Ok the ovation I have does not have any screw visible but looks exactly like that. It is mounted on the frame with two tiny slots around the frame. Do I push into that slot or pry it out> Inside the plug from the pickup does not pulls freely from the preamp because the battery holder is blocking it.
Thank you so much for this extremely well done, helpful video! The tuner of my ovation OP4-CT stopped to work. With your help I could remove the amp module, and fix the problem: It turned out (this took me while to find out) that a solder bridge between two contacts of the push switch was broken - a drop of solder tin and the problem was gone.
Very useful video, thanks. Two minor points: what you constantly refer to as the input jack is, obviously, the output socket whilst the "baseplate" is actually the cover plate. Nevertheless, nice job.
Thanks Ross, yes it should be the output. Sometimes it’s referred as the input as well since this is where you’d “input” the cable. The correct term is output since that’s how the signal flows. I may have been trying to say “face plate” who knows what some of these items are really called as Ovation never produced a schematic. I’ve also heard the word “bezel” used. Thanks for watching.
@@mydustyguitar3855 Wow, what a fast reply. Questoin: I have an old Ovation Celebrity with exactly this pickup/pre-amp combination, after around 12 years of daily use including many gigs the output had a day or so when it became it erratic and then suddenly died. When I try and use the tuner it shows the arrows but no notes, this probably means the slimline pickup is dead, right? I hope that's "all" it is since the OP4CT isn't available in Germany. :)
@@Ross17033 hey Ross. That usually is the pickup in that situation. We have the CP100’s and we do ship to Germany. It may be best to check local first though as shipping is pretty high.
@@mydustyguitar3855 Hi, thanks. I actually have a pickup on the way from Thomann. I'm hoping it is the pickup as getting the preamp in Germany would be a problem.
Hello..great video first of all. Looks like there is a problem with my Preamp (guitar plays well for 20mins, and then the sound gets distorted, volume varies up down, loosing sound, scretching etc.). Since in Germany it's impossible to find replacement parts, also the Official services couldn't help, can you advice if there is a Preamp from another vendor that would just fit in? Maybe Shadow, Fishman smth like that.. Thank you!
I hae an old style american made elite and teh Electronics went out. THe hole is square not oblong. How can I cut the hole for the new op 4 electronics. also Some one told me to use fisher or L.A Biggs electronics Whwat is your suggestions.
Welp i guess ill ask here. I have a fairly new celebrity ovation, the tuner works, lights up, but zero output on my jack. Any idea what this could be? I took the input jack out and looked at it and it looked fine, but i will take it apart and make sure its all connected in case something disconnected some how. Or the preamp is just shot . Idk. Please help! Thank you!
hi thank you so much for sharing the expertise. i have the CE44 with the same preamp. however after 4 months purchase, the preamp doesn't work any more, when i plug into the box. Also the tuner doesn't work too. the screen always show the same symbol like the one at 4:42, it doesn't show any tunes even i play the string. So does it mean, the preamp is broken? actually the guitar is brand new, i only used for less than 10 times...
Great video and I just subscribed! A question though, I have the OP-4BT preamp and the LED is somehow malfunctioning. Instead of the A key showing, it's P that is showing like there is 1 led missing in the lower right part of the displayed key. any help would be much appreciated.
You could have a led that went bad, also sometimes the sticker window moves out of place and skews the view. You could take it apart and remove the led cover to expose the white led unit to see if it’s working correctly. If so, you’d just need to realign the led cover.
Hey, very useful. My guitar (Celebrity CS24-RR) has the tuner arrow problem, and plugging it to a mi we results in troubled sound or no sound at all. Which piezo pickup should I get as a replacement?
Most likely a dirt pot. First move the knob up and down in a quick motion many times, this sometimes cleans the debris. If not, get some electronics/potcleaner, spray in the slot and repeat the first part. Some Ovation models (OP PRO and PRO STUDIO) have issues and the pot or preamp may need to be replaced. Good luck.
Hey where can I get piezo element? Am from india actually my cp100 pickup elements getting some cracks pls help me out or else what can I use in replace of piezo element...
Their are a few that may work in place of the CP100. Ovation used the same pickup that most Takamine used. We do have them and we do ship to India. I cant remember the cost but I'd guess $20-30 USD for this size.
MERCI Mille fois. Enfin un tuto extrêmement bien fait et explicite. !!!!!!!!!!!!!! I love it !

Can you only change the pickup?
yes indeed. The pickup is usually the first part to fail.
