Glad u liked it so much
I don’t understand how every booktuber raves about The Forgetting Moon yet it’s still not taking off. It’s incredible
It might be the cover honestly
I’ve never read it for a very petty reason. The cover is awful. I know it’s the story that counts and I do mean to get to it. The cover has always put me off.
Well I read the books and they are not that good honestly , the characters behave very irrationally, especially in the third book , and a lot of things happen because of pure luck or coincidence
@@Wally_stad really? I never thought they were bad. Especially book 3. It’s definitely not above average but good enough in my opinion. The German cover is dope which is unfortunate for me :/
It's literally one of the best books I've ever read. My copy of the sequel is laden with spelling errors, however. Which is probably why I haven't continued
Joe abercrombie has truly become a master of his craft.
I agree with so many of Matt's takes that him having GoT #35 is just baffling to me. Asoiaf is so wildly better than anything else I've ever read that it seems wacky that some random Wheel of Time or Mistborn book is going to be ranked higher than this.
Series is just so goated
only a storm of swords is at the same level as shadow rising of the wheel of time (volume 1 and 3 of game of throne are really excellent the rest is just good)
@@ifokser2816 wheel of time was so frustrating for me. I loved 7 of the first 8 books even though it was soooo repetitive and complex for me. Trying to pronounce all the names and words in my head was tedious. Surprisingly for me Lords of Chaos was AWFUL besides the last 50 pages yet its most people’s favorite book it seems. The next 4 books I just couldn’t get myself to even finish so I just read summaries then tried to read Brandon’s books and was pretty much too checked out to finish. :/
But I would definitely put the first 3 game of thrones books ahead of any book by Jordan. If Jordan’s books were significantly shorter I’d probably like them a lot more.
All in my subjective opinion of course.
It’s objective 😉
@@ifokser2816they’re all much better than any WOT book, and im a fan of WOT. Not even in the same league
@@tomutting9935 everyone has their own tastes, it's true that for me volumes 1 and 3 of Got are the only ones at the same level as volume 4/11/12/14 of Wot in S,
So obviously to hear that the average A Feast for Crows and the horrible A Dance with Dragons are better than this 4 of Wot is hilarious for me (I like Got but what I like in fiction is the characters and the story I'm being told and Wot are better on both points (Martin will never write a character at the same level as Rand in his story even if he finished it)
@@quintonbrown3784 yes I basically answered what I thought of Got and Wot with another person in your comments but obviously I can never repeat it enough "Wot is not for everyone" Jordan writes too much either we love it or we hate it but when we love it we realize the perfection of its story whether in the foreshadowing, the characters, the journey etc.
For me, you might as well stop reading as look at summaries, otherwise what would be the point of reading fiction books if instead of drawing magic from them you drew lifeless data from them but I understand that you were no longer interested
All in my subjective opinion of course.
WOT with malazan (and many series are better than Got)
It’s objective 😉
I loved the Esslemont Malazan books. I loved reading about those events and learning what the hell the Crimson Guard and the Stormriders are. They were great.
I added the Boneship series to my list.
Abercrombie, Martin and Barker works are awesome! I need to start Malazan, and you keep reminding me!
Your review of the Tide Child series was the first time I watched/listened to you because I had just finished it and loved it so much. Been following you ever since. Keep it up Matt. You are the best.
Awesome as always. Some 5 warrior Angel love I dig it. Started this year out with it and had a great time.
The five warrior angels trilogy is (imo) excellent! One of the most enjoyable fantasy reading experiences I’ve ever had. I’m really quite surprised that this series isn’t more popular than it is.
The first two of Mr. Durfees books on audible are available for free download right now so I think it’s time they fly up the TBR
I'm listening to them now! I finished The Forgetting Moon, and I'm about ⅔ the way through The Blackest Heart. I'm on my library's waitlist for The Lonesome Crown. Hopefully I'll be able to start it as soon as I'm done with book 2!
@@jessezigg how’s the experience? I haven’t started just yet. I know it’s the dude who did red rising so I’m looking forward to it
Absolutely loved this ! Gotta read Small Gods one day now,Matt ! :)
Great video! Love your channel
The only guy I give a like before I start watching, just in case I forget to do it after. Great job¡¡¡¡
Durfee really wrote a masterpiece. The scene with Tala in the secret passage scared the fffffffrick out of me. I did DNF the series in book 2 though because of the obscene amounts of violence. Im super religious and didnt want THAT much violence. But i was super into the story
Do you know the chapter with Tala in the tunnel? I think I remember but its been like a year. Great series, excited to start book 2!
In case you’re super religious Christian, The Old Testament in the Bible is non stop violence, massacre and genocide, it’s just not that graphical. No sarcasm, irony or disrespect just noted a fact.
@@coffeewithstas yeah for sure. Theres lots of violent stuff described in the Old Testament. And i am a super religious Christian. Though id note its a bit different reading something violent through the lens of scripture than it is for reading it as entertainment.
I finished The Forgetting Moon last week, and I'm about ⅔ the way through The Blackest Heart. I don't think I've ever read a book/series with SO MANY characters that I despise! At the point that I am right now, knowing that I only have 1⅓ books left to wrap up this story, I have no idea what's going to happen next! 😂 Things have gotten SO BLEAK, for so many characters ... I really need one of our POV characters to have some *small* win. I'm definitely forging ahead. I intend to read The Lonesome Crown immediately after finishing The Blackest Heart.
YAY! I've been waiting for this next installment.
It’s been over ten years since I read the Kingkiller Chronicle. But I remember liking the first one way more than the second too. Hopefully I can reread them soon and feel differently!
Matt! I could not agree more with you on the Kingkiller Books. On my first read through I liked no loved the first book by a mile over the second one. Now mind you I love this story and yearn for it to be finished. I just recently did a reread of them and found myself loving The Wise Man’s Fear so much more this time. It is my favorite of the two books so far and I was kind of shocked to find myself feeling that way. Like you the first time through I couldn’t wait to get passed the cringy part and this time I didn’t experience that at all. Anyway thank you !
Also in regards to Small Gods...i really liked it. And im super religious. I agreed with alot of what pratchett said. I obviously disagree with his stance that morals can be seperated from religion (i completely disagree). But its really well done
I only liked the first First Law Trilogy, but I then read Age of Madness and loved it- people who loved and only read the first trilogy should be ashamed. I AGREE WITH MATT, FIX THAT CHARACTER FLAW!
I'm holding off reading The Forgetting Moon as the final book in the trilogy isnt on Kindle in the UK, which is very frustrating 😒 so it's either wait and hope or pay £20 for the paperback version 😭
I was waiting this video!
I like the wise man's fear better too. I really like the culture of the lethani
Same ! :)
I wonder if Darkness That Comes Before or Warrior Prophet will make it to your list or they are too recent
The tide child books are so underrated.
I always like your honest opinion about books whether your opinion agrees with the big masses' opinion or not. I'm glad that you're not a blind sheep but a real wolf 🐺 👍
Forgot to edit out that cough at 24:15
😂 it was a nod to author/booktuber Brian Lee Durfee who does that all the time. He doesn't know (or care) how to edit videos so he is constantly jokingly saying that.
@@MattsFantasyBookReviews definitely no reason to edit out a cough
Character flaw 😂😂😂
23:49
Literally quoting what I said about the 'relationship part of this'. Super YA/cringey/boring and totally skippable :D
Okay I’m about to leave and buy Small Gods lol
Do it!
@@MattsFantasyBookReviews I went out and bought and read Small Gods shortly after making this comment. I recently saw a picture of a turtle, and now all I can think is that it must be the adorable Great God Om! Although I'm sure he'd resent being called adorable...or a turtle!
DeadHouse gates is one of the best books ive ever read.
