Regarding the age issue, I would like to point out that advancing age is not automatically accompanied by cognitive decline. Sure, EVERYONE forgets the odd thing as they grow older, but that doesn’t necessarily imply dementia. My father lived to be 93 years old, and he was as sharp as a tack right to his last breath. Yesterday I watched a RUclips video of Indigenous leader Oren Lyons, giving an hour-long talk at the age of 94, and he was brilliant. Age does NOT always bring intellectual decline. It’s ignorant and ridiculous to say that it does.

I like the word "distinguished" myself. Western culture is so fixated on age and youth, it's disgusting. We tend to treat our elders like they are useless and a burden on society, and we treat young people as they know it all. I hate it. My view is that older age doesn't reflect at all one's wisdom or character. One cannot say: "that person is 96, therefore they are wise and kind" or "that person is 67, therefore they are terrible at their job".
By the way, my mum has just turned 70, too. :) I don't feel that she's old at all. Dad, however, is 78 but suffers from Alzheimer's. He is in bad shape, but I would assume that if he hadn't dementia, I wouldn't see him as particularly old.
This type of misleading editing to create a false narrative in political campaign ads or by broadcasting media, is specifically banned in most European countries, in Japan, Canada, Australia, and in other representative democracies.
We have a quadruple standard. There are different rules for speech if it's political, commercial, religious, or none of those. I don't know much about the laws internationally. If a country really wanted to do what's best, they'd look at the effect of speech limits all over the world.
We need that here too. It's gonna get worse I fear with AI, but it is definitely a threat.

Yeah me too. It would be one thing if Republicans criticised Biden for his policies --- we could have a fruitful discussion there --- it's another thing when they attack him personally (with made up BS, no less). Whenever I try to bring up policy with MAGA, they peace out. I think it's because they know as well as I do that policywise, there is no comparison between Biden and Trump. Biden blows Trump out of the water in that regard, so they must made stuff up about Biden while ignoring everything going on with Trump.
What I can't understand with these MAGA people is their inability to acknowledge empirical data. Look at what Biden has accomplished! Regardless of how sleepy he might be, he have gotten things done. Sometimes I use the following analogy to make them see what I mean: Imagine you arriving at a field that according to your map is a lovely field and a recommended camping spot. When you arrive there, you see many warning signs of that whole area is a minefield. Would you rather trust your map and set up a tent in the middle of the field, or would you trust the warning signs right in front of you? Biden might "on paper" be a poor choice for President, but the empirical data paint another picture. I'd rather trust the empirical data,

I often close my eyes when listening to people as I don't want any visual distractions in order to avoid any misunderstanding. I do this especially if I'm listening to a speech in another language. So people closing their eyes doesn't necessary mean they're asleep. If they're moving their head, they're listening. If their heads are planted in their chests, they're asleep.

My Dad had slight dementia in the later years, but he still knew who I was and could "sort of" have a conversation. I have known other people in their 90s who were very mentally sharp. I am no doctor, but my general impression of President Biden shuffling around and talking is of an older person with dementia, and it is elder abuse to put him thru this.

Age related cognitive decline is apparent in Biden. Trumps gaffes are different. They are common early indicators of dementia like Alzheimers. That's to be expected though since his father suffered a bad case of it and it is hereditary.
The Washinton Post is on shaky turf the way management is forcing top writers to leave. In contrast, Joe Biden made us so proud in France with this demeaner and speeches, and his obvious rapport with Macron. He could have stayed in France for the G7 but planned a quick trip home for Hunter before the jury was out--just to support him as a Dad. What a classy man!
