Remember: side-bets are pretty much pure gambling, and you should place them at your own risk. They are generally regarded as not being strategically-sound if you are intending on playing Blackjack in order to obtain long-term profit. With that said, they are still a fun option for the casual gambler. As always, play responsibly!

I play blackjack at a local casino using the Basic Strategy. I wasn't playing side bets for quite some time until I missed out twice on a side bet that would have paid 100 to 1.
(6-7-8- of the same suit) my two cards plus the dealer's up card. Since then I ALWAYS place $5 on the side bet and so far have won two 100 to 1. The side bet also pays several ways such as if my two cards and the dealer's up card total 20 etc. This side bet is my GAMBLING money completely separate from my blackjack basis strategy play.

The tables out by me pay 270/1 on the 3 of a kind suited, 180/1 on the royal flush and 90/1 on the 3 of a kind unsuited. Then on the straight and flush they pay 9/1. If you play just $5 on each bet that's $4,000 in one night. Now, say you do well and get 20 flushes, that makes up $1,000. Now you have $3,000 to make up just to be even. That's 2 3-of-a-kind suited or 3 royal flushes or 6 3-of-a-kind unsuited. And that's just to become even!

Hey! Dominic. I've always been told by savvy BJ players NEVER to buy insurance UNLESS.( and you've covered it at the end of the video) a player is a card counter and has a high True Count
so he knows there's a lot of high cards left in the shoe and the dealer shows an Ace for an upcard and it's very likely his down card is a ten giving him a blackjack. It's one of the
    variants card counters will use.

    • @AllAmericanCasinoGuide

This is totally true! This video though assumes the viewer isn't card counting, as its a very advanced technique. But yes we should have mentioned that.

The biggest component you are missing in this probability of each combination. This is the biggest factor of willingness to bet and play side bets. Payouts vs. Probability are a big factor, also think about the reason why Casinos have side bets to begin with, the edge is still way in favor of the House.

  • @jamesmoninger1982

Good video, but you are not helping your viewers by suggesting they make these high odds bets that have nothing to do with the game of blackjack. In the casino industry, we called these "carnival bets," and I think the reason is obvious.

It’s a good explanation for beginners, but you should explain a more detail description of the ‘house edge’ on these side bets. Not a single good BJ player is gonna bet any of them. Just because the advantage edge is much bigger than the usual 0,5 % of the BJ game ‘Las Vegas standard rules’, playing’basic strategy’
It can be funnier, but it’s not a good idea betting on side bets -mathematically speaking.

Totally agree, they are directed more towards pure gamblers, and not to blackjack players who are looking for every strategy in the book to beat the casino. But if the goal is entertainment, they are a fun distraction.

@@AllAmericanCasinoGuide That’s correct. Side bets are a good attraction to gamblers to increase their gaming time on the table.
Regarding to beat the casino in this game, I’m afraid it’s impossible if you aren’t a card counter. Playing perfect with the so called “Las Vegas Strategy”, the house edge is still 0,48 - 0,50 %.

Side bets are good but in my opinion you shouldnt put more than 1/10th of your main bet on any 1 side. Ex: $10 main bet, $1 on pairs and $1 on 21+3. Tends to give decent results without breaking your bankroll imo.

At the government on line casino I play at they have 4 side bets, Hot 3, 21+3, Pairs, and Bust It. The other night I was a bit drunk and it was my first hand at the table. I got 7s and the dealer also got a 7. I was betting $2.00 on all the bets and went from $90.00 to $280.00 I think it was, (I was drunk). If I remember the dealer also had a 5 or 6 card bust so that was also a huge payout. Always play the side bets as I found out just never buy insurance.

      Thanks
I use a mini martingale with a stop loss after doubling down twice unless two or three cycles of losses have passed already then if I note that and my bankroll allows it I go to a 3rd or 4th double down. Basic strategy. Always split AA always splits 88 always double 11 . After several wins instead of reverting to the main bets I reset it to the absolute table minimum so when i lose I try to lose the minimum. Play 1 hand at a time or 3 not 2. When playing 3 hands count how many rounds it's been since a 21+3 or a pp. Make note of it if it's been 5 rounds then add side bets at the minimum with room to increase as the hands go by. Don't play side bets when playing only one hand at a time.
Your main bets should never be more than 2% of your chipstack. Ideally they should never be more than 1%. If you have 10$ your starting bets should be 10c. If you had 100$ your starting bets should be no more than 1$ and really even if you have 100$ it's safer for your minimum bet to be 50c . Don't risk ruin. Play within your limits
