that was an excellent video and brought back the feeling of times spent with my Dad, he talked and acted a lot like you with his mannerisms, and taught me the importance of slow, careful work, and regular visual inspections, if you see a leak or a torn boot or any damage, tend to it right away don't wait for it to turn into a problem. He also taught me the most important thing was to 'listen' to the car for variations from its usual sounds, one of the fastest ways to diagnose a problem. One of the better instructional videos I've encountered. Thanks!

That green oil filter cap wrench looks like it's made for a 1.8 liter Corolla instead of a Camry. It should still work on a 2.5 liter Camry but if I'm right then the tabs on the oil filter cap won't engage with the teeth on the cap wrench. The way your cap wrench keeps slipping off indicates that I'm probably correct. If they do engage then ignore what I'm saying. It's my mistake.

I know this video is old now, but I'm still amazed at how clean your engine bay is for a 2 year old car. You must spend a lot of time on it. My daughter now owns a 2013 Toyota Camry and the exhaust manifold cover is all rusted and things look pretty dirty. I'm looking into replacing the cover (for $100!) but I have no idea why Toyota uses such inferior metals on a lot of their parts which they must know will badly rust in a short period of time and look horrible.

Sal 007 It might be the torque converter. U760e transmission is known to have a faulty torque converter. My 2013 Camry had a shudder and hesitation between gears 2nd-3rd. Took it to Toyota dealer, they diagnosed it as having a faulty torque converter and they replaced converter and updated ecu all for free. Look up the ZE5 extension warranty for Camry’s with U760e transmission.

So I have this same car, just the LE version. I had a weird problem finding an air filer that fit in the box. Advanced Auto looked it up and gave me the filter, and it was just slightly to thick. This made it so that I could not close the filter housing back down and clip those two back on. The rear one would not at all go on at all. Then went to autozone and tried one of theirs and same thing, though they had another that was just a hair thinner and the guy who worked there put it in with me and that just fell in and worked great. No idea why we had such a hard time. I also did my cabin air filter and that worked great the first time. Anyone else have that issue?

    • @watermelonlalala
      @watermelonlalala 3 года назад

I went to O'Reilly's and asked for a cabin air filter. Cost too much but she didn't want to sell it to me anyway because she said I had a Camry SL according to the VIN lookup on the computer. It says SE on the back of the car. I went home and took the cabin filter out. It looked like a cheap piece of junk but it had a toyota part number on it. The photo of the filter on amazon looked nothing like the filter I have. Don't know why this is so hard.

Did I hear you say to take your torque wrench and snug up the oil filter drainplug? And then you put a ratchet on it and tightened it with a hammer? (At least it looked like a ratchet.)1. A ratchet is not a torque wrench. 2. You would never beat on a torque wrench with a hammer. 3. There is only suppose to be 10 ft lbs of torque on the oil filter drainplug. The oil filter cap/housing only calls for 18 ft lbs of torque.

Yeah I just went to the dealer today and they tried telling me not to replace yet. At first I thought they meant because I was 100 miles early to the sticker. But then the guy told me to do it every 10k. I told him I was doing it anyway. I could feel even at 5k the engine and trans were running rougher than they ought to be. After change the hard shift in cold weather is gone. Couldnt imagine having waited twice that. Funny thing is the sticker they slapped on the window after said to come back in another 5k.

Do the transmission fluid change. I did it recently on a 2011 Camry. It is not fun! Engineers are trying to make it too difficult. I used a bidirectional scanner to determine fluid temperature. Car rolls much easier and I can feel the transmissions ease. I could feel the gears and what felt like metal friction before. Improved my gas mileage to about 4 miles per gallon.

Judging by the way your oil filter wrench appears to not have a firm grip on the oil filter cap, it appears that you either are using the wrong wrench or your wrench isn't properly engaged to the oil filter cap. The teeth must be engaged to the tabs on the filter and it's a common problem to see that detail not being followed.
At position 5:36 & 10:27 of your video I can see that you have the wrong wrench. The teeth on your wrench don't even reach the tabs on the oil filter cap because the bottom part of your cap wrench isn't wide enough. The one you are using only fits the 1.8 and 1.3 liter Toyota made engines such as found in a Prius, Corolla, Matrix etc. All other Toyotas take a larger wrench that fits larger 4 cylinder vehicles as well as 6 & 8 cylinder vehicles. Sometimes the vendors that sell these wrenches don't even know. They assume that one wrench fits all four cylinder engines.
Motivx has it right. See both of their wrenches at www.amazon.com/Motivx-Tools-Filter-Wrench-Vehicles/dp/B078RHZP9M/ref=sr_1_11?dchild=1&keywords=motivx&qid=1588594835&sr=8-11

    www.amazon.com/Motivx-Tools-Toyota-Filter-Engines/dp/B00XTAGHU0/ref=psdc_15708821_t1_B078RHZP9M
Also, how much torque did you put on that drain bolt on the oil filter cap? It's only suppose to be 9 ft.lbs. and the oil filter cap itself should be only 18 ft.lbs.

It is a pain in the ass, but you don't have to do the plastic drain straw thing. Just take the whole filter housing off to simplify things. The worst part IMO is that filter housing adapter, they slip if you're not under it just right.

Yeah, I was pretty shocked to find out that my Camry, unlike most cars built after 1950, did not have a standard spin-on oil filter. I assume they use this design to discourage DIY oil changes. Its not a huge deal, but it does have an extra gasket which means one more opportunity to have an oil leak.

@@terrywho22 Its an environment thing. Replacing whole filter vs just replacing the filter media inside a reusable housing.

Good DIY = do it yourself video, but you left out the cabin filter replcement. People who smoke or have allergies should make it a point to replace the cabin filters every 30,000 miles.

Thank You for bring that up. Yes it is behind the glove box. Drop your glove box down. If you look to the left and a little up about 10 O'Clock you will see a long bar type of plastic, Just press in the two side clips and slide it out. Pull out the old filter. Install the new one. And clip the cover back on. . Put your glove box back in place. Have a great day

Toyota came up with a stupid new oil filter designed. Very stupid
