Shawl: What the Fade by Andres Mowry / Drea Renee Knits
Laura your right. I’m 60 years old my husband is 59. Everyone says how handsome he is. He’s very vain. Me however is looked at with pity. Poor old woman. Crap! I am blessed to be 60. My sister died at 54 years old from ALS. I know it a privilege to get older. However our society treats older women much differently than older men.
This is so true! (both age privilege and societal judgement) I'm 35 and struggling with health issues (I'm okay don't worry). Getting older and staying healthy is a privilege. While I cant do much about the health issue I def work every year on getting older, no pity in that! 🧡 So happy you're well, stay awesome!🧡
I am 70, hubs is 80. I realized just this year that my skin has been severely neglected. We live on the NC coast and are gardeners, we fish offshore, and we have a small cruising yacht. I recently had laser treatment to combat the years of neglect and an attempt to restore texture. If I could speak to my 25 year old self, I would be a dedicated sunscreen user…..not sure it existed any earlier. But like you I am lucky to have reasonably good health and can enjoy things that give me joy.
Im in America and its true that most of us dont have hot water bottles. Over the last few years sewn together wash cloths or hand towels filled with rice and heated in the microwave have become common. When i saw your faire isle pattern for the bottle I started thinking about how i could knit one as a covering that could be slipped on over the rice bag while its in use.
Oh that's an amazing idea! I have never used a hot water bottle either (i'm in europe) but I def have had the rice filled ones and they're lovely!
I'm waiting your vlogmas episodes the most! I don't find these boring at all. ❤ Your personality is the why I enjoy these so much! 😊 Happy weekend!
I loved your little bit about anti-aging. My absolute favourite quote on anti-aging products is from Caroline Hirons and she said “aging is a privilege not everybody gets” and I’m so glad I heard that in my 20’s because it’s made my transition into my 30’s feel so much calmer. Now I look at my newly emerging fine lines with joy knowing that laugh lines just mean you’ve had a lot to smile about 😊
I know you’re not fishing for compliments, and I’m so glad that voicing your thoughts was helpful! I did want to say that I thoroughly have enjoyed your vlogmas. Your videos have bits of wisdom, inspiration and coziness. I really appreciate starting off my day with these!
It doesn't matter to me if your vlogmas get repetitive, I just like your company whilst I do my own things 😀
As someone who also stays home, I look forward to seeing the rhythm of your days! I don't watch many vlogmas videos and one reason I keep turning on yours is because you obviously enjoy it and it's catching!
Also, your wisdom on aging and your son's tidying is truly inspiring. I'm not bored with you at all. Have a lovely whatever time of day it is for you!
I know we can't help our brain going those places, but please please please don't think you Vlogmas is boring!! you're my absolute favorite and I'm looking forward to the next video each day! Your personality (you always manage to make me smile) + openness about mental health, your kids,... love to watch it all!
Loved your rant about the anti-aging narrative. Growing older is fantastic, because the alternative is death. Literally
I don’t think your vlogmas is boring at all! It feels like spending time with a friend. And when I hangout with my friends it’s usually just at one of our homes 😊
"It's a privilege to age, don't let anyone tell you otherwise." YES YES YES!!!!! I totally agree with you about the narrative around ageing!
Dear Laura!! I adore your vlogs/podcasts!! How sweet your kids’ rooms look for the holiday…nice work! Also, one of my favorite expressions I’ve learned from you….”crack on”….just love it! I’m an American, born in the 50s and my Mom always had a hot water bottle…she would use it to comfort us as kids when we were feeling “poorly.”….another expression I love! Now, Laura Penrose, let’s CRACK ON with life!!😂😂❤️😂❤️p.s. as soon as my yarn arrives I’m casting on the adult sibling for none other than moi!!!👏👏👏👏
I'm glad you voiced your thought, because I thought when you showed yourself mopping your floor, "How satisfying is that? Cleaning the floor and doing everyday things." Honestly, I'm a mom of 4, so it felt like solidarity to be able to see someone else keeping their home together even when their sick. :)
Oh Laura, please don't worry about boring me! Please do what you enjoy during your Vlogmas - if it ever starts boring me I am capable of switching it off, just as you said. Not probable, though. Thanks for taking the time and effort of doing this!
N O T boring. This old woman loves seeing young people busily prepping for Christmas.
So right about aging - my husband passed away in his 40’s, so I’ll embrace my wrinkles and be grateful to be 62!
turning Americans on to hot water bottles one cover at a time!! Not boring, just wonderful company while frantically knitting a Christmas sweater for meeeeeee!!
I agree with others. Listening to your Vlogmas is like recounting your day with a friend. Most of us have fairly routine schedules and that's just life. As long as you enjoy filming, we enjoy watching.
as someone who doesn't watch a lot of vlogmasses, yours is one of the only ones I do make sure to watch every single one of! not boring at all, my favourite part is always seeing your progress on your shawl🥰
Laura, I enjoy watching your podcast while sitting at home knitting. So, please know that your VLOGMAS is NOT boring….😊. Take care and enjoy time with your family❤
Aging is such a gift! When I’m having bad self-image moments about my hair going gray or looking different than I used to, I always remind myself that my sister doesn’t get to grow older, so I need/get to sort of experience it for both of us. Your vlogmas is the only thing making it feel like the holiday season for me! I like seeing what you and the kids are up to and, obviously, the knitting chat. When you first were talking about how you interact with the world and realizing you’re on the spectrum, I realized I most likely am too. It helps me to know I’m not weird and alone in how I feel about the state of my house and going places and having anxiety most of the time. ❤
Hello, good morning! I live in the United States in a little town in Virginia! Just got up an hour ago and was so excited to see your Vlogmas up! I so enjoy your chatting time and the way you edit your Vlogs is absolutely enchanting! Not boring at all! Thank you, Laura! Merry Christmas!🎄
I know others have mentioned it, but your commentary on aging legitimately made me tear up. Thank you, Laura. Happy Vlogmas!
It doesn't matter if it gets repetitive. It's not boring it's just homely
I also thought of a possible tattoo when you mentioned the ball of yarn metaphor. 😄 Which was brilliant and touching. 💖
It's a privilege to age. My gosh Laura! You are so right. I can't even express how that made me feel in such a relieved and positive way and thank you thank you thank you!!!! ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Absolutely your vlogs will never be boring to me, it’s fun listening to you while I do my stuff, so I don’t think you should worry.
Your company is always a pleasure ❤
That commend made me cry every time. My metal health is so bad. So these help me
From three or four decades past you …… I’d not go back in time and repeat any season of my life. I’d not change one wrinkle or gray hair for the wisdom I’ve gained. There’s a soundness and calm inside that I depend on…to carry on. Joy comes from the souls I love, and appreciation for the souls that love me back. All that said, I returned to using hot water bottles in the last few years. I remembered my Mom and Dad pouring boiling kettle water into them…ever so gingerly so as not to get burned. So “smart as I am” decided to heat them in the microwave. 😂😂 Now that I’ve exploded two in the microwave, guess I’d better go back to the kettle. Did not know about the ‘expiration date’. Many thanks
Thank you for Vlogmas Laura🎄 . I really think your approach is honest and heartfelt . You bravely navigate and share your mental health journey and it’s great to see how your knitting and creativity nourish you. For many of us craft adds essential balance in the midst of ‘mumming’, day to day & seasonal busyness and different life challenges with mental health .It’s great to see a glimpse of your day to day family life , gratitude and of course your knitting 🧶 ❤👏
Boring??? Your Vlogmas is the highlight of my day! 😂 Don't stop, don't change. Although I do miss the gorgeous sunset footage on the field. And the ball of yarn tattoo was my first thought after your story yesterday. Love it ❤!
Laura I must say your words once a month to someone when they moan about getting old! I'm 63 and grateful 😘
Your Volgmas is the first one I look for every night! Truly, yours is my favorite!! I don't currently use a hot water bottle but would love to get one so I can replace my electric heating pad AND knit the Maxine Hot Water Bottle Cover pattern!! Thanks for being real and putting your beautiful energy and light into the world!! Oh, and I absolutely love your yarn metaphor and will be using it in my own life!!
Not boring at all! Remember that the mundane to you is a new and fresh/interesting perspective to someone else! Keeping doing you🥰
Heej Laura, thanks for your thoughts again. You are so right. My sister died at 36 from cancer. She always had struggles with her body. So sad. I try to be as happy with myself as possible. Acceptance is the key. Oh and about the electric blankets; normaly you turn it on half an hour before bedtime and turn it off as you get in bed. The bed is warm and you are safe. Love your vlogmas again. Thank for all the effort. Every video is a moment of silence and relaxing for me.
Your blogmas is my absolute fav. No word of a lie. You’re adorable and fun! Just keep being you ❤
Love how real your vlogmas is! Not boring! Your life is beautiful because it is transparent…..REAL,
You are such a rockstar! I’ve been having a depressive episode over the past week. Your vlogmas episodes have helped me take a moment, work on my sibling sweater, and just take a deep breath from my day.
Hang on in there dear, there WILL be brighter days xxx
I don’t look at anyone’s vlogmas as boring I see it as company while I knit 🧶. I love your vlogmas though and don’t think it’s boring I’m with you on this journey through December 2023 after your mental health struggles. I love your openness and how natural you are. The merry Christmas everybody from your children makes me smile and when the chat with the camera. P is hilarious
I love your videos ❤ I giggled during your make up and skin care portion and you made me smile. I am 47 and while it’s different “aging” it is an absolute blessing
Would love to know more little tid-bits about how you tackle housework as a neurodivergent. I'm adhd/autistic (diagnosed last year) and love to hear what others with similar disabilities approach housework. Your friday morning clutter routine sounds interesting! Really enjoying your vlogmas! Its my first ive ever watched and its perfect to have on while working :)
Your Vlogmas is fantastic Laura, they are not boring, I enjoy watching them so much 🧶
Amen to the aging feelilngs! Well said!!!!! - Kimberly
I love your videos and following along on your day-to-day happenings at home.
You are never boring to listen to 😊
I’m loving your vlogmas, it’s the only one I’m watching! The anti aging commentary is spot on
Dear Laura, I don‘t think your vlogmas is boring at all 😊 it‘s cosy, esthetically very appealing to me and I must say it looks so professional 😃 personally, I am not into beauty products and make up at all. But as you said, then I just skip these parts and enjoy the rest of the video, that’s my responsibility 🤗 I am excited everytime you upload a new episode (and I am especially looking forward to the Saturday one, I‘m sure it‘s gonna be fun 🤩).
I am happy that you are feeling better and energetic again! I am still sick. But today the hot water bottle that I had to order before I can finish the Maxine cover, arrived. Yey🎉 hope to finish it today 😊 🧶
I understand you were not fishing, just sharing. Tbh yours are the best. I’ve ditched so many of them this year. Also I find for them I am doing something else so listening is best. Also take a day off, two, ten whatever you need.
I can't believe you had thoughts about being boring day1 came up randomly and i subscribed, and am now eagerly waiting for the next ❤
Hi Laura, thank you for your vlogs. I only just found you and today im bingewatching from number one. It is nice to sit down with some simple knitting. My youngest daughter got injured this friday and she is in a lot of pain and i find it helps me calm down to watch vlogmas so thank you ❤
Laura, I love your vlogmas! Never boring!! Somehow there is something soothing about watching and listening to someone else go through their day to day routine, especially us knitters who need to inspire each other to carve out some time to sit and knit. You most definitely do that for me so thank you. I live in northern Canada and love to use a hot water bottle although our pug is proving to be a wonderful substitute. 😊
Hi Laura! I've been following you on Instagram for a while but started watching your videos just now with this year's vlogmas series and I absolutely LOVE IT! I like your little routine and watching you navigate through daily life tasks with such humor and optimism, it's definitely not boring!!! every day I look forward to opening my tea advent calendar and watching your vlogmas during my lunch break and it boosts my mood every time! You're great, and such a motivation to keep working on my knitting! Greetings from Poland!! xx Anna
Truly my favourite Vlogmas, I'm waiting on your new uplaod every morning ! You bring such a lovely cozy chill vibe to your podcast, that even the simple everyday life videos end up being the nicest to watch, it feels really homey :)
NOT BORING! I love watching and realizing im not the only one...okay done commenting now, lol.
Your vlogmas is my absolute fave! Not boring at all - very cosy and comforting, and I always look forward to it 😀
My top tip for wavy hair is sea salt spray! You can buy it in the supermarket. I have naturally wavy hair and I just spray some on damp hair, scrunch it and let it dry naturally. It gives you those lovely post swimming in the sea type waves!
I really love this years vlogmas! I've got so many great thoughts, in the mental health department, in the home organisation department and in the knitting department. Keep doing what you feel that's suit you. I love it!
Your Vlog is my absolute favorite ❤❤❤ No worrying! I look forward to it and find you very bith inspiring and comforting, 🥰🥰🥰 (Also...I'm gifting hot water bottles with Maxine covers to several people on my list. They need to make a comeback in the US!)
Such good energy! It was so fun following along. So glad you. Got sleep. Hopefully it will rub off for me virtually, lol.
I look forward to your vlogmas videos! I can't decide if it's better to watch them as soon as they come out or if I should binge a bunch of them. I don't think your videos are boring, it was really sweet to see how your kids faces just lit up with pure joy. 💖 good night, Laura. I'm really looking forward to the next video!
I don't use a hot water bottle, but I love the grain filled cushions you can put in the microwave, bonus they smell delicious like fresh bread!
So interesting to hear about the hot water bottles, never really heard about them until now, and now they are all over instagram! 😂 I'm Swedish and everyone I know use a wheat filled pillow thing that you heat up in the microwave! Same function but without the risk of getting hot water on yourself 😅 Love these videos by the way! Your vlogmas is making my late night breastfeeding sessions a lot more bearable! 🥰
I really enjoy seeing your vlogs and they are not boring at all. I enjoy watching them while I am working.
I love your vlogs Laura! Never boring in my books. I always get so excited when a new video pops up. ❤
If I may add to the hot water bottle cultural exchange 😀. I, as my kids tell me, am an "old" (gratefully aging 60-ish). In my life experience in a NYC suburb, HWBs are *very* old timey. My grands used them, and my mom wouldn't touch them after the modern intro of electric blankets and pads. Like u, I don't like the idea of sleeping w/electricity, so in my adult life and with my kids, we use extra blankets while sleeping. For aches and pains, we use herb/nutshell and gel pads that we heat in the microwave because..🤔.. in the NYC area at least, if it isn't quick, it isn't worth it, I guess? 😅
❤️💚 from the States
I love your hot water pattern sooooo much I have already knit one for a gift and I will be knitting 3 more!!!!
I agree regarding the privilege to age. I always tell people, I’ll take the aches and wrinkles vs the alternative.
Laura. You are not boring.
I love the yarn ball metaphor, I can relate
I’m loving your Vlogmas and all the everyday Christmas cheer. Your shawl is gorgeous and I’m glad I get to watch you make it as I can’t add any new cast ons right now haha. Happy holidays
Oh Laura your Vlogmas is anything but boring! I love to watch even when you're chilling at home :) so cosy!
Catching up on your vlogmas and it is far from boring, I mean I also am mostly at home, knitting, taking care of kids, and working though. lol
I really like what you were talking about in regards to aging. I personally cannot wait to have grey hair? Weird?! Yeah... maybe! but I can't wait! And yes it is a privilege to age. My mom is in a fight against cancer and it makes me all the more grateful for everyday she gets to live and for everyday I have to grow older. Bring on the grey and wrinkles ladies!
Laura, loved your "get ready with me portion" today, such a great chat!
I love your vlogmasses. Never boring ❤❤❤ and I really enjoyed your get ready with me! It’s fun to see how others do their skin care and makeup. Thanks for your wonderful content. I enjoy it all year long. 😘😘😘
Bless you! I do enjoy your vlogmas
Never ever boring Laura you are on my top vlogmas’s to watch your content is lovely and so professionally done music is beautiful 🤩
Another brilliant vlog, thank you Laura. X
I love your vlogmas videos! I spend a lot of time at home too, so it's nice to watch some relatable content
Love seeing other's skincare routines. I got very into k beauty skincare about a year ago (i.e. your Cicapair....). I stopped wearing makeup Yeeeeears ago cuz (a) it never really did what I wanted and always ended up looking like crap at days end and (b) I got tired of feeling like I couldn't be perfect in just my own skin.
I love your videos! They are never boring! Thank you for sharing your life with us!! ❤
Laura tell us about the beauty box that you get please! Those products are amazing!
I thought you already had make up on! You’re so pretty!
Boring??? Nah!!!
My eyebrows are my nemesis, unruly with ‘moth-eaten’ holes, and now going white, but I paid close attention to what you do, took notes, and may have ordered one product to give it a try. So, a huge ‘Thank You’ for pointing me in that direction, and hopefully things will improve in that area
I love you so much thank you for being you❤
I love your vlogs
I love your vlogmas’
Your vlogmus isn't boring it's amazing your my favourite I also am a patron and I wouldn't pay too watch if you were boring so stop over thinking and letting that ball of yarn run away with you 😅😊😂
🧶❤️🧶❤️🧶❤️🧶❤️
Laura what’s a good water bottle to purchase? I want to your water bottle cover pattern. Thanks for a fun vlogmas video.
They’re pretty much all the same, mine are from Amazon but you can usually get them from pharmacies/drug stores x
I don't mind my little wrinkles. The dark patches on my face I wish would go but it is what it is. As a young woman I almost never wore make-up. Now I wear just enough to cover redness and the dark spots.
