one who noticed that difference in this song. The drum beat heard here was not present in the Tamia version and to me this one sounds so succulent and smooth. You can tell it was made in 95 lol
Facts! I bought the physical cd back in the day for this song. I was very annoyed when they decided to remove SWV and add Tamia, now that version is the only one you can find. Thanks to whoever uploaded this.
Bought the Q Jook Joint album and even though Tamia is on the "official" version of this song, SWV (mainly Coko & LeLee) can still be heard on the Intro track on the album and even listed in the credits in the liner notes.
WHAT THE F***!?!??! That’s Coko I hear 👂🏾 on this version and SHE’S F****** KILLING IT!!!! OMG SWV…WHAT!??? This version should’ve made the video….What’s up Lelee?
They rerecorded with Tamia because she was new at the time and Quincy wanted to help get her some recognition. I love, love me some Tamia, but I didn't like them switching it up either.
I thought it had something to do with money. He didn't want to pay SWV when Coko did the majority of singing. They couldn't come to an agreement so he scrapped them and recorded with Tamia. I've heard this version for years but yours sounds the most plausible Anyway Swv bodied this track
Hey man its michael from the group PORTRAIT. thanks man i appreciate the love of the music and im glad u knew how the original version went with TAMIA.BABY FACE, PORTRAIT and BARRY WHITE. Again like i said before lots of people didnt even know that we were a featured artist on there and that we sang all the backgrounds and was in the video....
Holy Shit you 4real? I love you guys man!!! Could never get enough of the "smooth" sounz of Portrait back in the days, I still remember wen you guys featured on Family matters, TIGHT! do you still see Phil, Irv & Eric? Here we go, I can call you...all that matters.... you guys r legends
BOY, I'M SO LATE! I just heard this(a few mins ago) from Facebook(feat Tamia) then when I saw folks posting that there was an SWV version, I had to check it out. I appreciate both versions.
I want to feel the passion give me all you got you feel that for real when coco goes to her note those hairs on your arm stands up and a tear starts rolling awww man
Purest love dope. like the more you give the more i want baby. Arrangement was brilliant. Quincy is matchless. Baby face Tamia and Barry killed it.Wow.
Ever since I heard this version a while back, it has become a favorite of mine's. Tamia killed it on the single remix version, but this right here....👊👊👊👊👊👊
Thanks so much for posting the original version!!! I only heard it once or twice and then the Tamika version was made the default version. I remember Coko was pregnant when the video was made...
The most horrible production mistake #QuincyJones ever made was removing Coko and putting Tamia on to mimick Coko's singing style....I was very annoyed when they removed Coko's leads
Been trying to find this version for years! Lost my original content. I like Tamia, but Coke and SWV was a better fit! Love the end when she says, YESSSSSSS!
i am not debating what you're saying but me being a huge SWV fan mainly for TAJ i can clearly hear the other girls especially taj in the background i think its common for the lead singer to go back and record background vocals as well and thats why you hear coko...also maureen whats her face was quoted back in like 98 or 97 when they were in sister2sister as saying "the girls became sister with voices because of their ability to sing and sound like one person..just some fact for the radio gossip
It was SWV’s label that blocked them being in the video and Quincy was forced to replace them with Tamia bc he wanted to release it. Bummer for the girls. RCA sucked back then, especially when it came to supporting and promoting SWV.
Me too, I envisioned the clip of the beautiful sistas in a dressing room sitting in front of three big mirrors getting all dolled up and wearing stunning dresses...I was gonna say sequence dresses but I dont think they woulda worn that lol another scene would be of the girls walking through an autumn park on a windy day wearing big mink coats - that scene is shot in black and white, third scene of them singing in lounge bar....wat a dream!
I agree with most of the comments, to sum it up, most songs shouldn't be redone, but few have been great renditions, but with this slow jams song, its like. CoCo did the original and Tania did the remix (great as well) but son son, CoCo handled this down... #lovefellowshipsongstress
@Zeakg They are actually the background singers in this entire song. If you watch the video posted on here several times, they are the four gentlemen in the background to the right on the stage wearing the black suits. I personally wish Quincy or Babyface would have shown them at least once close up doing their part, but I do understand the focus was to be only on Babyface and Tamia. Their sound helped greatly to make this song what it is. They deserve that.
The better of the two versions, even though Tamia is still my woman. This song had a great chemistry from the singers all of the way down to the production team. This song wasn't produced by DeVante of Jodeci but it did feature his production team on this which made this track a classic.

hehe me too cos when.i bought jook joint it was Tamia lol
🤣🤣

I've only ever heard this version on the radio.
Co Co #1♥️love them all though
Coko’s voice is like no other.
Coko murdered every lyric…but my favorite….”baby…tonight’s your night!!!!!” 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Koko, Taj, and LeLe done this song justice!! IDC IDC lol. My absolute favorite version
I never knew this version existed. Tamia was really good. This one is even better
Omg I was looking for this version since the 90's ....I ran my tape in the ground and I would always sing this version ...I thought they tried to Mandela effect this version I'm like I know I didn't make up those extra parts lol

Sherre Six I believe it. Babyface has always been a colorist.
Ty Ryans Mease This is was on the CD originally
Coko sound like she singing this so effortlessly.
And Is!!!! 🎉
Coko’s adlibs>>>>>> “oooo you comfort me like Shaiiiii yeahhhhhh” all hail the Queen! ✨✨✨✨
i LOVE that part!! 🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾
I'm hailing 💯❤️🌈🏳️🌈❤️💯✨️🤌🏾🎵🎶😁
You know she added that because she dated Garfield from Shai😊
SWV brought something special to the original version. Hearing LeLee and Barry White on the same song is hot!
Only a great songwriter like Rod Temperton could have written a masterpiece like this. Kenny Edmonds, SWV and Sir Quincy, you guys rock. Brilliant joint. RIP, Rod Temperton.
RIP!
Brings me memories of Isaac Hayes and his partner in "crime" , Mr. David Porter
Like Tamia’s version, but love this version even more. That SWV Harmony❤️
That drum machine sound is what defines this version from Tamia's version. Totally 1995 sound!!! My favorite version of all. Brings back so many great memories I'm listening to it out loud on Christmas 2020 with my family. Listening all the way into 2021 and beyond.
I agree.
Both Coco and Tamia are exceptional singers. I never heard CoCo's version until now.
Coko was the original version played on the radio, but she was pregnant at the time for the actual music video, so Tamia had to replace her at the time for a different version that we've all known to be
If you purchase the cassette, it was on it. That was the first version. Later they came back with the second one . Glad I bought the 1st one❤😊
Whaaaaat, first time i have heard this version unbelievable
That swv harmonize you will feel it I promise you that them women are beautiful and amazing very blessed tone together it’s a perfect blend I am glad they made mends we love you swv always
See, this is the version I heard when I bought "Q's Jook Joint" in 1995!!! So natrually the Tamia version has always thrown me off. Love Tamia, but I don't see nobody coming behind Coko and doin it better.
Yes...

SWV Sang This Song!!!
These ladies are Untouchable!!!
This use to be my best version of this song! Both SWV and Tamia did they thang. Beautiful song as a young teen❤
The SWV version was always my jawn & was pissed when they replaced them with Tamia. PISSED lol. Tamia already had the classic You Put A Move On My Heart on the album. Let SWV shine damn it lol.
iveywebb I think Quincy did that to promote Tamia as his artist more
Coko was pregnant with her oldest son, that's why they did the song & the video with Tamia. Unfortunately if you didn't get the album in 95, anything after that has Tamia's vocals on it. Welcome to the music industry.
Miss Nish guhl I just had to leave iTunes just to come here. I want to hear my girls!
@@astrogliding I'm tryna tell you. I hate the fact that here on RUclips is the only place where you can hear this version. I wish they'll remaster and reissue the album with both Tamia's and SWV's tracks included and released on all streaming sites
Hell yeah!
This is Coko who did the original but was mixed out for Tamia. Listen to the background vocals on this amazing!
wow, new to me also. Great song in either version...I'm amazed at how close the vocals are of Tamia and SWV...
Still Slow Jammin' in 2017.
The SWV Factor! 🎼🎵🎶🎤🎤🎤❤❤❤
Still loving this in 2018...Great Music!

This was the original album/cd version! 💝💯
Facts! I bought the physical cd back in the day for this song. I was very annoyed when they decided to remove SWV and add Tamia, now that version is the only one you can find. Thanks to whoever uploaded this.
Thank you for having this! The one and ONLY true version!
Yep and Kenneth sang it better on this one.
OKAY!!!! This is the ONLY version I listen to ever since I found it….
I like the Tamia version, But I looooove the SWV version!!!!
Idk, for me it's not Tamia vs. Coko. I think they both did an equally excellent job! I like Coko's voice and I like Tamia's voice.
I've heard this version for years but yours sounds the most plausible
Anyway Swv bodied this track
definitive version...nuff said! 👌🏽

Rest in peace Rod Temperton... Even in death you are still one of the greats.

bsinatra145
Yes, written and produced.
Also produced Thriller, yes that groove n bassline is a Heatwave member Rod Tememperton, Always N Forever song
So true!!!! Just brilliant!!!!
He also wrote and produced Give Me The Night and Love X Love for George Benson.
Coko sang the hell out of this song!!!
Still listening to this 2019
this version is wayyyyyyyy better than Tamia’s! ABSOLUTELY
BOY, I'M SO LATE! I just heard this(a few mins ago) from Facebook(feat Tamia) then when I saw folks posting that there was an SWV version, I had to check it out. I appreciate both versions.
Lol yep both versions are DOPE!!!
SWV and Tamia are in my top 5 favorites of all time, it's hard to choose which i like better... so i wont!
this version is great, i love this song.
I want to feel the passion give me all you got you feel that for real when coco goes to her note those hairs on your arm stands up and a tear starts rolling awww man
Sounds sooo good.. real music!
Ok so this is my first time hearing this version 🔥🔥🔥
It is a really emotional take and I love it very much 💖
I love both versions because the ladies' voices are awesome...but this one stands out a little more to me.
This Is Swv This This Real Music Tamia Babyface
Purest love dope. like the more you give the more i want baby. Arrangement was brilliant. Quincy is matchless. Baby face Tamia and Barry killed it.Wow.
Ever since I heard this version a while back, it has become a favorite of mine's. Tamia killed it on the single remix version, but this right here....👊👊👊👊👊👊
Places and bring forward Exodus 33:2
And Proverbs 3:5;6
As per the secret service formula for the update on the mix.
my sentiments exactly. I totally wanna relive the 90s for that very same reason;-(
Thanks so much for posting the original version!!! I only heard it once or twice and then the Tamika version was made the default version. I remember Coko was pregnant when the video was made...
I hadn't heard this song in years then it came on the radio yesterday went to Itunes and couldn't find it anywhere.
This version is a million times better than Tamia's..but I like that one too
Tem million times better too
when i bought the album in 96/97, it had SWV... it was so sad that it came out with Tamia...
Love Tamia but I prefer this one
its SVW and Portrait, you can hear them too. Thats why this version is so much better.
Yes
This is the best version of this song!!! Black is Beautiful all the time!!!
I Love this version, its so hard to find! I heard it once and couldnt find it since. Thanks for posting Zeebo! :)
What if SWV and Tamia were to all do a versus on this song in 2021? Man that would be fye!!
i learned something new today
Me 2!
What?
Tamia’s was like easy listening, adult contemporary because her voice is beautiful but soft. Coko’s has some edge and funk in it, raw.
this… is a perfect description
Yes, I agree! Your comment was brilliant, all encompassing!
I always liked this version better, even tho I like Tamia..Coko's voice fit better!
Rod Temperton’s pen 🔥🔥🔥
been looking for this version for years...by far the best one! thanks for posting! 👍
Wow never knew this was the original, nice
The most horrible production mistake #QuincyJones ever made was removing Coko and putting Tamia on to mimick Coko's singing style....I was very annoyed when they removed Coko's leads
I agree
Love Tamia but I agree
Been trying to find this version for years! Lost my original content. I like Tamia, but Coke and SWV was a better fit! Love the end when she says, YESSSSSSS!
yassss honey dat b lelee and her come shag me down the telephone voice
Zeebo89SWV lol
I love lelee part at the end of this song it plus the SWV version feels natural whereas the Tamia version feels a lil rehearsed!
First time hearing this version, arrangement has nice subtle difference's. Love both versions
Yassssssssssss Come through Coko
God knows I love Tamia but I actually prefer this version.
elleusive i was just about to write that...love tamia..but i love this version so much better.
I was listening to the tamia one and was like i think there was another one I preferred 🤔
CoKo kills Tamias version
Lelee sexy ass Pillow Talk voice got me brick ....... swv version is so much better
Leon verses Noel let me see 😂
I’ve been looking for this version!
THE ALBUM IS THE BEST OF ALL THE BEST.
Although its very small Coko and Tamia have a very similar sound, but I think I prefer Coko's version a little more.
My first time hearing this with SWV I like it but I like the way tamia sung it😎
Tamia killed it. She has a broader range hitting those notes. People go crazy over coco but she is ok
Thank for posting this, Tamia was good, but SWV sounds better for me
i am not debating what you're saying but me being a huge SWV fan mainly for TAJ i can clearly hear the other girls especially taj in the background i think its common for the lead singer to go back and record background vocals as well and thats why you hear coko...also maureen whats her face was quoted back in like 98 or 97 when they were in sister2sister as saying "the girls became sister with voices because of their ability to sing and sound like one person..just some fact for the radio gossip
I love this song by babyface an s.wv.an this is my jam right here an they don't play good music like this anymore
i didn't know this version... thank u
I like this version better.......It just has a better sound and good harmony.....
I love Tamia, but this was the best version of the song.
This version is so better!!!! I love Tamia but coko makes any beat better!
i FINALLY FOUND IT !!!!! THE BEST ❤❤❤❤🎽🎺🎻🪕🔕🎵
Great classic....
I knew they were on the original. I had the CD, but ended up losing it and was never able to replace.. I love the SWV version better..
This is the better version,I wish Quincy kept SWV on and not replaced them with Tamia to retread Coko's vocals

Love this song
KOKO killed it too , Love Tamia also
How did I miss this song?
They've got a huge catalog... ur forgiven.
Jonathan Meeks - Wow, never knew that mate. I'm a massive fan of Devante Swing and his work.
So I'm not surprised his influence runs through the veins of this 90s classic.
JODECI4LIFE 😎👌🏾
oh.. ok- ill have to track it down again and listen. To be honest I really didnt pay that much attention LOL Thanks for posting this version tho! ;)
Good music with heart and soul good combination [ duat ]
@santanamoss76 I didn't know this. I have the old one then. Thank you for making me aware of that. I do like them both.
